MedSpring Urgent Care

Two different visits, one with a feverish two-​year old after pediatrician’s office close, and today to get a flu shot. Parents, this is the place to go when you can’t get to pedi. Clean and thorough care. Both times, NO wait. Beautiful bedside manner with my grumpy, ear-​infected kid; friendly and fast with my flu shot. But we will be coming here whenever the need arises!

This place is great. Open late, on weekends and hoildays; friendly, knowledgeable, efficient staff; takes basically every insurance policy. Perfect for when you have a minor medical issue that doesn’t warrant a trip to the ER, but needs attention after-​hours or on odd days.

There was no one else in there waiting, so I filled out a sheet of paper with my first and last name, DOB, and SS#. They showed me how much it would cost for a regular consultation ($ 149) for self pay — (I do not have insurance) and what it would cost if my problems were serious. I was in an out in about 30 minutes but everyone was very nice.
I was having difficulty breathing and had a weird lump in my throat, the doctor determined it was an abscess and prescribed antibiotics which I picked up from the CVS just down the road. In total with the antibiotics it cost me $ 170 bucks. Not bad at all. I was afraid this was going to cost me $ 300+ bucks!

Don’t waste your time. From observing the empty waiting area, people already know this.
Admission is trivial, almost no paperwork.
Actual medical care is competent.
Concern is more about billing than your health, however.
There are hospitals and doctors aplenty in the Austin area. You’ll do better to go to one of them rather than here.
Specifics: I wanted refills on my medications, as the original estimate of how quickly I would recover was clearly far too optimistic. Was told they cannot do refill scrips unless I paid for a second visit. Yeah, right. Whether that is house policy or actual law, I can find better care and concern elsewhere, and will. MedSpring will not see me again.

I came to this location on a Saturday evening. I only had to wait a few minutes in the lobby. Then once I went back to a room, the wait was only about 5 – 10 minutes. Overall, my entire visit there was only about 30 minutes.
The customer service was excellent.
The quality of service was wonderful as well. The doctor was very good at listening to my explanation of my symptoms and after a few test he explained my sickness, gave me Rx and I was on my way.

Imagine that time you were sick and you just felt so crummy. Like you just want to curl up in a ball and stay there for days. Well it’s like that x 10 when your child is sick. My daughter had a cough for almost a week. We tried all the over the counter meds we could think of. I usually don’t take her to the doctor since we can usually get her felling better by the third day with meds. (my sister was a pharmacy tech) Well this time it was no bueno. I felt her pain every time she coughed. We’ve all been there — sore abs, chest aches, even the muscles in your back hurt from all that coughing. I decided it was time to bring in the big guns… I decided to take her to the doctor. Well for some reason everyone in Austin is sick this day, and ARC after hours are all full. I thought I’d try a minute clinic — nope. Arrived at 7:14 and the kiosk wouldn’t let me sign in. It said there were too many people waiting and my appointment would be after their closing time. I looked around and no one was there. Hmmmm… I ran into the nurse who said they closed at 7:30. Odd that online it said 10, but that’s neither here nor there. She was kind and happily pointed me to an urgent care down the road. We arrived there in less than 5 minutes. Once there it was empty. My thought was «Awesome! We won’t have to wait long». There were only four cars parked in front with an empty lobby so I just knew we were golden. Wrong! As I signed in a voice from around the corner states «Just so you’re aware it’ll be like a two hour wait» … then the voice’s owner got out of his chair and rushed to the back. Nope! I was about to give up when low and behold Google saved the day! MedSpring on Slaughter. I’ve gone to the one on Ben White before, and I never remembered this location. I mean I only drive up and down Slaughter everyday. So we found it and went in. I was very impressed. The lobby is clean and the receptionist was great. They have a tv, coffee, and a small fridge with drinks. The receptionist was attentive, welcoming, and sweet. She gave me forms to complete, took my ID and insurance card, and had us in a room within 5 minutes. The medical assistant came in right away and took my daughters history and vitals. We waited like three minutes and were seen. My daughter got meds and after four days she was feeling so much better. Diagnosis: Bronchitis. This location was amazing. Granted it is still new, and once they become established I am sure the wait times will lengthen, but I will definitely be utilizing them in the future. We all hate to get sick, but if you’re sick and looking for a place to go… look no further. Recommend 100%

Beware! Medspring will rip you off!
Paid a visit to Medspring for a simple cut on my thumb that would not stop bleeding. Paid my copayment, got superglued, tetanus shot and was on my way. Did I mention the super gluing was billed as surgery? The super glue came off by the next day.
I just got the bill and before insurance it was over $ 600! After insurance, I still owe over $ 115. I made a call to the billing office and the operator acknowledged I was charged beyond the negotiated rate and I still needed to pay the remainder which had already be discounted.

We took our daughter here after she was crying in pain when I picked her up form school. Both of her ears were hurting and felt «stuffed,» and she had been fighting a cold, so I knew it was her ears. I tried to get in at ARC Southwest but they did not have any appointments until the next day at 4:00 pm, not even after hours. I’ve never been super impressed with them anyway so I did some searching and found this place.
I called and they said they could see her immediately. Yyay! We went at around 4:15 pm last Monday. The place is brand new, so no one was there. It is very nice and clean, smells a bit of paint covered by a air freshener, but it wasn’t overwhelming. I’m sure that is gone by now, though. There was a kids area, a Keurig machine, TV, and the waiting area is spacious.
We filled out one form, showed insurance info, and were seen within 10 minutes. We met with the medical assistant, and she was very good with our 5 year old. Made her comfortable, played with her, and made the visit very easy on her. In the waiting room there is a TV with a remote, so you choose what to watch during your wait time.
After a few minutes, the doctor came in. She was also very good with children! She made the check up easy and fun, explained everything about what is going on in our daughter’s ears, explained the prescriptions (antibiotics and drops), gave us some other suggestions for easing pain and speeding up healing time.
My husband and I were very impressed with the staff, the location is great for us, and the place is nice. They even offered snacks and juice, but we declined since my daughter has a peanut allergy and I wasn’t sure what the snacks would be.
