Dr. Thoppil is a great doctor. Apart from is friendliness and his empathy, his medical skills are fantastic. I was diagnosed with a precancerous condition and he took me step for step through the treatment. His team was always very friendly and I had the feeling that they really took care of me. Thanks!

Patient centric portal for convenient excess to exam results and a message board for future appointments and heath recommendations. Refocused on my health after my Dad’s stroke in December, I made a doctors appointment. Dr. John Thoppil lead with a comprehensive wellness assessment comprised of exams and lab work. Results identified one element of concern putting at risk my future health. Dr. John Thoppil addressed the concern with clarity outlining options to resolve the risk. The success of my future health will be a journey supported by River Place OB/​GYN. Without question I recommend River Place OB/​GYN.

Dr T has been my doctor for two years. I first went to him because I had a bad cold and he is also a woman’s doctor. Months later I found out I was pregnant with my first child and I went back to him. I never had a bad appointment and I never had to wait long. Tiffany and Ariel are the best. They have never been rude or impatient with me.
When it came time for my son to be born, I was completely at ease. Dr Thoppil was there to explain everything he was doing and even had some magical way of keeping my mother calm! My son was born with the cord wrapped around his neck and he was covered in meconium, but I wasnt aware right away because he didn’t want me to worry. That’s a plus in my book for a first time mom!
We are moving 45 minutes away and you can bet the farm that I will continue to make the drive to see Dr Thoppil and his great team!

A good friend referred me to Dr. Thoppil after having a terrible experience with my previous doctor. At the time of my first visit, my husband and I were trying to conceive and we were having difficulty. I was extremely nervous but Dr. Thoppil made me instantly comfortable with friendly conversation. He reviewed options for moving forward so I could review with my husband and make a plan. He referred me for testing when we felt it was appropriate. My husband and I, eager to determine if there were any complications preventing us from conceiving, had the tests done immediately. Dr. Thoppil reviewed the results in detail and patiently answered all our questions. If you know my husband, I would like to stress «patiently.» We decided to wait on starting any low level fertility and give it more time.
About a year and a half later we found ourselves pregnant. At our first ultra sound, Dr. Thoppil remembered us with great detail. We were pleasantly surprised to discover we were pregnant with twins. Dr. Thoppil, once again spent extra time asking all our questions. At that visit, we met Tiffany, his nurse who is so positive and upbeat.
Later in pregnancy, I was diagnosed with preclampsia. Dr. Thoppil referred us to a specialist but remained our advocate throughout the pregnancy. He called me personally, to talk to me about what to expect and be prepared for. He didn’t downplay the situation and placed priority on the babies and my health. My husband attended all the appointments but Dr. Thoppil always spoke directly to me about me and the babies. The twins were born a few days before Dr. Thoppil’s birthday. I was in the hospital still and he came to the hospital on his birthday to visit and check on us.
Needless to say, I highly recommend Dr. Thoppil. He is laid back, humorous, personable, professional, and honest in his recommendations. I attended my well check today, a year + later. I was greeted with a hug from both Tiffany and Dr. Thoppil. Tiffany is so amazing that she remembered details about me even I forgot.

Personable and welcoming are benchmarks of this doctor’s office. With warm lighting, a unique pink chair, and travel themed rooms this isn’t your standard cold, callous, white hall experience. After going through five OB’s in the past seven years, I was referred by a friend to Dr. Thoppil. My expectations were low, as they often are with doctor’s visits, but I was completely blown away. The staff at Riverplace will truly get to know you and Dr. Thoppil actually takes the time to listen to you when you talk. I started visiting this office in January 2015 with my first pregnancy and plan on continuing to visit Dr. Thoppil and his staff until one of us either moves or kicks the bucket. Hopefully neither of those things happens any time soon.

We don’t get along… it’s that simple.
The conversation we had was more of an argument than a consultation. I wasn’t comfortable… not even for a minute.
The exam was extremely painful because he eagerly looked for something not existing (which I had told him before he even started)
He questioned my medical history (which was almost funny if it wouldn’t have been so sad)… I mean, he really questioned it.
I do have a long history and I am fearing Doctors more than anything else. He did not get that at all, he did not give me a little bit of time to build up some trust. It was just awful.
After reading all his positive reviews I was hoping for somebody with better bedside manners, or at least more understanding.
The front desk was friendly.
When I called in to cancel the next appointment (more than a week ahead of time) she pointed out that they made it a full day just for me and seriously asked me if I was aware of that.
Well, good for you… there you have your half day back.
I liked the interior though.

After relocating my family to Austin and finding out I was pregnant, I set out to find a top-​rated doctor to guide me through my first pregnancy. I found several potential doctors to meet with but after my appointment at River Place, I didn’t see a need for meeting with any other physicians.
From the first appointment, I felt comfortable and confident with Dr. Thoppil and his staff — I really was able to trust them. At my various visits throughout my pregnancy, they were respectful and made my visits personal — remembering me as an individual, not just a patient. Most physicians/​staff do not make the effort to do this; it was refreshing to visit a practice that will take the time to actually speak with you. I don’t think I have ever waited for more than 5 minutes in their office, which does not go unnoticed. Dr. Thoppil and Tiffany took excellent care of me and any concerns I had while also making the whole experience enjoyable — as your pregnancy should be! Their personalities kept things light while still being professional. I couldn’t have asked for better care.

Dr. Thoppil is truly a blessing to medicine. He is attentive, personable and offers an extremely warm presence. The office is welcoming, his staff is efficient at communication, and the wait time was almost nonexistent. Dr. Thoppil took a great deal of time with me during my first appointment. He answered all my questions and never made me feel rushed. I hope to have a minimal intervention birth, and I feel that Dr. Thoppil will strongly respect that desire. I drive 1.5hrs to see Dr. Thoppil and it is completely worth it. I enjoy the email communication, and appreciate how fast they are at providing test results. Overall, my experience thus far has been exceptional, and I strongly recommend River Place to other expectant moms.

I’m so incredibly glad I went to Dr. Thoppil. I know ascetics are not a big deal to all women but when I walked into the Rio De Janeiro room and there was décor and a black chandelier I knew this place had to be good. A doctor with that much attention to detail must know what he is doing.
I came to Dr. Thoppil after being very frustrated and treated very badly at another OB/GYN’s office. He put all of my worries to rest and answered all of my questions thoroughly. He spent quite a bit of time with me to make sure I understood all of the information he shared.
To top everything off his staff is so friendly and nice and everyone made me feel at home. He even gave me some great prenatal vitamins to try. I’m so glad I went to Dr. Thoppil.

Wonderful experience. Very polite and professional staff. The Doctor took his time and answered my questions. I had previously gone to a gynecologist for 20 plus years before moving here, at now time did he ever speak more than 5 minutes to me. I highly recommend this office.

I really can’t say enough good things about Dr Thoppil and his staff. From day one, I always felt comfortable and taken care of. His professionalism and personality made my experience better than I could have ever imagined. His bed side manner made it really easy to connect with him and feel comfortable. He delivered our first child and if we are blessed to have any more we would be honored to have Dr Thoppil welcome baby number 2.
My husband and I were looking for a good OB and we got that, and a good friend as well.

BEST OBGYN! I cannot imagine having found such an amazing and dedicated Dr. He has helped me with everything from breast issues to my third delivery which was a bit difficult. He has the patience of an angel and I am truly thankful for him and his amazing staff! I’ve been going to their office since I moved to austin almost 5 years ago and wouldn’t change him for anything. If you are looking for an OBGYN that will be professional, honest, patient and truly caring towards your personal needs and concerns this is the place to go! The office itself is inviting and nice and the front staff always greets with a smile even though they can get hectic due to how busy they are.

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience with the birth of my first child. Dr. Thoppil and his staff go the extra mile to make sure your experience is as comfortable and informative as possible. I felt confident throughout my pregnancy and birth experience (emergency C-​Section due to baby being breech) that my child and I were in good hands. They are so pleasant and easy to work with, as well as respectful of your time when it comes to getting you in for your appointments. This is rare to find in any doctor. Thank you River Place OBGYN!

I was looking forward to my first appointment after finding out I was expecting and recognized that Dr. Thoppil had several awards and 5 star reviews. I had also already been to him a couple years ago and didn’t want to start fresh especially since everyone spoke so highly of him on the Internet, and he is located in such a great area. I was very disappointed to find out this couldn’t be where I would continue my first pregnancy.
For starters they called my mother from the emergency contact info I left them two years ago in order to move my appointment due to the doctor having afternoon surgery. I had not told mom I was expecting yet so this was a little inconvenient because I was waiting for a special time and this gave it away since I had not mentioned an ob appointment and I do tell her pretty much everything. She is my one of if not my very best friend!
This practice uses email for everything else so I don’t see why they couldn’t email me about it… come to find out at my appointment that there was no surgery it was actually his birthday and he wanted to leave early… Which I understand! But they should have planned that before scheduling me in the first place. Also the morning of my appointment the receptionist called me because she forgot what time she had rescheduled my appointment. Seriously? I have been a medical receptionist before and I understand people make mistakes and forget sometimes but considering everything that had already happened it was kind of annoying.
Upon arrival I was having some issues with my insurance and they hadn’t mailed my card but they gave me a number to have the receptionist call for my ID and policy number. When I told her that she snapped back saying I should be the one to call them.
I was still on the call in the lobby when instructed me to go to the bathroom for my urine analysis.
When I went in to take my urine test there were cheerios and used paper towels scattered throughout the bathroom floor especially in front of the toilet which I actually cleaned up myself and planned on keeping to myself because when I worked for a plastic surgeon I recall how easily and quickly the bathroom got dirty even though I went in after each patient. However after my experience with the doctor and the more I think about it everything was pretty much unacceptable along with all the other things I just can’t excuse anymore.

Red flag I thought! But then I tried to be optimistic thinking he must just have a good sense of humor. Once I sat down the first thing he did was treat my pregnancy like an accident telling me this is what happens when you get off the pill and assured me he would put me on great birth control after this pregnancy. I have been off the pill for a couple years because my primary physician suggested it to regulate my hormones after being on it for 7 years.
My fiancée and I actually thought we were pregnant before I really was. When I turned out not to be and I was just really late it was actually sad and disappointing for both of us and we decided we really wanted this baby. It was not an accident and either way it’s my body so if I want birth control I would have let him know when we reached that point. I did plan on birth control after the baby but it wasn’t his place to say that especially at this point of my pregnancy. It just felt very judgemental.
I felt extremely rushed and when he showed me the ultrasound he let me know there was just one and to be glad cause he assured me I do not want twins! Which I thought was kind of a strange thing to say. Twins sound like a lot of pain but I wouldn’t say i don’t want them! Sounds like double the blessing to me :)
Anyway the nurse or medical assistant is awesome and I have no complaints as far as she goes. She actually seems to care unlike everyone else at that place. Once she left the room I discussed something of my rather personal opinion and concern with the doctor only to find out when I checked my patient portal that it was the first thing listed on my visit notes. So much for doctor patient confidentiality! I honestly feel no sense of trust or compassion here and I haven’t even bothered to cancel the next appointment they made me but I have moved on to a better doctor recommended by someone I trust. Canceling the appointment here is on my to do list for next week but I am not looking forward to contact with them honestly. I can’t believe how many good reviews they have… I must just not be their cup of tea because I definitely didn’t see or feel what all the 5 stars and compliments and patients choice awards were about.
Update: I cannot figure out how to comment back but there is indeed a provider line for your receptionist to contact since the member ID and group number did not suffice and I have been in touch with your office three times since then to resolve this including this morning.

I was referred to Dr. Thoppil back in 2012 by my GP at the time. She stated he would take great care of me and not to be worried. She was aware of my anxiety levels when it came to going to new doctors. Unfortunately, previous experiences have impacted my life in such negative ways — I simply opted not to go to the doctor until it was necessary. I was obviously traumatized from previous experiences and to say I was a challenging patient when I initially went to Dr. Thoppil is an understatement — I always felt like a cat about to be thrown into water due to the sterile and cold bedside manners of other doctor’s offices. Trust was never attained until I met Dr. Thoppil.
On 7÷24÷13, Dr. Thoppil helped me become Essure free, as I am one of the many impacted by severe side effects. He was able to do what no other doctor would, others were unsure of how to proceed in removing this permanent device and they did not understand the detrimental effects on my body. Dr. Thoppil was very positive; he did his research and successfully removed the Essure coils laparoscopically.
I am thankful to Dr. Thoppil, nurse Tiffany and the rest of his staff, as they are all very understanding and accommodating during my initial and continued visits. They always go out of their way to ensure I am comfortable and understand exactly what they are about to do each step of the way. There are never any surprises and they are always efficient and professional. The office is very well designed, clean, elegant and almost feels as if you are going to a spa, not the doctor.
I cannot thank Dr. Thoppil and his staff enough for taking such great care of my family, friends and me. Dr. Thoppil saved my life — we will be returning for years to come…

This was my normal GYN, and I appreciate how much they try to make this necessary part of a woman’s life as comfortable as possible. Unfortunately, as great as the doctors and the nurses are, the front desk staff and the décor leave much to be desired.
With every visit I have experienced the front desk receptionist to be unwelcoming. At my last visit she actually stressed me out making it very clear numerous times that I must pee in a cup before getting my appointment performed. At checkout, I patiently waited for her to stop arguing with me when I informed her I needed to update some information in their records.
I had to get an ultrasound performed, and they seem to want to try to get me in asap, and twice I was told that they were running behind. I sat down on the table and waited, and waited, and was told that the machine was not ready for use yet. It was awkward. It was busy uploading the previous patient’s images to the internet.
Décor: the rooms each have a word wall, and in no way does that word wall make you feel comfortable. Its not encouraging and it’s pretty nonsensical, especially when there are grammatical errors in these words. It’s kind of befuddling to read which is the last thing I want in a doctor’s office, to feel confused and befuddled. In one room where you can get an ultrasound performed, it looks like a really scary operating room, and the only décor in the entire room is the black and white picture of a grave site. There’s nothing positive to look at. And the bodily fluids on the cushion of the Dressing room. .just eeew.
Like most doctors offices of today, they use technology very well to communicate with patients, but they really rely on it a little bit too much for my taste. I’m the kind of patient that likes to sit face to face with the doctor or the nurse I’m working with to build a relationship of trust. I’m not going to take the time to look at your credentials online, or try to figure out a lab tests or the results of my pap smear. Unfortunately, they are not the best when it comes to GYN treatment, and their first option for me was to not treat my tumors, but to wait as long as possible and ignore my problems. I have moved on.

Dr. Thoppil and his team are absolutely wonderful! I was recently pregnant for the first time, and it unfortunately ended in miscarriage, but Dr. T and Tiffany, his nurse, were supportive, kind and so sweet in such a difficult time for me and my husband. They answered all of our worried questions and Dr. T gave us different options of how to handle the miscarriage safely and supported us in our decisions.
I will definitely continue to see Dr. Thoppil and his team as we try again! His office is beautiful, ran on time, efficient and you can really tell that patient care and comfort are their highest priority! We are so thankful we have found a doctor that is understanding, patient with questions, and always kind and supportive! Would recommend to anyone looking for an OB/​GYN! He’s the best!

Dr. Thoppil recently opened his new practice after leaving Cedar Park Regional. There was no doubt in my mind that I would follow him, even with the additional drive time. Dr. Thoppil has the best bedside manner of any doctor I have been to. He takes his time to answer all your questions. He is up to date on all the latest in the world of medicine. His wait times have increased slightly as his practice is growing (word must be getting out) but they are still no more than 10 minutes. His new office is gorgeous and his staff (love Estella!) is amazing! I won’t go anywhere else.
