Lake Austin Spa Resort

I’m unfortunately very disappointed in the customer service this spa has to offer. I received a gift certificate to the Lake Austin Spa as a gift to use with both my mother and sister. Because of busy schedules and school, we hadn’t been able to use the certificate and it had since expired. We inquired about using the certificate anyway, as most places will continue to honor — as they are indeed paid for. The spa wasn’t willing to allow us to use it, not even willing to give us half credit or any value whatsoever for the well-​over $ 1000 gift. I’m disappointed, especially being a local, that this establishment couldn’t find ANY sort of compromise for a customer.

I had an earlier issue with Lake Austin Spa Resort that resulted in my writing a negative review. As it turns out I was misinformed and Stacy, LASR’s Reservations Manager, was very helpful in clarifying the issue and acted in a very professional manner in dealing with the problem. In fact, she went above and beyond to ensure that I was completely satisfied. It is rare to encounter such a high level of customer service and I am very appreciative. Kudos to Lake Austin Spa Resort and to Stacy.

I have stayed at Lake Austin Spa & Resort twice and it never ceases to amaze & delight me. The staff really go out of their way to please their guests. It’s beyond relaxing. It’s beyond beautiful too. I love strolling along the path, wearing a white, fluffy robe, while having all my negative thoughts dissipate into oblivion. Even though it was cold, I sat by the pool, plunged into the hot tub and soaked all afternoon. I was able to work on my tan in the middle of winter. There were no other guests by the pool, so I had my book and spent hours by the pool, listening to the waterfall and reading. I even took a kettle bell class the next morning and ended up being the only one that participated, so I had a one on one kettle bell class with a trainer. It was one of the best workouts I’ve ever had the pleasure of doing. After a day of going to the spa, strolling around in a robe, working out, then eating dinner, it was so nice to be able to go to my cozy room, which overlooks Lake Austin and soak in the tub. I then slept like a baby, because the sheets were so crisp & cool, like the ones on my own bed at home. In the morning, you can stroll down to breakfast and casually plan your day of doing absolutely NOTHING in paradise! I will return! The only drawback and I mean the ONLY drawback are some of the other guests. They can be rather, uh, how shall I put this, «snooty.» On my last stay, I kept running into this same, blonde older woman that was there with a group of friends and she would just stare at my sister & I like we were white trash. I am not sure what gave her that impression, but we were minding our own business, relaxing and enjoying each other’s company and everywhere we went, we would end up running into the «Wicked Witch.» My sister & I came to the conclusion that her face must of been frozen into a permanent scowl from her defective face lift, because she was giving us the evil eye at every turn. She must of flown off the property on her broom stick, because later on, we never saw her again. After her departure, we were back to the business at hand, which was relaxing!

This place rocks every world. The spa is absolutely beautiful. The resort takes you to a relaxed heaven. The décor is country chic. Overlooking the river was breathtaking. The massages are relaxing. I got a deep tissue-​it was more like light to medium pressure. But very good and I have no complaints at all. The steam and jacuzzi are delightful. The seating areas are spacious and comfortable. The pools are so amazing. Take your bathing suit. I forgot mine. Yep I regret that. But even to sit at the pools and yes walk down to the Grand barn pool. And boy is it Grand. We then walked down to the lake. This is a must. There is tons of seating. And if you are lucky grab a hammock. I could have stayed all day in each area. Lake Austin Spa Resort should be a must check out on your list if your in Austin. I can’t wait to visit again.

Visited for first time this September for 3 night stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. Entire staff was extremely friendly and attentive. We were slightly concerned about the food but everything was delicious and portions, while small, were completely satisfying. We had several spa treatments which were good although choosing the longer options is best as the time passes very quickly. Be sure to book all of your treatments in advance as the spa is open to the public and appointments are more difficult to make once you are on site. Rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable with nice amenities. We found the other guests to be easy to talk to and because it is small you feel a sense of community. Highly recommend Lake Austin Resort and Spa!

Recently, my boyfriend and I spent the most amazing long weekend at Lake Austin Spa. What a treat! From the moment we arrived, the staff was helpful and attentive. They showed us to our room which was the perfect combination of luxury and comfort. The décor was high end but had a warm down-​home feel. We had a little private patio that looked out on the lake where we spent sipping coffee in the mornings. The beds and linens were extremely comfortable and if it weren’t for all of the amazing spa treatments, activities and pools I could have stayed cuddled up all weekend!
The food was amazing– They have done an incredible job with keeping the meals portion controlled, low calorie and still amazing! If you stay at the resort, you have access to the spa café and the resort dining room. Breakfast had delicious menu items like avocado toast with an egg, bacon and tomato and Migas. They also had an oatmeal bar, tons of fruits and granola.
Lunch and dinner always had a salad bar with incredible entrees of scallops, filet and lobster. One thing that I loved was that almost all of the veggies/​herbs are taken from their gardens on property. I was floored by the garden. They had over 30 types of basil alone?! If you are a foodie or like fresh and healthy food, this is your place!
Between workout activities, boat rides, aqua bikes and a few hours lounging by the pool, we loved exploring the property and posting up on the hammocks. I had the best Swedish massage ever… I wish Austin was closer because what Elizabeth did in 80 minutes changed my life! I also had a great facial that left me glowing! They were knowledgeable, professional and made us both feel so comfortable.
Overall I would rate this one of the best and most relaxing places I have been– It was the perfect place for a long weekend (with the added perk of not having to travel too far). There is something for everyone and you have the ability to make it exactly what you want. I can’t wait to go back– maybe this time with my mom or girlfriends!

I just spent my second weekend down at Lake Austin and somehow it was even better than the first!
ROOM:
We were in one of the Luxury Lakeview rooms and it was incredibly peaceful and serene. We had (as the room’s name states) an awesome view of the lake and were close to the super comfortable hammocks they have — which we used as often as we could. The room itself was very clean, and the beds were some of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept on. Since we were there in August, probably the best part of the room was the powerful AC unit! I also love the Lavender scent that is in all of the lotions and shampoos.
FOOD:
For the price you pay at Lake Austin, you expect the best food, and you get it. All of the herbs and vegetables are picked fresh from their garden, and it shows. They somehow manage to pack a ton of flavors into very health-​conscious and low-​calorie foods. I recommend trying the Okra and the Lobster Bucatini.
SPA:
My girlfriend and I opted for the couples Swedish massage and enjoyed every second of our 80-​minute treatment. The only disappointment was that it did not last longer. The staff was friendly, accommodating, listened to every need we had, and in the end, produced an immaculate experience.
ACTIVITIES:
We were there during one of the «Special Chef» weekends and Gail Simmons (from Top Chef) was the visiting chef. We went to both of her events and she could not have been friendlier and nicer. Her cooking demo was delicious (in fact, we made her Fig Tart recipe just last night). I think the best part about the Lake Austin experience is that you can sort of «choose your own adventure». My girlfriend wanted to take advantage of all of the workout classes (and she did), while I wanted to be a little bit active, but mainly relax. I went to one of the classes with her, we did the boat cruise on Lake Austin, rode the water bikes, and of course, hung out by both of the pools.
OVERALL:
Lake Austin certainly isn’t for everyone. However, if you’ve been to any of the destination spas out west (and I have), I think you’ll agree that this little slice of paradise in Austin is the best choice — mostly because the lake itself provides for serenity and countless activities. If you have the opportunity, don’t miss giving this resort a try.

General Manager Chris Bird called me promptly after I posted my review. He seemed interested in what I had to say and indicated some areas where he had incorporated my comments into additional staff training, or other areas where he would consider my comments as changes were made in the future. I’m pleased that he listened to my concerns and look forward to my next visit.

The location is a bit of the way off the path. The spa amenities were okay, their steam, sauna, outdoor area, and hot tub were a bit small. But the services were great, I had the from Sweden to Tibet and Back and it was amazing. It was a little high priced for what you get as well. I would recommend if you have the money and are making a day of it, but not just for one service.

I flew in for a last-​minute weekend visit to Austin to spend time with an old friend. I managed to see a picture of the barn pool on instagram and decided Lake Austin Spa was pretty much exactly how I needed to spend my Monday afternoon.
I phoned the resort and was able to book my services immediately with the help of a very nice desk agent. I arrived at the spa and was impressed with the décor and helpfulness of the staff immediately. The locker room was well kept, the blue room was amazingly beautiful and my service staff was great. I booked the half day spa package (swedish massage, custom facial, and four-​course lunch) and was never once disappointed.
I spent the afternoon resting on the hammocks by the river and enjoying both the barn and outdoor pools.
This place is a gem right outside of the city. It was worth every second of my Monday and so much more. I sincerely wish there was something of this caliber in my native Kentucky.

Lake Austin Spa was incredible today. The best part was my deep tissue custom massage with Toby. That man needs a raise. I have a high stress job and lift weights so he was able to hit all the important spots. Highly recommend the packages offered. Thank you!

I went here for a bachelorette party and got an $ 80 French manicure that was literally the worst I’ve ever received. They didn’t have comfortable chairs – we sat on a bench with pillows instead of arm rests. They didn’t have foot spas. They barely de-​calloused my feet. And the painting itself left a lot to be desired. So disappointing. I literally could have done a better job myself at home with my own tools.
The pools are really nice, the grounds are beautiful, and the food is «good.» The rooms are very very small and very very expensive. Totally not worth it.

The spa service was great… But the food was lacking… The place was messy (empty cups and dirty towels everywhere that no one cared to pick up, pool needed skimming, burnt out light bulbs, empty ice bin that never got refilled… I could go on all night!) but for the prices we paid for «facility use» I expected more customer service in the form of servers and pool attendants… Since we were there to relax, it would have been nice if everything was not self service. I’ve had much better service at a Hilton garden inn! The staff seemed to enjoy hanging by the front counter gossiping… All in all I was disappointed.

Just returned from a 5 nite stay at Lake Austin Spa Resort (my first was several years ago). It was every bit as lovely as I remembered. Unfortunately the weather was unusually cold, which made getting from here to there taxing (especially from the pool barn), but otherwise, everything was fantastic! I did gentle yoga, dancing with the stars (fun!!), 6 water aerobics classes (loved Monica’s water Tabata and belly classes!), the 3.5 mile hike (challenging but worth it), intro to tai chi… lovely work out room, tho i only used once because i was so busy with classes and spa appointments… I can’t leave out the fabulous food! The food was even better than i remembered – and i remembered it was good. Yes, portions are much smaller than we normally eat, but we eat too much normally!!! And you can order more than one item if you want! The lobster tartine was my favorite lunch item, grilled sea scallops on sweet potato purée for dinner… Perfect! At the spa café, the chili was fantastic and wild mushroom flatbread was a mushroom lover’s dream… I love dessert and was delighted every day – frozen yogurts for lunch and a variety of options with dinner. (Calorie content not provided for dessert– they were NOT lo-​cal!!). On departure day, they packed the most decadent brownies to go– a yummy fudgey brownie topped with a layer of fluffy peanut butter cream, finished with a thin layer of chocolate to hold it in place. My favorite dessert was the cinnamon bread pudding – it rivals any bread pudding and most desserts I ever had!!! Chef Stephane is a world class chef!!! He is very passionate about his food and the loves shows!!!
I look forward to returning again when the weather is warmer and we can really enjoy the entire property, the outdoor pools, lake activities, and so on… this is an intimate resort which adds to the enjoyment of the guests… It is rather pricey but everything (but wine or beer) is included, so you know what your trip will cost (unless you exceed your spa allowance, but you are in control of that)…wonderful…tough to leave…

I spent the day here with my friend while visiting from California in June of 2014. The facility is very tranquil. We walked around the spa in our robes and felt comfortable and relaxed. We spent time in the jacuzzi and indoor swimming pool prior to our treatments.
I had a facial, my esthetician was excellent. My skin was glowing afterwards. After our individual treatments my friend and I spent time on the covered porch and then ate lunch in the café. The food was just okay and overpriced for what you get.
After lunch we walked around the grounds, which are gorgeous. There is a hammock on the lake that you can use, everything is so green and well maintained. This place was so relaxing, I didn’t want to leave. I can’t wait to return!

It was my first time in a spa, a gift from my best friend for my graduation. I just loved this place! We stayed in our robes all day, just chilling by the pool and the saunas. The staff is awesome, very friendly and polite. I had a body massage called «The Best of the Southwest» and it was AMAZING!!! The massage therapist was very calm and she surely took her time pampering me (I only think that she could speak less so that I could take a nap, lol). I also had a 50 minutes facial called «Blueberry Restorative» and it was lovely and relaxing!!! Yes, I could get used to the pampering treatments from Lake Austin Spa Resort.

I’m definitely a huge fan of spas and have had my fair share of experience with some of the best spas around the world. The grounds of this place are quite beautiful and relaxing. I also really enjoyed the fact that a steam room and hot tub are located inside the ladies locker room.
That said, I find it hard to believe that this is the #1 spa in Texas. I felt that the massage I received was just average and did not warrant the hefty price tag. Although, my main issue was with their restaurant. If you’re going to charge 5 star prices I expect 5 star quality food. I’ve been to this spa four times and the food was mediocre at best each visit. I’m not even sure if they have an actual kitchen because everything tasted pre made.
I would’ve loved a fresh and delicious meal after an afternoon of relaxation and sun. Hopefully management takes this into consideration and ups their food game soon!

Great place to take a break and hang out in a robe all day with your girlfriends. The pool is on the small side and can get crowded on weekends. If you can try to go there on a weekday.
The services provided provided are not anything out of the ordinary and the food is just okay. My favorite treatment is the olive my love. I had tried a facial there and did not enjoy them using an old clarisonic brush that has been used on previous guests and something I can do at home myself. They also ended the session with putting mineral powder on my face which felt gross and defeats the purpose of the facial.

Still 5 star worthy!
It’s been a few years since my last visit but they haven’t skipped a beat.
This is a «must do» while I’m in ATX. My experience here every time just grounds me. It’s incredibly relaxing and employees are attentive. Booked a facial this time around and my skin looked great afterward.
I want to live here. Permanently.

First I’d like to point out that despite being in my mid to late 30s, this was my first «real» spa experience. The grounds are beautiful, as is the facility. It’s upscale, very peaceful and relaxing. I had a massage as well as a facial. The massage was truly fantastic. I enjoyed every moment and didn’t want it to end. The facial on the other hand — hmmm. Again, my first facial, and I didn’t know what to expect. If you love facials, than perhaps this is a wonderful experience. For me, it was just okay.
My favorite part was the facility itself. There is an outdoor shower, pool, hot tub, steam room and café. Really wonderful.
I don’t know if I will be back soon as it is ridiculously expensive, but perhaps in a year or so I would return.

Actually went here with a friend of mine for a half day package. I was very happy with my pregnancy massage but I was surprised with the food and the lack of quality. The half day package includes lunch and I didn’t like mine. They had soup of the day, and a salad or guacamole. Then they had a variety of entrees And dessert was a choice between a two sorbets. Very boring food!
My treatment which was the pregnancy massage was amazing! My therapist, Cindy Howard, was incredible! She is so knowledgeable and so sweet and was so gentle. I enjoyed every second!!! Highly recommend her. Her hands were so amazing.
I then had a radiance facial which was very good too. My therapist squeaky cleaned my face. :)
Services were good but the rooms were ok. Nothing extraordinary. For the services id definitely go back but I wouldn’t do he half day thing.

After a brief but stunning tour of gorgeous Lake Austin Spa, I was ready to take my clothes off! Yeah! For a massage, of course. And when Nancy, my massage therapist, told me she loved Guy Fieri, I knew I had a winner. She kneaded me like a piece of raw meat sitting on Guy’s counter. I was stretched, rubbed and tenderized to a point of mind numbing ecstasy. Nancy also taught me a wonderful, healing stretch for my tush that I will most likely use forever.
I next ventured into the «Blue Room» to read a bit and then outside for a walk. In my bathrobe. The staff recommends this. We all looked like Druids walking around in our bathrobes dazed after a massage or other wonderful treatment. The grounds are spectacular! I strolled through flowers and trees. Viewed the splendid lawn that cascades to Lake Austin. Walked through several arbors.
Later, my «Heavenly Hydration» pedicure was accomplished by Melissa. It was sensuous with special scrubs (I opted for the lavender and another woodsy scent) and creams. The chairs are extremely comfortable, relaxing music fills your ears and there is a view of a lovely garden within the resort. Isn’t it fun to discuss restaurants and places to go with a perfect stranger who becomes a spa friend? That’s what I call a meaningful pedicure.
This was a loving gift from Hubby which included a delicious four course lunch. I feasted on grape and watermelon gazpacho, avocado salad, gluten free BBQ chicken pizza and raspberry sorbet. The final touch from the spa was a complimentary makeup application which is provided with all half day visits. Can I move in?

Resort Stay/​Overnight Guest: What a awesome place! I had the pleasure of spending five days and four nights at the resort in September 2012. It totally exceeded my expectations. There were tons of activities for overnight guests, beautiful scenery, delicious food and friendly staff. I connected with several instructors, staff members and other guests.
From the moment I checked in until the time of check out I felt relaxed, pampered and valued.
The room was cozy and peaceful. And the turndown service so special! The curtains and lighting were dimmed, soft music was turned on and you were left with an affirmation card each evening. You also were left with a robe and water. You were given a pair of slippers upon arrival and they were my shoes of choice the entire stay.
The resort offers so many amenities, including indoor and outdoor activities. There are several reading rooms where you can read a book. You also have the option to take a book or leave a book. There is a herb garden. You can take items home with you from the garden.
The meals are offered in several areas on the property, but the main dining area is exclusively for overnight guests. It changes daily and the offerings would suit any palette. The menu includes the caloric count for all items. While soft drinks and wine are not encouraged, they are available for purchase. There is a friendship table which is such a neat concept.
The spa was also great. Plenty of options and great hours. I fell in love with this place and am planning a return in the near future. This place deserves to be highly ranked.

I’m surprised at the mixed reviews there are about Lake Austin Spa Resort. I’m kind of glad I didn’t read it before my trip this weekend because I had a great time. I would give it 5 stars but this place IS expensive. But seriously, overall experience is worth 5 stars.
First of all, 5 star location. The location of this spa right by the lake was very peaceful and serene. It was hard not to just stand outside and take in the beautiful scenery that surrounds you. As you check in, you are given a water bottle so you can refill the bottle with water at their gym, or many water stations in the common areas rather than using plastic bottles; very eco-​friendly (not to mention they have rolled up towels in the bathrooms rather than paper towels).
The staff here are really friendly and I especially loved the teachers that taught the classes there. During my stay I took zumba, dynamic yoga/​pilates, dancing to the stars and the hike around the lake. Sharon taught the zumba and dynamic yoga class and I really liked her. She’s so energetic and friendly. I would also highly recommend the dynamic yoga class for beginners such as myself. I really enjoyed it.
5 star accommodation: The rooms were very comfortable for two, and the double closets were perfect! The bathtub etc everything in the room was great. You even get your own mini fridge.
5 star spa: The spa is sooooo peaceful there. I love it. You have the usual steam room, jaccuzzi, and sauna room to use before your appointment. The entire facility was extremely clean, and there are lots of towels for you everywhere you go! Also, complimentary water and some nuts and dried fruits in the «blue room» (waiting room where you wait for your appointment). One day I had the Coffee Scrub Massage and I LOVED IT! I loved the smell (huge coffee drinker) and the lady helping me (I believe her name was Nan) was fantastic! The following day I had the Swedish massage, but nothing special so I would say, don’t waste your money on this one.
The only thing that shocked me a bit was the food. The flavors were great, but because it is organic and health conscious, the portions were smaller than what you are accustomed to, and I felt like there was barely any carbs. The breads were all very oat-​y and nutty. It caught me by surprise the first night, but I eventually learned to appreciate the food and the effort it took for them to cook such healthy meals everyday. The complimentary teas, lemonade and water in the dining area all day long were nice.
I feel like I can go on and on about this place because I did enjoy my stay here but I think I should leave it to you to experience it yourself.
Just know that I would definitely recommend to people who want to detox, or get in shape or just relax and vacation from a place away from everything else.
(last note: they use lavender EVERYTHING here so this whole place smells great! The soaps, the shampoos, even the prepared towels at the spa in the ice bath… =))
