History

Established in 2011.

We began in the back room of our East Side home, and grew quickly from there. After expanding into a proper studio at Canopy in 2013, we almost immediately grew out of it! In April of 2014 we upgraded to a much larger space within Canopy that now features a small retail area.

We are thrilled to be able to have a small storefront from which to sell our goods that is a part of our working studio. Not only can customers find the perfect gift, they can see things as they’re being made!

Business Owner

William Knopp and Jessica Tata are the husband and wife team behind Son of a Sailor Jewelry and Son of a Sailor Supply. The birth of the brand is inextricably tied to their own relationship – when they first met and began designing together, Son of a Sailor was the organic result.

Much of the inspiration behind their handmade jewelry and accessories comes from the application of color, pattern, and geometry to materials with a rich history and story. They embrace the convergence of innovation, functionality, storytelling, and bright, bold geometry in all of their designs.
