The Carpet Stop

Really quick service! The woman who ring me up was very nice and tried to understand my situation and even recommended I try asking my apartment for help. I ended up getting more carpet than I needed, which was fine cause it didn’t come smaller. Really happy with my experience! :)

If I was just rating the sales experience and the price for these guys, they’d get 4 stars (price was good, mostly friendly staff, but they would have gotten dinged a star because the sales guy would talk about stuff that isn’t relevant to the sale and would get sidetracked and forget what he was doing (but he was a nice guy!).
But they lose it all when it comes to scheduling the delivery. I scheduled a week (yes a whole 7 days (partly because they had to order the carpet) in advance, and was told that the installers take lunch from noon to 1pm and that I would be first on the list after lunch. I was also supposed to get a call the day before from the installer. Nope, no call, nothing. So the morning of the install I call the store to confirm. Dustin answered and checked the board and said yes, I was scheduled for right after lunch. He also said my salesperson would call around noon to confirm the time. Again, no call. I try to be patient, but now it’s after 2pm and I call and ask for Jim (owner/​manager). But he’ on a call so I leave a message. 25 minutes later the original salesperson returns my call. So I tell him what the problem is and he says, oh they’ll be there at 4. I replied, ‘oh so this is like the cable company?’. So what happened to «I’m first right after lunch»?
So the salesperson says he’ll see what he can do, and calls back ten minutes later and says they are on their way. Finally about 3:30 one guy shows up and gets it done and I’m happy with the install.
The next day I get a call from Jim who leaves a nice, long voicemail. He’s apologizing profusely and tells me that they very much value their customers and have been serving the Austin community for 19 years. Other than my experience, they have very good reviews (one of the reasons I went with them), and he seems really disheartened and says they dropped the ball and promised to communicate better in the future. I believe him so I’m adjusting my rating up to «A-​ok». I do appreciate the followup from the owner, but that can’t take away my bad experience with the scheduling/​lack of communication.

This place has a great price on their «in stock» stuff. 2 different shades of beige with touches of brown mixed in and a standard 8lb pad. Also the install price was quite good (46 cents a sq foot if I remember correctly). However, the sales people made me a little uncomfortable with their personal questions.

Third house, third time buying carpet from these folks. Each time they have not only been exceptionally helpful (answering questions, discussing the difference between carpet types and warranties, showing different selections), but have also been incredibly nice, friendly, low-​pressure, and accommodating. I know exactly how my experience will be when I come in here, which eliminates the stress that normally comes with this kind of purchase. Moreover, I first started shopping here over 4 years ago, and still see the same faces which makes me very comfortable. Actually, during my most recent shopping experience, the gentleman (Ryan) who helped me actually remembered my name from 2 years before. In a highly competitive industry with lots and lots of competition, this place is absolutely worth checking out. And their pricing is VERY competitive, especially for the (lots and lots) of carpet they carry in-​stock. Worth a 5-​star review for sure.

One of the truest statements in the human language, IMHO, is the statement «Beggar’s can’t be choosers!» How true that is. Imagine if you put a quarter in a bum’s coffee cup and he gave it back to you and said «Dimes only please!» I’ll tell you what. You’d probably be looking at a pretty skinny bum.
In my world, the world of wireless telephone, we certainly can’t be choosers. The competition is merciless and the stakes are high so we treat literally EVERY single customer like they are a piece of gold when at best they are usually fool’s gold or just a turd. I hope none of them are reading this LOL.
So I really need to commend the outstanding people of The Carpet Stop for making service such a high priority. I recently threw a party at my loft which included a «Build Your Own“sundae bar, which was a hit with my guests and a miss with my beloved carpet. LOL. Time for some new carpet.
The people here were just exceptional. It took less than 96 hours from the time I entered their showroom to the moment I was watching them rolling out the glue and nailing my new carpet in place. The selection of texture and color available is exquisite, premium and high end. I am just extremely pleased with how clean, modern and fresh my living space has become.
The next time I offer someone a sangria at my place, it’s definitely being served in a sippy cup. LOL.

Great Products and Great Service
Have had Matt York help us a couple times — carpet for a rental property and Hardwood Flooring at home. Had looked all over for the right flooring and struck gold. Matt had a special shipment on sale that was perfect choice for us — 2 years later we still marvel our beautiful and durable flooring.

Selection, price, experience… Carpet Stop has it all. I live in Lakeway and the 35 minute drive was worth it for the money I saved. They couldn’t have been more professional or courteous, including follow-​up phone calls to make sure the installation came off perfectly. (It did.) I was impressed with the level of service and consideration I got from everyone on the team.

The first time (5 years ago) I needed to buy carpet for a rental property, I compared prices and product at 6 or 7 stores in Austin before deciding on Carpet Stop. I was very pleased with their great service, prices, and carpet selection.
I needed carpet again this year and saved myself the exhaustion of shopping around; I went right to CS. James, the nice man who assisted before, was there to greet me! He gave me a great discount on a couple options, was able to go with me that day to take measurements, and since has gone above and beyond in every way possible to make sure the price was as low as possible and the install as easy as possible.
Carpet Stop (and James) earned my highest recommendation. The carpet looks beautiful, was installed within days of my original visit, and I am confident that the price wouldn’t have been beat at any other shop. Go here first!

Carpet Stop has good product at a fair price. James and the team are knowledgeable & cheerful. Over the years, I’ve bought full coverage to remnants for a single room. They’ll measure & consult for free, match what you have, arrange delivery & installation with trusted contractors or let you carry out. This is the first place I go for all flooring.

Wonderful customer service. Good (quality and variety) products and a wide range for any budget. What the hell do I know about flooring? I had a lot of help picking out carpet and tile that looks GREAT and at a price that I felt I was not being robbed. I mean. there are a TON of carpet places out there, and on this particular job, I could have been taken for a ride. This didnt happen here. They are honest. I’d recommend Carpet Stop, but not their install team. Carept installers had to revisit the house and re-​adhere several spots that were not secured properly. Tile installer had to revisit the house and regrout a few tile spots. And he walked on my brand new carpet without putting a runner down. But the customer service was so good, I still give 4 stars. And I’m pleased with my experience.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! Jim (the owner), knows his stuff and completely cares about his customers! We screwed up and forgot to tell our installer about an addition — Jim went out of his way to find additional carpet in the same dye lot. How awesome are they? Not to mention how well they know their stuff and are super responsive. You can’t do better! Just go with it!

They gave a great price, installed quickly and did a great job! Ryan was very nice and informative.

I had a pretty big job. We ripped out old tile, put in new tile on the first floor, put hand-​scraped wood flooring in my office, vinyl plank in our craft room, and super soft carpet upstairs. We probably did about 2500 square feet. The overall job took a full six days.
I quoted a few places for the job. I had formal quotes from Carpet Stop, CRT Flooring, Independent Contractors, Floor and Décor, Lowe’s, and Home Depot. I was probably at 15 flooring places in all!
A lot of the places had specials going (cash back, coupons, rebates, free gifts, etc), but Jim at Carpet Stop gave me a flat overall price. Jim’s flat overall price factored in all of the «specials», and he actually came in lower than the other bids. However, it was really the customer service that sold us. The other flooring places took forever to get back to us if we had questions. However, Jim either always answered the phone or got back to us right away. He was able to put up with us every time we changed our minds about something!
We wound up upgrading our grout, and Jim gave us the grout upgrade at cost! When they were installing the grout, it turns out I needed more than the manufacturer recommended, but Jim covered that cost without any problem.
The install guys were great. Carpet was installed per specification, tile guys were very detailed oriented, and they all did everything that I asked without complaining at all. Jim also stopped by a couple times to check on the install and answer any questions we had.
After the install was completed, they cleaned everything up and my home was beautiful. A week after install, Jim even called up to check on everything.
I wholeheartedly recommend this place.

We chose Carpet Stop based on the Unilocal reviews. Good decision. We needed all-​new carpet in our home’s bedrooms plus some outdoor carpeting on the patio. We started at Home Depot, which had great prices and cheap installation but offered very little help understanding the differences in carpet fiber types, weights, and pad choices. Their $ 50 basic installation also got expensive for any extras like moving furniture. Carpet Stop was competitively priced with HD, and our salesperson Ryan helped us make a more informed decision regarding what carpet and pad to go with. He also booked their preferred local installers to put it all in. The installation crew was fast and did an amazing, professional job. They even moved our furniture out and back for very little extra. Support a local business and go with these guys!

See those four stars up there folks? Those are for CUSTOMER SERVICE, which I received in abundance over the phone from The Carpet Stop today, even though I am not (yet) officially their customer. Here’s how it went down:
Me: I have a an unusual question.
Carpet Stop Man: I definitely have an answer for you.
Me: I am looking for a vinyl tile, which I will describe as a «novelty tile» that looks like grass. I saw them at Lowe’s a long time ago and they looked like leaves, or a swimming pool, or grass. But I can’t find them anymore …
Carpet Stop: (disclaimer: this is paraphrased) this is not something I’ve ever seen before, but it doesn’t mean that it’s not available. Let me give you approximately 5 different ideas for how you can find this product that sounds strange and unusual (and maybe non-​existent).
It went on like this for a good 5 – 7 minutes. It was an embarrassment of information and advice riches, and I LOVED it.

Can I just tell you why I loved and appreciated this exchange?
1. they don’t sell the product but he was willing to help
2. he give me lots of great suggestions for ways to locate this product (or something similar)
3. he expertly recognizes that by sharing his knowledge I could become his customer in the future … quite correct sir. I might even go on Unilocal and tell everyone how helpful you were!
I imagine that throughout this exchange Carpet Stop Man was probably wondering *why* anyone wants tile that looks like grass, but he respectfully does not ask extra questions. I mean, who wants their indoor floor to look like the outdoors? Umm, me … maybe he’s heard it all by now …

I was very hesitant about using the Carpet Stop based on the mixed reviews. I found myself in a pickle without much of a choice, so on my realtor’s word I called them up.
I didn’t have much of a choice because it was a Friday and I needed the carpet by the following Tuesday. Texas Flooring completely blew off our appointment on Thursday. They never even bothered to return my messages or apologize for no-​showing. Doug from AAA Carpet never returned out call requesting a quote after he told us he would check what he had in stock. The people at Florh seem topnotch, but have no inventory for my rush job.
Anyways, this left us with The Carpet Stop who said they were able to install new carpet on Tuesday. My hubby went to the warehouse and picked out our carpet. He worked with James, who was very professional and never tried to up-​sale.
They just finished the install and did an excellent job. I am very happy. The workmen cleaned up after themselves, were very efficient, and were very courteous. I would absolutely use them again. The carpet looks great!!!

The Carpet Stop has all sorts of flooring, everything… carpet, tile, wood, laminate… I have worked with Jim on one home improvement project after another and couldn’t be happier!
Jim knows his products extremely well and really helps you make the right decision by explaining the pros and cons of each. Over the years I’ve had carpet installed, tile flooring, laminate flooring and a tile back splash. All of them look great!
I’ve already recommended Jim and The Carpet Stop to several of my friends and neighbors and all of our houses look wonderful. I’ve also had Jim install flooring at my business with the same great results.
Very fair pricing, extremely knowledgeable about their products and fine installation work… The Carpet Stop will always be the flooring store that I recommend.

Uprooting to a new home in a new area is unsettling if not traumatic. Adding an unattended major reflooring job to the mix is down right frightening!
So When we finally arrived to find the result looking spectacular, we were elated. We’d like to thank Brian for his professional attention to every detail, and Jose Cruz for his craftsmanship, making this part of our transition a delightful surprise. We’re pleased to recommend Carpet Stop to anyone.
