My great grandparents would take me to Luby’s when I was a 5 yr old. I am now 51. I would guess I eat there 50 times a year. I have never had a bad meal, that I can remember. Thru the years my palette has changed, so I have tried many of the entrees. My favorites for the last 20 years are Enchiladas, liver and onions, and my favorite side: Mac n cheese. I am lucky now that there is a Luby’s 2 miles from my house;(Slaughter/S 1st). When my family goes or I call in an order to go, «Will» the manager, and his team do a fantastic job with food preparation and service. There is probably 10 Mexican restaurants within 3 miles of my house to get cheese enchiladas… truly Luby’s in my opinion are the best. I have on my calendar every Thursday to get lunch or dinner enchiladas because I so look forward to the meal.(Unfortunately only on Thursday for enchiladas). But Will has made them for me with a «heads up» on a different weekday… and that is personal service! With all the other fantastic menu items available, most anybody will find a favorite entrée. When dining in, the wait staff is courteous and will do anything you request. I always leave a large tip because the wait staff is very deserving, even though it is cafeteria style restaurant. You won’t be disappointed if you eat at this location or any other Luby’s!

Good atmosphere, the food is decent the chicken fried steak could be a little better. The service is great. Decent size portions for prices. The best lubys ive been to so far. Staff is exceptionally helpful and polite

I’ve been to Luby’s in Houston, but this one feels like a legit restaurant more than a cafeteria. Been here twice now and both times have exceeded my expectations. I got a salad, desert, entrée, two sides and a friend k for $ 18(see pic). So much food, but I couldn’t resist the green chili chicken soup. Sooo good. Chicken fried chicken cause I’m keeping it all southern on this trip. I lose all my LA flavor here, lol

Ordered ala carte Thanksgiving dinner for 12 at a cost of over $ 200. We ordered 7 pounds of the roasted sliced turkey breast. What we got was wet, pressed, poor grade lunchmeat. Tried to call Lubys and no one is answering. Our extended family is here. This is not what was advertised and the Lubys marketing team should rethink the pics in their online advertising. I am a long time Lubys” fan but this iwas very disappointing. Update: went by the Lubys location and the manager Rafael is working to remedy our dissatisfaction. Thank you Rafael.

This is by far THEBEST Luby’s location there is, so far, in Texas. This location does not feel like the other Luby’s in town(or even in San Antonio where it originated) because of it’s ambiance, the selection and amount of food choices for you to eat, and because of it’s waitstaff and serving staff. There is a great feeling when you walk in and are greeted with a smile where you can get home cooked hot meals on the cheap! I hate to say it(only because I always feel like I am making a marketing pitch but trust me, I am not!) you should sign up for the e-newsletter. Luby’s is SUPER generous with sending their e-newsletter subscribers at least 2 – 3 coupons a week!!! Most of them are BOGO(buy one get one) half off or free! Seriously — sign up!!! You will have to print the coupon as they will not take you showing the coupon on your phone at this location. The manager is super strict about this so be sure to print it out! Waitstaff and general staff are amazing, sweet, and will explain to you the types of dishes and/or entrees that are out and available if you ask. They are attentive as you get through your meal with asking you if you need anything else and filling your drinks. Advice — bring some CA$H with you for a tip for your waiter or waitress. There is no room on your printed receipt to write in a tip so you need to bring some singles!

I had lunch today at the new Luby’s on Slaughter in South Austin and it was great. The serving line was picture perfect and every item had that«take me» look. My meal was well prepared, hot, and tasted great. This Luby’s is my father’s cafeteria and so much more. It had been awhile since I’ve been to Luby’s, so went classic cafeteria and had a fresh beet salad along with a LuAnn plate of tender beef liver that was perfectly paneed with a light paprika flour and was served grilled onions. I chose steamed fried cabbage and their new jalapeño macaroni & cheese as my two sides and the Mexican cornbread. I’ve eaten at Piccadilly since the 1960’s as a child and Luby’s after moving to Texas in the 1990’s, and this was a great meal to measure all others by. I love the dining room and interior décor that pays homage to the 60s that was the heyday for cafeterias, combined with a contemporary modern look that adds a certain edginess. The Dining Room service was attentive as cafeteria should should be, but not overbearing or inattentive by any means. I guess just right is the way to describe the service. Obviously managed well with great attention to detail for food quality, presentation, and sanitation, I’ll be back with my family often to enjoy more memorable meals reminiscent of what cafeteria dining is when done right. I live in Georgetown, where Luby’s closed a location a few years ago, but this location is certainly worth the hour drive south.

Best Luby’s I’ve ever been to. All the food was fresh and well presented. New building is modern and clean. Blows the others out of the water!

I like many people and Texas grew up eating at lubys cafeteria every so often. The only reason I’m giving this place 3 stars is cuz the manager seemed like he generally cared the cashier seems like she genuinely cared and the food was not bad, but the service or let me rephrase this lack of service was very upsetting and disappointing. I showed up last night with my partner 1 hour before they closed we sat at a booth, there was obviously servers walking around a young black lady who had multiple tables and was on top of her game checking on our table and an older Hispanic lady(our server) who seemed to not have any tables except for one who she stood by and had a 15 minute conversation with, she did not offer to refill our drinks did not come introduce herself she saw we were there and did not even it acknowledge us, now I put the blame for the bad service on her, but that other server who was on top of her game working her tables did see me and my partner multiple times did see that the other server had not checked on us and could have checked on us or notified her manager and at least offered to refill our drinks. After all this I was very disappointed with the service and I went and I left a cashier know of the problem she apologised for it and shortly after I sat myself back down she went and told the server or at least mention something to the server. The reason I think this because they had a conversation I saw the server look at me and the server I’m talking about is the older Hispanic lady and just wave her hand and brush it off like she didn’t care. I would hope someone at lubys cafeteria reads this and not just wrote that lady up they should just fire her cuz she is a horrible server. If you want luby’s don’t be afraid to come here this is not usually how they are but do avoid the Oltorf location the food there is horrible and service there is really horrible. This place is better.

I’ve always driven by them and had never eaten in one until they opened the new one on Slaughter Lane. We decided to give it a shot one night and I was really pleased! I got the special(one meat and two sides) and asked for the grilled chicken and the squash as both my sides. The squash was so perfect! Super fresh and tasted wonderful! The grilled chicken was also tasty(I think it was blackened?) and a nice size portion. The meal was very reasonable and we will definitely be going back!

i am normally not a fan of chain restaurants, but feel i have to make an exception here. i have been here 4 times now, mostly out of convenience to my work. i am now convinced that the«rebirth» of luby’s may have been a good thing. each time i have been, the food has been very good, service was fast and staff were both helpful and friendly. finally, they always have clean restrooms. i am a little freaky about restaurants that have dirty bathrooms, seems hard for me to imagine the same establishment with a dirty bathroom but a clean kitchen. on my most recent visit the bus \ waiter actually remembered me from over a month ago and greeted me with a ‘welcome back’ nothing better than alert employees. lastly, as i was moving through line, a manager reached over and pulled chicken fried steak that had batter falling off, off of the platter and threw it away. so far i am a fan!

Clearly displayed on a sign above serving line says, «Manager’s special starts $ 6.99» When I asked for it I was told that the MGR special that day was $ 10.I said I wanted to know what the $ 6.99 special was. AGAIN I was told that was the only mgr special. I find this to be FALSE advertising. and the sign should be removed. Needless to say I did NOT fall for their«trick» and promptly left without ordering.

Bring your ear plugs! This place is loud! A Lu Ann and Tea is now very overpriced for the portion size. This location appears to be an experiment gone horribly wrong…

I have kinda become a regular here. As a vegetarian I am disappointed that a lot of their veggie options are made with meat, BUT they have a delicious selection of veggies which is becoming uncommon these days in restaurants. They have the best collard and mustard greens I have ever tasted and I am a big fan of the cabbage… even though I have to pick out the bacon!

Well, the food wasn’t horrible really — but it wasn’t great and my LUNCH cost me $ 17.87 and I DIDN’T eat a ton… certainly not that kind of amount. Also, they served up a chicken fried steak to my friend that was more than half breading… kind of yucky and he took most of it home and never finished it. Look, WHY is lunch $ 18? Entrée, two sides and dessert with tea. C’mon.
