I’ve been to Sun Auto several times in the last year and the customer service is very inconsistent. We are a three car family and I’d like to continue to use them. I just left after being told «there is no way I can fit you in». I wasn’t asked to come back, just turned away. The first time I went there they went out of their way to be nice to me. I’ll give them one more shot when I need service, I hope the person manning the front desk has a better attitude next time.

Friendly Staff! Only got my inspection sticker taken care of here but I was impressed with them. They got be in and out quite quickly, even though it was almost the first of the month and towards the end of the day! Def recommend them!

Great service! My son and I took his car in with a steering problem. It had come to the point that it was dangerous to drive. They gave an estimate with options. This is something I appreciate. I could choose to replace the tie rods and steering components, or I could include the rack and pinion (which was leaking fluid). I decided to fix everything in question. At the time, I was told that the control arm may need to be replaced in the future. After the repairs were made, I received a call. It appeared that all the repairs were necessary, but there was one problem. The car still moved to the right while accelerating. After a reasonable explanation, I was told that they were willing to work with me on price in order to make it right. For about $ 80 more, they would replace a control arm (this is a great deal). I said yes. When I went to pick up the car, I found out that they had replaced both control arms. Total over estimate: about $ 140 over the original $ 1935. In my opinion, $ 1935 was extremely reasonable. The car maneuvers like new. This is the best experience I’ve had with a mechanic in Austin. Honest, precise, and on time. I will be back again!

I started going to Sun Auto for my oil changes when I first moved to Austin because they were across the street from my apartment complex. Since then I’ve moved three times, and I still go here to get my oil changed, even though there are other places right around the corner. Why? You don’t need to make an appointment with these guys, they get you in and out quickly, they call you when your vehicle is ready, and they always have coupons on their website. Plus they don’t try to talk you into umpteen other unnecessary services. They’ve consistently provided the best value and customer service. I won’t take my car anywhere else!

Very disappointed their New Customer coupon — it does not state all the exceptions and found out as we are paying that it is not available for inspections; then they take about 10 minutes to check us out even though no one was in the waiting area. The person at the counter looks at us and then puts our invoice to the side and then waits until a customer walks into the office to assist her instead. Their customer service needs work! Will not come back, very disappointed in their customer service skills!

Another satisfied customer! I have so many horror stories about mechanics, that I had to actually stop and give these guys a great review.
I recently took an old 2001 Dodge Ram in that was having issues with the AC and heater. I have been driving it around like this for over a year because I knew it was going to be insanely expensive to pull the dashboard out and fix this problem.
I finally had enough cash so I decided to take it in to be looked at. I dropped it off on Sunday night (they were closed) and I got a call the very next day before noon from Colton the service advisor on what was wrong. He complimented me several times on what great shape my truck was in and told me about the issue. I had previously said to myself if it were over $ 2000 I was going to just get rid of the truck. Before I even told Colton that part he already told me they were going to discount the price to right at $ 2000! The original total was going to be over $ 2200 I believe. When I told him about my price limit he laughed and promised that it would not be over that amount.
They had my truck a few days (which was totally fine because I didn’t need it) During the time he had my truck, I got updates every day on what exactly they were doing and what they had to purchase. I was never surprised about any aspect of the bill.
When I went to pick it up, Colton took me back and showed me the old parts they had to remove. They actually kept them, which I thought was pretty honest of a shop! He showed me where the old parts failed and the pieces that had to be replaced!
As he was explaining everything he said they actually swapped out a few parts from the old kit because they were better quality and would hold up better in the long run… Most places would have just done the easiest and fastest route and installed the new pieces without doing this. He told me rather than purchase all the parts from Dodge (which are really expensive) he actually shopped around for better deals. He saved me even more money outside of his discount.
He introduced me to the gentleman working on my truck, his name was Nacho. I really great guy, who I could tell took a lot of pride in his work and actually came over to point out a few things on improving my repair so I wouldn’t have to do it again for a long time.
Then Colton took me out to my truck and showed me some of the areas they were working on and how they even cleaned up a rust spot in my carpet! He thanked me for my business and told me several times about a one year warranty on everything they did. I forgot to mention he even told me about some coupons on how I could save regular maintenance services in the future.
You can tell these guys got it right at Sun Auto hiring these two guys. Its sad to say that most places would try and get you in and out as fast as possible so they could move on to the next customer. They hardly ever explain why they are replacing certain parts, and almost always hit you with a higher bill than when you first started. This was not the case at Sun Auto! These guys really went out of their way for me, and I wish I could do more than write a review.
If you truly value customer service and honesty, these guys are for you. I will never take my car anywhere else.
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram Sport with 150+K miles on it. I had to have an entire new heater core and evaporator core, new brake pads, brake flush, and air door bushing, Oh and I got an inspection. My entire bill was $ 2018.50. Other shops quoted me $ 2500 for just the AC/​Heater work.
Side story; I also have a 2012 Saab 94*x I took there before. As you know Saab went out of business in 2012 and they only produced 340 of my exact car. Getting parts has been a nightmare. These guys found what I needed in one day. Even the local Saab repair service center couldn’t do that.
i wish these guys the best! It’s great to have peace of mind the next time something major happens, that I know I can take my vehicle to a place I trust and won’t have to shop around to several different shops to get quotes.

Love this place I went in to find out why my check engine light was on and they did not try to suggest more work than was necessary. When they told me how long of a wait I had they were pretty close they know their workers and how long they will take for each thing. Will definitely be going back for all my auto needs

Jordan was a tremendous help, and Sonny, who drove me to pick up an alternate mode of transportation, was very pleasant, and gave me some advice on maintaining my car. I’ll definitely recommend them, and will be back for my next service visit! Thanks, guys!

SUMMARY:
Originally went in for the $ 395.00 special from an advertisement sent in the mail. Vehicle was bought used in April. Maintenance was due. Decided to get everything done. Power steering pump needed replacement.

Service turned out to be a GOOD experience, despite extra costs. I personally chose to have more work done because I have good enough credit to pay within 12 months, no interest, and the vehicle needed maintenance.
Sun Auto is a straight-​forward place in my opinion. Colton and Adrian have both served in the military and know what it takes to get the job done in an accurate and efficient manner. They take pride in having the technical knowledge in identifying issues with your vehicle. Fact is, most auto shops WILL suggest services for your vehicle… services you may not have anticipated going in. They are NOT trying to push sales on you. They get enough business as it is. It’s you, the consumer, that needs to be aware of your vehicle’s maintenance schedule. Things add up when you don’t take care of your vehicle. Keeping track and routine maintenance ensure longevity of your vehicle and less costs for repairs in the long-​term.
Overall, I am fully satisfied with my experience. Colton did an excellent job calling me a few days later to follow up with how my vehicle ran. This is a good example of excellent customer service. Adrian excels as manager for this location, and he has personally provided transportation to my residence while my vehicle was being worked on. This kind of work ethic shows that Sun Auto has the competitive edge in auto maintenance and repair. I would most definitely recommend this location to my friends and others seeking a good auto shop, and I have decided to make them my auto shop of choice for future maintenance.

I’m not a mechanic first off but I had my first and last experience with Sun Auto last week.
I took my car in to get diagnosed for an issue and my car sat unattended for an hour. 20 mins after it was taken in I was told one problem that the mechanic felt needed immediate attention.
I obviously want any issues taken care of; the problem here is that they wouldn’t perform the rest of the diagnoses without performing a $ 500 process. Then the mechanic said «IF, there isn’t other problems you’ll be fine but after we do the first part then we might find other issues». To a normal person this just sounded like my tab was going to get large very quickly. I went and had the car inspected by someone else and to my surprise (sarcasm) the issue Sun Auto mentioned wasn’t even an issue. So this made a very negative impact on me.

Great service, but most of all I felt they were being honest. They fixed an issue that could have turned into a big problem (admittedly because I was way late in changing oil). And for a great price. Ill be comfortable going back

We brought with us a somewhat difficult customer, and these folks were great. The work was prompt and the price was fair. Too bad they are south and I live north!

What a professional establishment… Not only were they curious and responsive to my needs they did it with a smile and confidence. Was in and out in no time and the price was competitive to others, so for this type of top notch service they are definitely the place to service your vehicle. Also while you wait there are plenty of place to walk to if your service might require a little longer than mine did.

I recently purchased a new-​to-​me vehicle, and when the reminder for my oil change came on, I needed to find a shop that could be my «go-​to» spot for oil changes and minor maintenance.
When I walked into Sun Auto, the staff at the front desk was friendly toward me as well as to others coming in. The lobby is roomy and includes eight chairs, free coffee, a Coke machine, water fountains, and a table stacked with magazines. They also have FREE WIFI which is a must for me — I usually have to do this kind of thing during work hours and love that I can stay productive while I wait.
The price is less than what I am used to paying, and they included a free tire-​rotation with the oil change. I love the fast and professional service! I’ve found my go-​to shop and would recommend Sun Auto to anyone in South Austin.

I came for my appointment a bit late and it was my own dang fault. I have experienced in the past that this turns into an opportunity for small businesses to beat you up but not here at SUN AUTO. I received a warm and friendly welcome.
Waiting in the lobby I was able to see and hear them with their customers. They are car repair consultants and are not there to push or pressure anyone into expensive services. TRUST is hard to earn and I for one can testify that they mean what they say and do what they tell you they will do.
Damond the manager is also up front to oversee the operations and has tons of time and experience in his field.
At SUN AUTO they keep you rolling down the road.

It is rare to be able to rant and rave about an auto establishment but wow, I am impressed. This is a review that is months over due but I had to give this location their due credit. I choose this location due to their location from a seminar that I was attending for a few days.
I took my son’s Volkswagen SUV in for some work after hearing some funky noises in the front end. They gave me a fair and honest quote to replace a few parts. The work was done in a the time frame they promised, the pricing was extremely competitive & the best part is, our SUV is fixed and nearly 8 months to the date and everything is working as good as new. Thanks you guys, hopefully we don’t have any more car issues but if we do, it will be worth the drive to know our vehicle will be fixed right the first time!

I am very pleased with the customer service I received at Sun Auto on Slaughter. I went in for an oil change on my son’s car and I was also concerned with the check engine light on dashboard. Adrian, the service advisor was very thorough when it came to explaining what additional repairs the car needed due to the code from the light. He quoted me the price for the work, i negotiated with him and he was able to lower the price. I brought the car in the next work day and they went out of their way to finish the work as promised. My son’s car runs great, engine light is off and it also passed inspection. I am very impressed.
i will recommend Adrian and this shop to all my friends and family.

Good service overall. Have an older Chevy truck that was struggling to pass inspection. They showed me the issues with brakes and had me in and out at a decent price for the work that was needed. The WiFi and coffee helped to. I was able to work from their location pretty easily.
