Started out great. He helped me out a lot. Found out a missed diagnoses that other dr’s spent over 5 years looking for.
Would be 5 stars instead of 4 but there are some communication issues. Not terrible though.

New patient here. I’ve been looking everywhere for a good doctor and I found one! Woo-​Hoo. Front staff are extremely nice and professional. Dr. Johnson was able to explain everything to me for me to understand not only about my health but what my insurance can/​cannot cover; something a lot of doctors nowadays won’t tell you. I highly suggest coming in 15 – 30 min ahead of time if you’re a new patient. All new form fill outs are on an iPad now and not on paper.
To save you time — they’re located on the first floor.

Everyone here is wonderful and truly cares about you as a person. Nicole was the best nurse I’ve ever had! Donna Goldberg is the best! Dr. Johnson is an awesome doctor and very knowledgeable and always funny :)))

I’ve always had a wonderful experience working with Dr Johnson and all of his staff. He’s been my primary care physician for 6+ years now, and I’ve continued to have a great experience with the PAs since he’s changed his practice structure. I’m staying forever. Thanks Dr. Johnson and team.

I initially saw Dr. Johnson a few years ago and was so impressed by his integrative approach that I was sure I would make him my primary. Well, life happened and I moved to Colorado before I could really establish myself as his patient. While living there, my health deteriorated more than ever and I started a desperate search for a good team of doctors to properly diagnose and treat me. Long story short, they were all nice enough but the time constraints of the system meant that I would get *maybe* 15 minutes to discuss my issues, be ordered to take a battery of tests, and then have to wait weeks for a follow up because their schedules were packed. I switched around doctors a couple of times and found the exact same situation. Sorry to say it, but the U.S. healthcare system has issues, to say the least. And don’t kid yourself with the «Affordable» Care Act: the system most certainly will not be getting better anytime soon. If anything, you’re going to start seeing more nurse practitioners
So when I moved back to Austin and found out that Dr. Johnson had converted his personal practice to a retainer medicine structure, I was over the moon. Retainer medicine is where you pay an annual fee that allows you ²⁴⁄₇ access to your doctor (really! you get his personal cell phone number!), no rushed appointments, you can get SAME DAY appointments, and so much more. I wish so badly that I had had this sort of care years ago BEFORE I started realizing I was sick. If I had the sort of holistic, integrative, proactive, attentive care that I have now, it’s quite possible I wouldn’t be in the mess. But I count my lucky stars that I have someone on my side who is not only available but who I can tell really cares. And his dear wife, Carol, is also such a caring person (she is office manager of his practice) who has called me just to ask how I was feeling after I went to the ER. It’s the «small» things like this that feel BIG. In an age where everyone is hurried, it’s nice to have a taste of «the good old days» of medicine, where your primary doctor feels like YOUR doctor, YOUR protector, THE person you trust and go to for answers.
The cool thing I like about Dr. Johnson is that he likes tech. He’s started using web portal before anyone else that *I* had seen. And he’s totally comfortable e-​mailing back and forth, which I prefer because I have time to gather my thoughts. And he’s funny! Not clown-​nose Patch Adams type stuff, but he has a dry humor that always makes me giggle. He is respectful and empathetic and, at the same time, will not shy from telling you the hard news. He isn’t afraid to try new things, but he also doesn’t just load you up with fancy new medicines and send you out the door. If you go to Dr. J and have a complicated health issue, he will give you a REAL treatment plan; we’re talking nutrition counseling, genetic testing, environmental sensitivity testing, holistic supplements, etc.
According to the letter he sent his patients a few months ago, he will be keeping a limited practice in order to have the time to be attentive, so he may or may not be accepting new patients now. If you call and he has availability, I suggest you snag a consultation immediately! Dr. Johnson is a Godsend, and as you can tell from my rambling review (sorry!), I am very grateful to him and his wonderful staff.

Dr. Johnson’s nursing staff is not only exremely unprofessional but completely indiferent towards a patients needs or issues. When leaving messages for help or information, no one returns calls and they make you call multiple times to try and get an answer regarding anything from prescription refills to simple billing questions. Overall, his decision to go into private practice greatly changed the demeanor of the staff and their customer service and empathy towards anyone. When I expressed that I would be looking for another doctor based on these facts. They simply removed me from their patient list and never even expressed a bit of concern to even apologize for the poor service I had recieved. After a little over a year of being treated by this office I would think they would respect someone enough to aplogize for any inconvenience or difficutly I had with their service.

New to Austin/​New Patient — Great first visit!!! I was quite impressed in my visit as the Cynthia was SUPER helpful with me getting scheduled due to some last minute changes. The nurse was very nice and conversational but not at the expense of moving things along.+
Dr.Johnson is AWESOME, he really has a way about him that was welcoming for a new patient. He spoke of the «why» behind his approach and made sure I was educated for each item we reviewed. I look forward to being a long time patient and encourage others to do the research you just may discover he fits your needs.

Have just started using this office and have been impressed EVERY time I have been in with Dr. Johnson. He is knowledgeable, respectful, and overall just about everything you could hope for in your family doctor. He gives ample time to every patient based on their needs and is not afraid to be straight forward with you when needed. His staff on the other hand is another story, there is one receptionist in particular who clearly has no clue how to do her job and does the bare minimum just to get you out of her hair. Out of the 20% of the time they actually answer the phone it’s likely you won’t get any answers out of them, they will just tell you they will have someone else call back (HINT: They won’t) Same situation if you leave a voicemail, don’t expect a call back. I’ve been waiting on test results that I went in for last Wednesday, was told it would be a 2 day turnaround max. Well…6 days later, multiple voicemails, multiple «We’ll have a nurse call you back» and NOTHING. They even told me the results are in 2 days ago but have yet to be able to tell me ANYTHING as «Dr. Johnson hasn’t reviewed them yet»! I’d hate to take my business elsewhere as Dr. Johnson is so great, but unless his staff makes a drastic turnaround he will be losing me as a patient.

First time here, about 2+ years ago, was for a regular checkup. I saw Leigh Wilson, the PA. She was nice, professional, and informative, but I believe she’s moved on since then. I’ve thankfully been in good health since then and haven’t needed to see a doctor.
Recently, I developed cold symptoms that lasted more than a week and figured I should probably be seen by a physician. When I called, they were able to get me in to be seen the same day for a quick check. I was able to meet Dr. Johnson. He was surprisingly charismatic, professional, and right to the point, yet very friendly.
I recommend Dr. Johnson and his staff for all your medical needs!

I have been coming to dr Johnson over 3 years now. I love the fact that they can squeeze me in same day and he has the checkin process automated. I never wait more than 10 minutes to see the doc and the staff is friendly. He has had the same nurse since I have been coming here and it’s nice to see that they remember you. I moved farther from his office lately but kept the same doc because of his customer service.

Been going to Dr. J for years now and he’s always helpful and full of good advice. Highly recommend.

I am seriously so glad I found this place! No one likes going to the doctor but this place made me feel so at ease. Yes as a new patient the forms take a while, they are on a computer but very thorough which is a good thing!
The girl who took my vitals and charted my issues was cool and seemed like a friend! I didn’t see the main dr but I saw his PA. I can’t remember her name but she was awesome! She literally spent about 25 minutes with me going over everything and asking a lot of questions. She was very thorough and wanted to make sure she had everything covered. The girl who took my blood hit right in the vein the first time and was so gentle.
Everyone I came in contact with was so sweet and seemed to really care! I’m so happy to find a doctors office I’m comfortable in and can see myself going to for years to come!

After years of winging it sans health insurance, I bit the bullet and got some. Dr. Neal was recommended to me right away, and I went. Everything is awesome there except I do feel like I’m being rushed by the Dr. himself every time I’m in. Also, the front desk employee tends to be pretty sassy sometimes, which I guess is cool in a way.

Dr. Johnson and his staff are amazing! I had a great experience today as a new patient with PCOS and insulin resistance. I also think its awesome that he has a nutritionist on staff too… I was able to meet with her as well as Dr. Johnson today. I’m now starting to have a more positive outlook on solving my health problems. I highly recommend Dr. Neal if your looking for a new doctor!

I am impressed with the level of attention that I received each time I go. I’ve gone about twice — once for asthma and eczema and another time for stomach pains. Both times, the PA and the doctor took the time to answer questions, were kind and I did not feel rushed. They are also very knowledgeable and thorough in their explanations. I’m a fan.

I am so grateful I found Dr. Johnson, I have never found a doctor that I like more. Before my bf and I were out of the door from my first visit he said «I’m going to this doctor from now on.» The entire staff is so nice and Nicole, the nurse, rocks! She’s super friendly. They actually take the time to get to know you and remember you!
Dr. Johnson explains everything clearly and listens when you explain things to him unlike other doctors who have the «ugh huh, ugh huh, hmm ugh huh» syndrome. I have had some painful and uncomfortable procedures done here and he never makes it uncomfortable he actually had me cracking up most of the time. I appreciate a good sense of humor especially in those circumstances. Prior to one procedure he was very adamant about getting it done and when I finally did he said «we just want to keep you around for as long as possible.» Nice to have a doc who seems to genuinely care.
My ONLY complaint that seems to be repetitive is when they say your results will be in in 2 – 3 days, 4 – 5 days later go ahead and call.

Looking for a doctor and all those that were recommended by friends were not taking new patients. Found Dr. Johnson on Unilocal and he is great. I had done some research on blood tests to have done during a physical exam and Dr. Johnson already had them all on the list before I mentioned them. Luckily for me only my vitamin D was low. Great staff and nice office. So… I now have a «family doctor».

Really nice, the reception is nice too. They use computerized forms which are awesome. Dr. Johnson saw me when I was having a panic attack and helped me. Totally recommend.

I just moved to Austin from Alaska, and needed to see a doctor on my second day here. I called Dr. Johnson’s office and they scheduled me for an appointment in the very same day.
At the office, they had a very quick and efficient procedure for checking in and out. The staff was very friendly and Dr. Johnson was very easy to talk to and made me feel very comfortable. I was in and out in less than a half hour.
This will definitely be my regular doctor now that I’ve moved here. I’m so glad I found a good doctor right away.

Dr. Johnson is a cheerful guy with a great bedside manner. I imagine he’d be great with young patients. He invites questions during your visit. His staff has also been warm and friendly during every visit. Once he set up a next-​day appointment with a specialist (who’s usually booked for a few months).
His regular hours seem to be M-​F 8 – 5. I recall him mentioning he used to work at an Army hospital. A friend who went to him as a child recommended him.
His office is at the Southeast corner of Jollyville and Duval, in the Ladera Creek medical building. It’s pretty easy to find and has enough parking spots.
