History
Established in 1954.
Stan Johnson Sr., born and raised in Austin, has always had a knack for all things mechanical. He had been a partner in a filling service station on Barton Springs Road for a bit, worked as a union carpenter, and finally worked for a local AC service company, where he found his true calling. Frustrated with the company he was working for; Stan decided to strike out on his own. In 1954, he and his wife opened their own AC Service business, built around his expertise and dedication to customer service.

Meet the Business Owner
Chris S.
Business Owner
In 1978, after graduating from Michigan State University, I came to Austin in a rusted out Corolla with barely $ 1200 to my name. Having witnessed the oil embargoes and huge gas lines of the mid 70s, I decided that energy conservation should be my life’s work. Shortly thereafter, I founded Conservation Unlimited. It operated with a staff of one, and the office was my garage. My brother Tom, my mom Caroline, and my other brother John joined me in the early 1980s. We changed our name to Strand Brothers.
In 1998, we sold our business to Service Experts, a subsidiary of Lennox International. I continued on as Strand Brothers’ General Manager until 2011.
Because of my lifelong dedication to serving my customers and promoting energy efficiency in the industry, I wanted to get back to working in a local family business. In early 2011, Stan Jr. decided to sell Stan’s to me, and I’m so happy to be back with a locally owned company where the emphasis is on the customer, not the corporation.
