If you are not sure what your car needs, we will perform a no fee inspection and provide a written estimate before any work is done. Some jobs will require more exhaustive diagnostic procedures, you will be advised in advance of costs for such services. Rising Sun is a DPS Certified Emissions testing and repair facility, we can fix problems that are keeping your car from passing State Inspection and get you legal with a new Inspection Sticker. Rising Sun offers the best quality OEM parts made by your vehicles’s manufacturer, and also quality aftermarket and remanufactured parts to save you money. All repairs carry a 12 Month, 12,000 Mile warranty.

History

Established in 1975.

Business started in south Austin in 1975 @600 S. Lamar servicing & repairing Toyota & Nissan cars & trucks. In 1980 a second location was opened on Burnet Road expanding to include all Japanese makes & models. In 1998 moved to the present location @2714 Foster Lane. Where now we service domestic and foreign makes of autos, vans & trucks.

I’ve been in the automotive business for over 30 years. I enjoy helping customers with diagnosis on tricky problems. I’m a family man & want to help other families with their transportation needs. I enjoy country western music & playing guitar in my off hours. At the end of a busy day I feel good about the jobs I do for my Austin customers. I’m have all eight certifications with the National Association of Automotive Excellence as a Master technician.

I continue to upgrade my automotive skills with continuing education by attending classes and studying online automotive sites. I have a math and chemistry background from college.

I’ve been taking my Japanese cars there for 10 years. They’re not cheap, but I’ve never had to take a car back for something that was done wrong. I don’t know of a better recommendation for a garage.

Be wary of this place. They talked me into an expensive repair that I suspected was not needed, but I paid it. Moreover, they recommended a second repair that I was also suspicious of, but I took it to a more reputable mechanic who said there was nothing wrong with it. I won’t go back. Ask your friends for someone more honest.

My FJ Cruiser’s transmissions was having some issues. Luckily, I live right around the corner from Rising Sun. On Friday I emailed them about 10am, they got back to me at 4pm and let me know I could bring by my truck Monday.
Dropped of the FJ on Monday at 9am and got it back at 1pm on Tuesday! Not only was the turn around fast, but the cost of the labor, parts, and fluids was WAY below what other shops charged. The cost of a transmission flush alone was about the same price as the total service I needed.
Allan was calm, cool, and interacting with him was super easy. The tech I talked to was nice and we had a quick conversation about the FJ. Cost of service was reasonable and they got it done FAST! SUPER FAST! Not bullshit and no surprises here! There is a reason that shop has been there for 40 years.

I sent out an email to the nearby top-​rated shops asking for an estimate for some preventative maintenance to my Prius. I got a reply in broken English that didn’t even answer my question, just basically said «stop by were here.» I decided to ask one more time for an estimate, and they just ignored that email. I went to a nearby top-​rated repair shop that actually took the time to respond to me and was very happy.

Love this place. My coworkers highly recommended this shop and they did good. David is very kind business owner. When I was hesitant to follow through with all the repairs he suggested, he was totally fine with that. I liked them so much, that I went back the next month to fulfill the rest of the repairs.

This place is great! I drove around trying to find a place just to get an inspection done (the other places I had gone to the one and only authorized guy to do inspections was out, so I ended up at this place after driving by). I thought it might’ve only been for Japanese cars, but that’s not the case. They specialize in them but can work on other cars too. Every single person I talked to, even just in passing, was absolutely professional, nice, and easy to converse with. I hate going to auto places because I’m always made to feel dumb, but not at this place! All I did was get an inspection done, but still.
Also, they told me it’d be about 35 minutes, I was out in just under 20 min! so fast! oh, and the waiting area is a nice clean open space. I’m definitely going back for anything auto-​related!

still the bee’s knees. David recognized me immediately upon my arrival, thanking me for my glowing Unilocal review of their services. i felt like a celebrity.
i was told the wait for my transmission fluid to be replaced would be around 45 minutes. i settled into the waiting area to begin my routine of Unilocal browsing, grocery list updating, facebooking, and sudoku puzzle solving. a mere 20 minutes later, my grocery list updating was interrupted as i was told my car was ready. 20 minutes!!! wow. now *that’s* a speedy delivery.

The guys at Rising Sun are such a change from my typical mechanic. I was no longer able to trust them, so decided to take my Acura to get some routine work done. I called them before I took my car. The quote was extremely reasonable and we discussed the options for the work since I was thinking of selling my car. Once I took my car in to them, they said it would be done within a couple hours — the Wed. before thanksgiving — so that was a relief. They dropped me off at work and within a couple hours they picked me up. Charged me exactly what they said they would and even threw in some better brake pads. Then, to top it all off, they said my window had fallen out into my door (a problem that happened before and it was starting to show signs again). They fixed it, didn’t charge me and said if it didn’t happen to us, it would happen to you. Finally, to demonstrate their honesty, I left my laptop there. Before I could get to the light, they called and told me I had left it. It was truly a great experience and I would recommend these guys to anyone. I will be going back.

The battery on my wife’s 2005 Odyssey died and I was changing it out for a new one. Put a wrench to the clamp and the entire assembly sheared off. It’s not just a battery clamp, but an entire. .. mess of wires being routed every which way. I thought «this ain’t gonna be cheap.» Rigged up a solution to get it started and took it to Rising Sun. An hour later I got a call telling me they could replace the whole assembly with a standard clamp for $ 30!

The plastic screw that holds on the inside door panel of the suicide door in my FJ Cruiser broke off (kids being too rough) and the dealership quoted me 160.00 plus 4 – 5 hours of labor saying the hwole door panel had to be replaced. I swung by Rising Sun, they ordered the part (screw only) and installed it the next day while I waited 15 minutes. Total cost $ 31.00. Amazing!
Honesty, a nice change of pace in today’s business world.

I work on my own vehicles, but there are times when even I can’t tackle certain tasks. Emission control systems are one of those tasks. These guys had my vehicle fixed right the first time and were very polite and professional. I came to them because my check engine light was on and I needed an inspection sticker. While I was waiting for my vehicle safety inspection an older gentleman came in to pickup his vehicle. The old man says «What do I owe you» and the man behind the counter says «Not one dime sir». Confused the old timer asks «What? Why?» to which the man behind the counter replied «You asked us to change the oil but it’s not due for another 2,000 miles. You said your dash lights were broken but in fact they were just set to the lowest brightness so we just slid the dial on the dash back to the usual position.» Elated the old man thanked them and left. After seeing this I can tell you that I will be a lifetime customer, such honesty! Go check the Better Business Bureau
and you’ll see that this shop has an A+ rating and has had such a rating for over 10 years. I can’t recommend these guys enough.

There’s no one except Rising Sun that I let work on my car.
Alan, the manager, is a really great owner and very helpful. Although, he seems to never remember me, even though I it feels like I am in there every few months or so, he gets the job done.
I usually drop my car off mid-​mornings and I never have to wait for the car service to drop me off to where I need to be.
Alan, always calls me as soon as he has diagnosed the problem and they are always under when it comes to cost. They are one of the only shops that dont try to swindle you for all you’ve got.
Not only myself, but my whole family trust their cars to Rising Sun.

After Unilocaling Rising Sun in general and deciding to take my ’94 Honda Accord in to this location to solve a seemingly untraceable electrical problem, I was feeling good. The experience exceeded my expectations, and the staff is as friendly and kind as can be. Alan, the manager at this location and his co-​workers are phenomenal.
The only thing I wish they would have done was call me when they figured out what was wrong and what action they needed to take, not because I wouldn’t have approved it, but because I simply didn’t even know it was fixed until I arrived back at the shop. It was way cheaper than I thought it would be and they said if that didn’t take care of the problem, they’d refund my money. I have no idea if they do this routinely but I was blown away, what shop offers to do that?!? Awesome.
I was respected, given all the information on what was done on my car and most of all, got exactly what I wanted: a car that starts like a charm now EVERY time, which is more than I can say after my last 2 auto shops failed to problem solve the issue in the past year. Yeah, these fellas have my business and I’m recommending them wholeheartedly.
