Description

Specialties

Rolfing is a gentle, holistic method of addressing restrictions and blockages at the connective tissue layer. This connective tissue, or fascia, surrounds and binds us together at the most basic levels – muscle to tendon, ligament to bone, etc – forming a web-like layer that holds everything in place. This web can become tight or «frozen» at certain points from injury, surgery, scar tissue or longstanding postural difficulties like scoliosis or vertebral rotations. Rolfing addresses these blockages by applying gentle pressure and stretching to release the tension. This allows the body to move and breathe with greater ease, flexibility and freedom from pain.

History

Established in 2009.

I came to Rolfing® as a result of my own history of back pain, neck pain and migraines caused by injuries sustained in falling from my horse as a teen. I’d tried various other types of therapy with only temporary relief, and it wasn’t until I discovered Rolfing that I found freedom from pain and a new way of being in my body. I knew I wanted to help others do the same.

I completed my Rolfing training in 2009 and have been loving my work ever since. I also have additional training in CranioSacral Therapy and Source Point Therapy®.

I recently relocated to Austin from Anchorage, Alaska. Though starting over is a lot of work, it’s worth it – Austin is a vibrant town in a beautiful setting and the people here (much like Alaskans) are active, athletic and ready to try new things!

Meet the Business Owner

Kara I.

Business Owner

Raised in Alaska, I enjoy hiking, biking, snowshoeing, horseback riding, kayaking, good music, movies, and literature. Most days I can be found outdoors with my therapy dog, Benson, a 90-lb Goldendoodle with a friendly streak that’s miles wide. Though new «again» to Austin I’ve lived here before, about ten years ago, so am familiar with it and feel I’m returning to an old friend. I’m grateful to be doing work that I love so much in a place that I enjoy.
