Please note that in addition to our weekday hours, we are open the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. We provide high-​quality, data-​driven veterinary care of cats, dogs, and other small companion animals. We emphasize preventive care, good nutrition and weight management, dental care, and pain management for your pets. We offer state of the art digital dental and full body radiographs (x-​rays).

Vaccine programs and repellent products are customized for the exposure your individual pet has to diseases and parasites.

History

Established in 2013.

After working as a staff veterinarian since 1990 and operating two housecall practices (Whiskers on Wheels and Lone Star Veterinary Housecalls), Dr. Cole opened The Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch in August, 2013.

At The Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch, we believe great communication between you and your veterinarian is essential for your pet to receive the best possible care. Dr. Tamera Cole has been in practice since 1990, earning the trust and respect of clients and colleagues. Her goal is to give high-​quality care with convenience, confidence, and compassion.

Dr. Cole graduated Magna Cum Laude from Smith College with a B.A. in Chemistry. She received the DuPont Research Award, the Eastern Analytical Chemical Society Award, the Hause-​Scheffer Award for Research, and the American Chemical Society Prize. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and to Sigma Xi National Research Honor Society.

Dr. Cole earned her D.V.M. from Tufts University, and received the Joseph F. Ford Fellowship Award for Veterinary Research. She was Vice-​President of the Student Chapter of the AVMA.

Dr. Cole is certified in both Applied and Advanced Clinical Behavioral Medicine.

I am really excited to discover The Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch! The staff is very personable and professional. The office is new and very clean. They got my dogs in quickly and took great care of all of us. Highly recommend!

I’m honestly on the fence about this animal hospital. I love that it is close to my house and the vet and staff were great with my dog. They really care about animals and you can tell by their interactions. The issue I have is a lack of organization or communication on their part. On the phone they were asking me questions like scheduling a heart worm test for my dog when he just had one done by them recently. I had given them all of the immunization records for my dog from a previous vet but yet until I asked about it they didn’t seem to realize I had. Not sure how their computer system works but I would assume those things would show up in the animals chart. The final issue I had was after my dog had his updated vaccine visit. I get home and a few days later realize they didn’t give him his bordetella shot which I had scheduled. I only realized it when the dog boarding/​training facility I was trying to place him in alerted me. I saw three different syringes during my dogs visit and had confirmed the shots with the receptionist. I guess I shouldn’t have assumed it was done properly and double checked. The weird thing is they could clearly see that all the vaccines that were scheduled were expired or about to expire. I’m not quite sure how it got missed. I’m bummed I’m now going to have to find time to take my dog back again to get the bordetella vaccine before I can take him to the training facility.

I’ve taken my cats to this animal hospital for a couple years and always had good experiences. The staff is responsive and supportive. Dr. Cole is very personable and clearly cares about animals. I’m happy to have a good vet close to home.

Love this vet! I’ve taken my dog here a couple of times now. Most recently, he got in trouble with a cactus. I called the vet, which was closing in 15 minutes, and they told me to come over, I got there just before closing and they spent an hour getting the needles out of my pup! They could have easily told me to hit the 24 hour emergency vet instead, but they didn’t — and they went home an hour late on a Friday afternoon to help us.
I’m not saying expect them to stay open late — but this is just an example of what a wonderful, neighborly, and good team of doctors this is! Priced fairly, clean and new facility, doctors that are dog people and love my pet.

I came to Dr. Cole for a second opinion, after being told by a nearby vet our yr old cat had leukemia and putting him down was the next step. I am forever grateful to have reached out to Dr. Cole as not only did she find it was a mis diagnosis she has guided us through a different diagnosis treatment plan and has spent extensive time consulting with specialists regarding his rare condition. Our kitty is happy and recovering better than expected. She and her staff are wonderful and thorough. If you want quality and loving care from a passionate vet, look no further. She is conservative with ordering tests and more than reasonable with her fees. We will be bringing all of our pets to her!

In our experience, Dr. Cole and her staff are nothing short of amazing. She has made a significant impact, not only in the lives of our puppies, but on ours as well.
The breeder we choose really pulled the wool over our eyes when it came to her breeding practices and the current state of the dogs we were purchasing. As a result they have had a lot of health issues arise in their first year that needed attention — things we did not expect. Dr. Cole has been a rock for us as we nursed them back to health.
When we first found out about all of this, she helped keep us calm and on course; she was always available for us to visit and she even took extra time when we had questions while examining the dogs. She has even gone so far as to take personal time after hours time to reach out to us, checking on the dogs after hours, sending emails on research she is doing about them. Whether it is via email, text or during a visit, she is great at explaining all of our options when it comes to the care of our puppies. I find her to be patient, caring, informative, and the dogs absolutely LOVE her.
While it has been a long road due to the nature of the issues, some of which will never go away, they have reached a point where the issues that can be solved have been solved, and we are well prepared to deal with everything else moving forward. I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Cole and her wonderful staff at the Animal Hospital in Steiner Ranch.

Our 15-​year-​old cat, Asha, finally outlived her kidneys. Dr. Cole showed us how to give subcutaneous fluids so that we could have one more week at home with our beautiful girl. After one week, we suspected that we might not be bringing Asha home from her checkup, and we were right. But as sad and difficult as it was to say goodbye, we were amazed at how gentle and loving Dr. Cole was with Asha, and how caring and compassionate she was with us. Although none of us want this day to come, it does, and too soon. When we do decide to get another cat (or two!), there is no question about who will provide their veterinary care. We wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Cole and the staff of the Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch.

After 14 years of driving to Lakeline, I decided to try something new. Dr Cole and her staff are wonderful! Lots of time spent with me and the dogs, explaining everything and giving the dogs a thorough exam. You know how people rejoice when they find a physician who pays attention to the patient? That’s it here! Dr Cole is the physician you want for your four-​legged family.

I have been using the Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch since they opened during the summer of 2013. I have two dogs, one which is a senior and needs lots of veterinary care. I have found this practice to be the best I’ve used in the northwest Austin /​Lakeway area. The clinic is brand new, spotless, and has state-​of-​the-​art diagnostic equipment. Dr. Cole is a top notch doctor who has been practicing veterinary medicine for 20+ years. She is knowledgeable and thorough as well as kind and gentle with my girls. The staff is friendly, accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. Prices are reasonable compared to other vets in the area. Now that I’ve found this vet, I will never go anywhere else.

Although it was «only» a deep teeth cleaning, I’m a nervous mom. However, so far, so good! I have a service dog who I am VERY picky about who touches him and what their procedures involved. One reason I picked this doctor is because she does work with service dogs specifically in addition to the rest of her experience.
When Aslan started crying when he came out of anesthesia, the Dr’s husband sat with him to keep him company and allay his fears. Its little things like that, that make a HUGE difference in where I keep my business.
Although Aslan is sitting next to me high as a kite and reasonably exhausted, he has not been hit as hard from the anesthesia as he has from other vets. The staff have been wonderful, friendly, and even let Aslan sit at the front desk for a short while to have some company after his surgery before I picked him up. The facility i s new and brand spanking clean!
The prices for his cleaning were not cheap, but they weren’t outrageous like they are just a few miles down the road in Lakeway. I like Dr Terrel well enough, but this new Dr seems thorough, respects Aslan’s service work, and is only a brief walk or bike ride away from my home. Barring any unexpected unpleasantness, this is where I’ll stay!
I’ll post updates with each visit, but hopefully my boy won’t need to go here beyond his checkups!
