We specialize in high-​end landscape design and installation. Our company has 11+ years of experience in the Austin area. Our highly educated crew and staff make the landscape design and installation experience easy and enjoyable. «We are a one stop shop» offering maintenance, welding, masonry, carpentry, lighting both functional and artistic, pool design, sculpture and make ready for events, floral arrangements etc. the list goes on. We’ve done it all and done it all well enough to get all 5 star ratings. You should audition us. We’d love to develop another long term relationship.

History

Established in 2006.

I pretty much started this business by accident. I set out to just do what I love which is creating nice outdoor spaces in hopes of one day building a sculpture for the space. I was meticulous about every aspect of the process eg: light, shadows, movement, structure, surrounding architecture and most importantly reflecting the clients personality. I worked alone for the first couple months and then needed to call on buddies to take a 4 day weekend to help me complete an install. Then before I knew it very satisfied clients spread the word like wildfire and for the past 8+ years now we’ve employed on average 20 people year round.

We’ve expanded our repertoire to include, but not limited to: maintenance, pool design, lighting design and install, masonry, carpentry, welding, water features (huge and small), indoor and outdoor sculptures, indoor floral arrangements and so on. Almost no job is too small but the properties we service typically range from $ 350k-​$ 18million.

I attended Parsons School of Design in NYC where I studied metal sculpture. I soon realized that the landscape a sculpture was exhibited in was just as important as the sculpture itself. So I set out with it in mind that I would create tranquil spaces suitable for relaxing and enjoying art. I then took it a bit further and started creating art out of the earth itself. I use a lot of topography, natural boulders, existing timbers and water to create a space to live and entertain in. Eventually, the dream came full circle when clients started asking for us to build sculptures for the spaces we had created.

I started this business alone with a $ 500 truck and a few rusty tools. I gave it my all on every install no matter how small and the referrals started pouring in. We have still never advertised. All of our business is due to word of mouth. I have to say I could not do any of this without my Stellar Crew and landscape architect Joe Lenz who does our CAD and admin work.

I hate to be the first to leave a negative review, but it is needed. I left an online query at the website in late May and was very impressed when John himself called me back within 45 minutes of my posting. He stopped by my home was very professional and had several valuable insights on what he envisioned with our property. I was excited to move forward and contacted John about a week later expressing our wishes to hire his company for landscape design services. He would have his foreman Josh contact us to do a site walk within the week. It took a full week before we heard from Josh but did not think much of it as we were sure they were very busy. Josh stopped by a few days later and asked pertinent questions and our budget for the project. We knew our budget was probably pretty low compared with what was needed but we were willing to do the scape in stages.
Fast forward a month. No further contact from the company. I left a message for John. A few more weeks go by and no further information. I call the office and leave another message seeking an update. I finally receive a call from a Joe (?) that he had emailed a quote that I did not receive. I called him back and left a message to confirm my email address (which he had incorrect).
I received the email that evening. The quote was to tear up our yard. Almost literally. My issue: no information on what or where this destruction was occurring. If a crew were to come to my house, where was I to direct them? Then, how long would it be before there would be some sort is design set up? I was uncomfortable with having some random part of our yard torn up (front? Back? what plants stay or go?) and not having been presented with any form of what would replace the now absent plant life? I emailed back with my questions and concerns. It has been a month and I have received no response via email or telephone. I can only assume there is no interest in fulfilling any part of my hopes for a peaceful Eden through JGD.

I contracted with John Garrett Design for a $ 50,000+ landscaping job at a newly purchased home. The project included relocating existing plants, installing lighting, laying rocks, planting various new plants, moving electric wiring, and laying new grass.
The work that they did was very good, with the exception of a few bamboo plants that I had prior to the service, which we transplanted to another place on the property. The plants died, so I would recommend contracting with them to come out periodically after the service to make sure that the irrigation levels are appropriate.
Positives are they bring professional staff with experience, move quickly, are very creative, and competent.
We had a dispute with billing, but when John became aware, he called me and made sure it was resolved in a way that was satisfactory. He offered several paths for me to resolve the dispute and I felt he was trying to protect a reference and generate customer loyalty.

John and his crew are awesome– hard working, on time, take pride in their work and really listen. I needed someone to help me with landscape design and he came up with something beyond my imagination– I am in love with the final outcome and my water feature!!! Love!!! I have referred him to several friends for jobs both big and small and he has handled each with upmost professionalism and care. Highly recommend!

John Garrett is not only an amazing landscape designer but his crew is also hard working and knowledgeable. We hired John to update our very out dated landscape design. I never knew how good our house could look. Thanks to John and his crew we now have that «wow» factor! The stone work was impeccable and the drought tolerant, deer resistant plants look modern and beautiful giving our house the updated look that it so needed. The icing on the cake is the auto fill water feature which now brings peace and serenity to our home. John and his crew were great to work with, showing up on time, answering questions along the way, and finishing up on budget! If you get a chance to higher these guys, I wouldn’t hesitate to do so

This is who you want to hire. John and his crews are a couple of cuts above the rest on all counts. Creative design, incredible knowledge of a wide variety of unique plants, what works where, etc, excellent efficient work, dependable, pleasant. You have to open your wallet a bit, but the years of pleasure I have received from what they have given me is priceless, never mind the added value to my home. Great company, great people all around.
