Midas

So I ended up taking my car to the dealership, where they figured out what was wrong and repaired the issue. It turned out it was wires that had been chewed through. This was nowhere on the list of things that Midas «diagnosed». This means that if even if I would have gotten ALL of the recommended work done on my vehicle (around $ 1000 worth) I would still have the issue. For your own sake, do not take your vehicle to this shop. The team is either incompetent, or full of people trying to scam you.

I used to love this Midas. Have been going for years. The people who worked there were honest, gave fair prices, and didn’t try to push other crap on you to spend money. But last weekend my engine light came on and I went to this Midas to find all new people working there and new «management». I knew they were crooks when the guy kept pushing break pads on me when I kept telling him I only wanted to fix the engine problem. He claimed I needed a new alternator and two other things and said it would cost $ 1,000. When I told him I didn’t have that kind of money and if I would be able to drive the car without getting it fixed right away he said I would break down and get stranded. When I said I would take me chances he said, «well I can give you a better price if you need me to.» Uhhhh why didn’t you give me the best price to begin with? I left with my car and it’s been driving fine and miraculously the engine light when off. Cars gonna break down my ass. Don’t go here.

The crew treated my car and I well. They replaced the break pads and rotors on my 2000 Jetta and gave me a discount on a synthetic oil change. Chris showed me the poor condition my old rotors had been in, compared to what the new ones look like. Everyone was very friendly. I recommend this location.

This place is great and the people that work here want to fix the actual problem, not just make money off of you.
New management. Won’t be going there anymore

Went into this location twice. 1^st time for an oil change. Manager on duty says, «our lift is broken and we can’t work on your vehicle, our sincerest apologies». Ok, no problem. 1 month later I come back to the same location for brakes. Manager on duty says, «our lift is broken and we can’t work on your vehicle, our sincerest apologies». Really? I guess their lift has been «broken» for over a month.
This location also did an inspection on my brakes where they promptly quoted me nearly $ 1000.00, claiming i needed all new pads both axles and rear rotors. (note: Service Tech said the OEM pads for my vehicle are their «premium price inventory» and the only pads available for my vehicle. I promptly left.
Fast forward 2 days. I bring the same vehicle to Firestone — Allandale. Firestone quote is exactly half of what Midas quoted for the same work and OEM pads which were not their «premium price».
This Midas location fails for having compromised equipment incapable of servicing certain vehicles, and for half-​shod misquoting products and services. Not competitive, not professional and not convenient.
FAIL — 1 star (I’d leave zero if I could)

I had the best experience at Midas on Burnet. Scott and David took excellent care of me! My car need quite a bit of work, and they helped me prioritize what needed to be done now and what I could hold off on. They also threw in some coupons to help me out with the cost! I appreciated them talking me through everything so I wasn’t confused as to what was being done to my car. They taught me rather than told me. I will continue to use them in the future!

I strongly dislike dealing with car issues. However, I’ve had good experiences taking my car to this location for oil changes and the like. This morning, however, I was out running errands, and I was creeping through a parking lot, when I went over a speed bump and all of a sudden my car started making a terrible ruckus. So, I parked and looked underneath and could see that something had come loose. (Dang it.) So, I drove over to Midas, where I was greeted right away. I explained what happened and they took my car in immediately. Meanwhile, I hung out in the air-​conditioned waiting area with a very sweet service dog. Turns out, one of the employees is a veteran and the dog is his calming companion. I really like the vibe of that, by the way. I chatted with the dog’s owner and he shared how much the dog helps him. Anyhow, within about 15 minutes, my car was fixed, and guess what? NO CHARGE. I will totally go out of my way to use this location of MIDAS whenever possible.

Even thought this is chain or franchise or whatever, it felt like a mom-​n-​pop shop. I walked in to the manager trying to convince this crazy lady to wait for her ride outside. It seemed like she had been in there rambling about who-​know-​what for a while. The the guy opens the door to the garage area and yells at one of the kids working to tell the other one to get off the phone and start cleaning or he’d fire his ass. This was right in front of me.
That said, they changed my oil in like 15 minutes and the price was really reasonable! So there’s that.

So i went here before during the summer, got the basic oil change, looking for the cheapest I could find. Got a whole spill on things needed to be done. Ended up being more than what I wanted to pay for but did nonetheless. Didnt get work done because i didn’t have money to spend fixing little bitd here and there. Well sure enough, what they told me would happen, did. My truck needs a whole new manifold/​catalytic converter. But 5 stars goes to them hands down for the work, effort and great customer service I’ve gotten from the owner Manuel. They were nice the first time I went, but now I will surely go to them for anything and everything in the future. So happy they are so close to the house. Taking my truck to see them in the morning :)

Had a fantastic experience here. John & Manny did a great job replacing my Flexcoil? and my Resonator. Did not have to replace the main muffler pipe or the muffler. Showed me the wear and tear damage before repairs and also after. Stuck to their price and the time to make the repairs.
Very nice gentleman and they also had a great sense of humor!

The guy that runs this Midas is super nice and helpful! (Actually, I’ve never had a bad experience at a Midas, so kudos Midas!)
Anyways, super helpful, doesn’t sell you what you don’t need, physically shows you what’s wrong so you can see for yourself and explains to you in ways you can understand what’s going on, and actually cares about the customer.
What more do you need in a mechanic?

This place didn’t try to upsell me when I had an old crappy car, and they aren’t now that I have a brand new car. They are super quick with oil changes and if you use their punch card you get the 6^th one free! The waiting room is small, but there is coffee and free wifi. The manager is super nice and I haven’t had any problems when it comes to paid services. The only reason I took off a star is because when I finally reached my free oil change, I don’t think the tech did the courtesy inspection that goes along with the oil change. I really like to have my tire pressure and all that checked so when I just saw him do the oil change and nothing else, yet put checks all down the courtesy check paper, it kinda pissed me off and made me wonder if they do this when you pay for oil changes as well. I will be keeping a better eye on that from now on and calling them out on it if I need to! Other than that I fully recommend this place.

So, when I hear a chain/​franchise auto repair place offering a ridiculously low price on oil changes or other basic maintenance, I’m usually leery, because I know they’ll make it up on upselling you on other services. So, when this Midas was running a $ 19.95 oil change and tire rotation special, I was ready to decline everything other than the oil change.
Suffice it to say, they did my oil change and rotation quickly, and only recommended two other services, which I declined — and they didn’t give me the usual speech about risking my safety, etc. Points for that.
Even bigger points for the ease of getting things done here — Midas accepts appointments online and their manager, John, appears to be interested in customer service.
I might’ve found a place for routine maintenance.

After spending $ 1200 at the Toyota dealership for an AC repair and a new battery, then receiving a $ 500+ laundry list of things that needed to be fixed ASAP, I decided to shop around. The Toyota dealership told me I needed new power steering, coolant and transmission fluid. They also said the ebrake needed repairing, the sparks needed replacement and the cabin air filter needed replacing.
I take my car in for regular oil changes, once a year for general maintenance, and my car only has 58,000 miles on it (which for 7 years isn’t bad). So I was surprised after taking regular care of my car, so much needed to be done out of no where.
I was worried about going to Midas because of the Unilocal reviews but I decided to take a chance because it is right around the corner. I made an appointment with John at Midas to get my inspection and told him about Toyota’s Inspection List. He said he would do a courtesy check on the vehicle to see what work needed to be done.
Midas found that the filter needed replacement, the ebrake needed an adjustment, and the power steering was due for a change (the color confirmed that). That was it. sparks were fine, coolant and transmission fluid fine and not due. Midas fixed all that and I got my inspection for a fraction of what Toyota would have charge.
John is a great guy, he is knowledgable and trustworthy. He listened to all my thoughts, concerns and a little ranting. I wish I had gone to Midas when my AC started acting up. I bet they could have fixed it for a much better price. Also Midas did the little things that made my car look nice! :)
I found my neighborhood auto shop and I will definitely be back. I’ll Unilocal those experiences too!

You know you’ve got geniuses working for you when «alignment» is spelled on the marquee as «alighnment».

Took my ’04 Jeep Wrangler here the other day because my temperature gauge kept going into the red zone and then back down intermittently. Obviously, it isn’t even the Texas summer, so I was concerned there was a pricy issue at hand. When I got there, I was greeted promptly and discussed my issues with John, the manager. He was top-​notch, listened to all my concerns and symptoms and got the car into the shop right away. They fixed the issues more quickly and cheaply than I expected and the Jeep has been running great ever since. Thumbs up to these guys — they are my new Midas of choice.

These guys overcharge and didn’t get the job done the first time.
Took my car here for breaks 2 years ago. They replaced the back breaks and turned all the rotors. My car broke smoothly for a while. Now 2 years later my Break Wear light goes on, so I take my car back, in-​case its the same set of breaks. This time its the front breaks need replacement and now the cost goes from $ 90 to $ 110. Even after paying $ 300 for the Front Break job, the Break Wear light was still on. They told me to buy the sensor and they would replace for free. I purchased the sensor for $ 17 and they replaced it and the indicator went away. Now I wonder if I really needed new Breaks for just the sensor replaced. My breaks seem fine before.
I also had a Check Engine light. They said it was the Mass Flow Sensor. They charged over $ 300 to replace it. Around $ 200 for the part and $ 100 for labor. I found out later that you can buy the part for around $ 100 at AutoZone and it probably would have taken 15minutes to replace. This did not fix the Check Engine light after driving 5 miles, the light came back on. Return the car the next day and they did some adjustments. One week later the check engine light is on again. I am giving up and disputing the charges to my credit card.

Just wondering about others experiences… because I took my VW in today and had a coolant flange and break pads replaced. When I drove away, I noticed my speedometer is now broken and stuck on 0mph. It could be possible that my instrument cluster went out in the 3.5 hrs they were fixing it… but an odd irony. Brought it back and they assured me they didn’t do anything, it just went out on its own. This may be true… but weird. I will say, they are all quite nice… but can’t really drive my car now, not to mention the oil prints all over it.

I brought my ’03 Honda Accord in for a routine oil change/​tire rotation on a Saturday morning (around 930ish). The gentleman at the desk immediately greeted me and asked how he could help. I informed him and noted that I needed codes pulled due to an intermittent check engine light. The shop wasn’t very busy and the mechanics got to work straight away.
While I waited in the office another customer was wrapping up his transaction and the mechanic that worked on his vehicle explained to him what was needed on his vehicle. I observed how professional he was and he was very personable. It appeared the customer was having a difficult time understanding what the problem was with his vehicle and the mechanic was able to give him an analogy, which helped him to understand what was going on with his vehicle.
While I waited the gentleman at the counter was very sufficient in addressing phone calls, another customer that came in while I was waiting, and assisting the mechanic in the shop. All the while he remained professional.
I was out of there in about 30 – 40 minutes and was pleased with the service, explaination of how my vehicle checked out, and what the code for the check engine light meant and recommended how I have the issue remedied.
Very professional, prompt, and friendly service!

I read the other reviews and I just have to say I haven’t had those bad experiences.
I’ve been to this place twice now. The first time my friend’s truck needed some work on its muffler to pass inspection. We needed a full-​service shop because we weren’t sure if we would have to weld up something custom. They fixed the problem so that we could pass inspection and it was reasonably cheap. That was my first experience.
My second and most recent experience was when my wife’s Mitsubishi Galant wouldn’t start one Saturday when I took it to get gas. My normal shop isn’t open on the weekends, so I took the car to this place.
They read the computer codes and said I needed a sensor replaced (about $ 300). I said okay. They suggested several other things («fuel system clean-​out», etc) but they didn’t give me any hassle when I said no.
But here’s where they really won me as a fan… I was working in the yard at my house and my cell phone’s battery went dead, so I didn’t get their calls to tell me the car was ready. When I finally figured it out and called them it was past their closing time by about 15 minutes. They said they’d wait on me, though, because they figured I’d want the car back.
By the time I got there it was 30 minutes past their closing time and only thge manager was there. He was cheerful and told me no problem. Wow.
The repair they did fixed the problem. So, I’ll definitely consider going to this place again.
