Method.Hair

My visit to Method Hair was my first experience at an «actual» salon. After years of trying to balance price and outcome, I learned that you get what you pay for with a hairstyle/​cut, and I was ready for some quality. So I went to the highest rated salon in my area, Method.
I have long, thick, natural, and very blonde hair which often causes stylists to get «creative» and I usually end up staying home after a hair cut and hiding until I can find a way to fix it (which usually involved me getting out scissors or wearing my hair up for the first two weeks). Not to mention that since my hair is so long and thick I usually end up paying triple price in extra fees. That was not the case with Method. Every part of the process was pleasant.
The online booking services left me with some questions (what is a consultation, do I need one, etc.). I also needed to know about parking and other details. I sent them an email with my questions and was given a response within an hour with everything I needed to know.
When I arrived at the salon I was welcomed in with a drink and checked in. When I gave her my name, the women who was at the front knew who I was meeting with and at what time my appointment was without even checking her computer screen. That impressed me greatly, and reassured me that this was a place where I would be taken care of.
When it was time, Sophie came in and sat down with me in the waiting area. She got my «story» and my hair care routine (no heat use, no dyes, shampoo type, how often I wash it, what products I use, etc). She asked about the nature of my hair, (is it dry, how often does it get oily, is it more wavy or straight, how does it react to different things, etc.) and then asked what I wanted. At this point, she hadn’t touched my hair yet, which was very different than other salons where the first thing they do is touch it and get it washed before asking what I want.
After our mini consultation time she washed my hair thoroughly (starting with a detox, then a treatment, and then an amazing shampoo and conditioner). In the chair she did things a little bit backwards, but it made a huge difference! She brushed out my hair and began to trim the ends a small amount. Then she got out her blow dryer. She dried my hair before doing any real cutting or adjustments to my hair. This dry cut was really cool because I could see the finished product immediately as opposed to waiting until my hair was dry at the end and hoping for the best.
Unlike my past experiences with other companies, I left this salon beaming and sending pictures to my boyfriend, parents, and sisters. I literally couldn’t stop smiling. I was sent home with samples of the products (which I will be purchasing ASAP) and the best haircut of my life for 70 $ (a bargain for my length). I have already scheduled my next appointment with Sophie, who I highly recommend!
This salon also does a complimentary touch up between appointments, which is so convenient and shows the pride they take in their work and how much they care for their customers!
I am never going to another salon, and I will recommend Method Hair to anyone and everyone I can. Stop looking now, this is the place to go!

Ranae is super talented and transformed my hair from boring to faboo! I wasn’t sure how to describe what I wanted, but she seemed to tap into a higher hair consciousness and brought awesomeness to my previously drab locks. She’s very personable, and I was totally comfortable spending hours with her, which was soothing since I’ve been known to experience social anxiety with new people. I would recommend her to everyone!

I found Method on Unilocal after I found Black Orchid and went to their website to schedule an appointment and realized that I would have to use my phone for speaking. The process of finding a new stylist is agonizing enough and now I have to talk a person to sign up for it? Nope.
I know it seems a little ridiculous to change my mind because I’d have to call to schedule, but I am not the only introverted client they have lost. Method had the same awesome reviews but was a little further from my house so I went to their website, which is simple but professional and found what I need from a hair salon, online appointment scheduling.
I chose Natalie because of her frequent mention in other reviews and her availability. She was super cool. Being stuck in a chair for over an hour, at the mercy of a stranger with scissors has never been my idea of a good time. Every once in a while you find a stylist who either gets you because they are they are also socially awkward or someone who gets you because they are good at what they do and can adjust to your needs. I haven’t figured out which is true of Natalie but I actually enjoyed talking to this stranger with scissors.
My haircut looks great! She didn’t seem annoyed that I brought some pictures for reference, she asked questions and listened to what I wanted and delivered exactly what I was looking for. She worked with my hair type and was understanding of my disinterest in doing anything more than a quick blow dry to style.
The price felt like a lot but I bought a couple of other things Natalie recommended. The cut was $ 80 which is similar to other nice salons. I walked out the door paying almost twice that with gratuity and 2 products. Nothing I didn’t expect but more than I intended or could really afford to spend which isn’t really anyone’s fault but my own.
Overall it was an awesome first appointment and I will be back the next time my hair gets unreasonable.

I haven’t been to a salon in two years and was excited to finally take the plunge and try out a new salon. Method hair had great reviews so I thought I’d take my chances and hope for the best. I was scheduled with Michelle for a haircut and she was so great! She listened to what I wanted and asked questions and made beneficial suggestions. The shampoo was fantastic and she gave me lots of samples to try out. She was so kind and very intelligent about her craft. I was extremely happy with my experience– Thanks Michelle!

Natalie was so helpful to me in trying something new after years and years of the same hair style. She gave it to me straight about function and style, coming up with something I’d have never thought of on my own that I totally love. If I lived in the area, she’d be my stylist from here on out, but since I don’t, the best I can do is thank her and recommend others go to Method for their cuts. Bonus: the can of Lone Star helped take the edge off getting ready for my cut.

Im so happy with the cut Sarah gave me. I wanted something cool and edgy and that’s what I got. I went in yesterday and had another stylist cut my hair and she just didn’t get my hair at all. She was a bit afraid of doing what I wanted. I walked out with something I was so completely unhappy with. I decided to send an email to the salon even though I’m so not that girl! Usually I would just leave it alone and just never go back but with the awesome reviews this salon had gotten I knew it had to be a fluke somehow.
Within 15 minutes Sarah called me back and wanted to make it right. She did offer to refund my money but she also offered to go in early today to do my hair herself. So, I went in this morning with dry hair and she did a dry cut on my hair with its natural texture. I couldn’t be happier. I’m so pleased that yes it was just a fluke. I can’t wait to go back in 3 weeks for a trim. Thank you so much Sarah for making this right and making me so eternally happy. I feel great.

A truly amazing salon, very welcoming, with a lovely environment. When I went in to make an appointment the receptionist suggested Michelle and she did such a wonderful job with my hair that I am really looking forward to my next one! I didn’t really know what I wanted, but I knew what I didn’t want and from that Michelle was able to interpret my wishes into a beautiful and dynamic haircut. She is fun to talk to and gives a great haircut! I highly recommend her.

I just had the best hair cut of my life with the fantastic Tara! I’ve been searching for a curly hair specialist and she did my hair right. She also gave me a few samples of the products she used which smell amazing. Very impressed with her skills! And she was super cool to talk to. Thanks Tara!

Michelle rocks my world. She taught me how to work with my natural curls. I always straighten my hair due to my ignorance in taming them. She gave me a fantastic haircut and showed me how to style my hair in a way that is conducive to my laziness. I had a general idea of what I wanted and she was able to fill in the details giving my haircut more depth.

I had an appointment yesterday with Shannon, and I can definitely say it was one of the best salon experiences and haircuts of my life! They gave me a glass of wine when I walked in the door. When she was done with her previous client, she came to get me and we sat and talked about my hair, including my normal styling and care habits, what I wanted, and what problems I had. Then after getting my hair washed, she cut my hair wet before styling it curly for me and doing some precision cutting. I couldn’t stop smiling when checking out my new ‘do in the mirror!
I told Shannon that she made my natural curls look like curling iron curls (with curling crème and a diffuser!)…she definitely works some magic. She gave me tips along the way and even gave me a great sample of the new curling crème «Killer Curls» to take home and practice. Doesn’t hurt that we had great conversation throughout the appointment as well. I will certainly return, and would absolutely recommend her!

I just got the best haircut of my life, and I’m saying that after getting some cuts at high end salons (like Gene Juarez in Seattle), and having a big sister who is a stylist and makes great recommendations. Shannon knows how to work magic with curly hair. She cut it wet and then cut it dry and for the first time since having a baby a year ago and going through a hasty postpartum chop-​it-​all-​off, I finally look like ME again! I couldn’t be happier. I can’t wait to go back!

I got my hair cut and styled by Crystal today, and I would like to give her a solid 5 stars! She was seriously awesome. She took her time to understand my hair and to understand how I wanted it cut. I appreciate her confidence, which allowed me to relax and just enjoy the hair pampering experience. Oh, and did I mentioned Crystal gives the best scalp massages.
Ambiance: Okay guys, I think everyone at Method has tattoos, so it’s totally cool! That having been said, if you are offended by the occasional swearing, I did hear a word or two from a stylist, definitely not from mine though. Crystal was VERY polite and friendly.
Need a Barber to do a straight razor cut? I saw a client arrive to get his head shaven. When it was all said and done, his head shined beautifully. They warm towels for that service. I think I’m going to send my significant other to get his hair done there.
All in all, I did like this place and do recommend it for a a relaxing, lay back hair experience.

I’ve found «the one». After so many trials and failures I have finally found Ranae. Not only is she so sweet and fun to talk to, she is also an absolutely amazing hairdresser.
What I love about this salon is that you can book consultations for no price at all. That way I didn’t feel like I had to commit right away. I met with Ranae and she really seemed to be listening and understanding my problems and concerns. She even gave me a ton of amazing samples for no price at all! I was able to book a cut and color about a week and a half later.
I have super fine hair that has also been dyed so much. I wanted a cut that made my hair look fuller and a healthy way to keep dying my hair blonde. Ranae solved all my problems. She was also able to perfectly imitate Jenna Dewan-Tatum’s hair that I showed her a picture of on Pinterest. She listened to what I wanted but also adjusted it with her own professional judgment of what truly would look best on me! I’ve never loved a cut as much as I have this one. I normally am hesitant immediately after a cut but I’m still absolutely in love with it. I couldn’t recommend her anymore and look forward to booking with her ahead. Word of advice: Book as early ahead as you can because she is so popular!
Also get there a little earlier because there’s only street parking.

Ranae rocks.
For the first time in my life I have a hairstylist that I feel loyalty towards because in the past 2.5 years I have loved each and every cut I have gotten from Ranae. She cuts my hair dry too, which I think is just great. Every time she styles my hair at the end, she does a different technique and teaches me how to replicate — and it’s usually simple enough that I can actually do it on my own!
The salon in general is lovely. I always appreciate a place that’ll give you a glass of wine while you get your haircut.

Sarah has been able to work wonders not only on my natural wavy/​curly hair, she has transformed my hair to be less time consuming, easy to style and loving the color. After my first visit, I finally felt like I had found someone who has the knowledge and experience to understand my hair and give me the best products to maintain between visits. Furthermore, everyone at Method Hair goes out of their way to ensure that you have the best experience.
I won’t go anywhere else. Bar none, the BEST stylist and salon in the SE Texas area.

I wanted to love it here… I really did. It definitely has a cool vibe. My first visit was for a simple trim and it took a little over 2 hours from start to finish. Yes, you read that right…2 hours for a trim. I had a 10 – 15 min. deep conditioning, otherwise the trim took about 1.5hr.
The stylist didn’t seem very confident in what she was doing. She pushed the product line haaaard from the beginning. It was exhausting. Then after drying my hair, she said it was kind of «crispy» because she had put «a tidge too much product in». Amanda, the stylist working next to her, walked by toward the end of my appointment and looked at the back of my hair like I had a rodent stuffed in there or something. (It also seemed like they didn’t like each other. The tension was so awkward and uncomfortable.)
I did go back to have it fixed and the second stylist (barber?) talked «at» me about how this is just what hair does when it’s growing out and mine is particularly troublesome with the cowlick, and the style, and my pony tail, and ohmygodshedidntstopfuckingtalking. I wanted to effing leave before she started, but I’m not a jerk like that. She gave me blunt bangs after I asked for some soft fringe and not a rat’s nest on my head. The appointment was so much about her. So, that sucked.
I didn’t realize how bad it was until I went to a new stylist and she jokingly asked if I had cut it myself with blunt scissors and no mirror. I’m since still trying to grow it out so we can continue to fix the damage.
I highly recommend waiting to get in with a top stylist at Method or just go somewhere else. I found out later that I had been scheduled with a junior stylist and it ended up being a waste of time and money, and for the first time in almost 30 years I don’t like my hair.

My hair journey in Austin has been interesting. I’m VERY serious about my hair.
Basically in late October I was so unhappy with my hair that I was ready to cut all of it off. I happened to be walking by method. hair and bopped in to see if anyone could help me. I was desperate. Liz at the front went in the back to see if anyone was free to talk with me for a minute. I think it was Sarah who was free and came out to talk to me about my options. She spent a good 15 minutes with me, so I already felt comfortable.
Long story short, for the look I want, I need foils. She said, «Kristin is a great foiler. You should see her.» So I made an appointment, waited a month, and finally saw Kristin on Saturday. Oh my gosh. What an experience. Kristin spent way more time on me than I had booked for and completely overhauled my color, closer to what it looked like when I truly loved it and gave me a fantastic cut. I didn’t catch the name of the lady who was shadowing her, but she was wonderful help, and gave me a GREAT shampoo. They sent me home with so many samples, and I’m excited to go back to the Kevin Murphy line!
I highly recommend that you go in and ask questions. It’s the same concept as anyone who practices art on humans, communication is key.

I liked the enthusiasm and ambience. Scissors on the wall are cute.
I didn’t like feeling stupid, which is what I felt when my stylist used the word «frumpy» to describe my look. Saying «it’s like a pixie mullet» wasn’t nice, either. It’s not cool to shit talk my ‘do to another stylist while I’m right there. Can we agree?
When I was asking about color, her eyes were looking across the room. Was I boring her? She said very little, and as a result, no plan for color was developed. Bueller?
So bang and neck trims are free. That’s cool. Super cool. But it comes with commentary.
The first time I was in, my ear got nipped by scissors. Complementary hair goods were sweet to get as a result of that, but putting nasty, deprecating words about my looks in my ear tonight was just awful.
Overall, be solid in your look if you come here, or be ready for criticism.

Treat yo self!
First and most importantly, I’m really happy with my haircut from Natalie at Method. It was my first appointment at the salon and I will be back. I was there for nearly two hours, but that wasn’t a bad thing. It was more like a spa experience with a shampoo head massage that would have paid for separately. Natalie was fantastic. She listened and produced a haircut that I am happy to have on my head — meaning it falls into place without me thinking about it!
PS, while I was there I saw a young boy literally squeal with delight upon seeing his haircut!

I love this place ! Went for a hair trim and partial highlights. I saw Katie and she was so sweet. I truly appreciated how she really took her time and I did not feel rushed (I was there probably 4 hours) .
Upon arrival I was offered a mimosa and during my extended stay I was offered a couple more which were gladly accepted by me. Katie took her time with me listening to my thoughts but in the end I had the confidence and just wanted her to use her skills to create a natural look. She did amazing !
If you are considering whether or not to make an appointment do it !! Yes the prices are a bit steep but these ladies are artists with your hair .
I look forward to the next time I’m in Austin to make an appointment here !
