Melissa Borrell creates jewelry as well as innovative products for interiors. Her designs emphasize the interaction between an individual and a product. Her designs include jewelry, wall coverings, sculpture, textile design, lighting, and other home accessories.
History
Established in 1999.
A native Houstonian, Melissa has lived on both the East and West coasts. After earning a BA in French Literature and Studio Art at Tufts University and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston she moved to San Francisco. Self-taught as a jewelry designer, Melissa opened her jewelry studio in the Mission district of SF in 1999. In 2005 she received an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design and moved back to Houston to establish Melissa Borrell Design.
She has won numerous awards for her jewelry designs and has work published in the 500 Necklaces juried by Marjorie Schick and Tangible: High Touch Visuals published by Gestalten, Berlin. She was an Artist in Residence at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in 2004 and received an Award of Excellence from Rhode Island School of Design. Carried by the MoMA in NY, the MFA Houston and many other museum shops across the country, Pop-Out jewelry has been a hit since it was first introduced in 2007.

Melissa’s interest in jewelry stems from a desire to engage people in her artwork. By making interactive pieces she emphasizes the idea that jewelry is transformed by the wearer and looks different when you put it on from when you are not wearing it.
