John French and his crew are awesome. Very nice and thorough. They did a great job on my floors. They even did demolition. I would definitely recommend Decorative Concrete to anyone. A must use for stained concrete.

John did a beautiful job with the concrete staining of our spare bedroom and I am so happy with how awesome it looks.

I have to say… John French’s work ethic and honesty when dealing with my sisters flooding in Wimberley was refreshing.
My sister’s floors were damaged in the Wimberley flooding a couple of months back and after pulling out some of the carpets we noticed the floors were damaged quite badly. I called John and he was dead honest about when he would be able to come out to Wimberley and give an estimate, as well as providing us with an approximate time line for work to be started and completed.
He came out to Wimberley and gave an estimate and explained to my sister about clearing the floors and completing the work. She had wanted work done in rooms that weren’t flood damaged, and John explained that it might be better if the work was done all at once as the stains would then match and look continuous throughout the house. John gave a reasonable quote for the entire house and explained there was no need for her to remove the carpet tack strips, as he had the equipment to do all of that quite easily. She agreed to a price and began moving her things into a storage POD so he could begin work.
John brought his crew on New Years Day, even though a holiday, and started removing the remaining carpet… carpet tack strips and damaged flooring. John and his crew worked quickly completing the entire house in 3 days and that included ripping up bad flooring… taping off walls… laying a coat of concrete… staining the concrete and sealing. My sister chose a black stain which looked really nice with the style house she has as well as complimented the white walls.
We found John to be contentious about his work and mindful about listening to what my sister wanted. He was also understanding of the stress involved in moving her belongings out of her house and seemed to want to finish quickly so that she could get resettled back into her house.
The only regret my sister seemed to have was stressing over the flood damage way too long before calling and getting a quote from John. Once John was on board, the entire process including moving her things in and out of her house took less than a week, and her floors look fantastic. We have dealt with contractors and workmen in the past and have been disappointed, as it has been commonplace that they begin work and rarely finish it completely. This was simply not the case with John, he began the work and pushed for he and his crew to begin and finish quality work in a more than timely manner.

John explained the process for my 500 sq/​ft porch: power-​wash, apply epoxy, self-​leveling concrete overlay with a smooth finish, then stain and seal. The porch was not washed and no epoxy coating applied. A very thin coat of a runny product was being hand-​troweled over the dirty porch. I was given the option to go back to the original plan/​product, but he told me he did not recommend this. I was confused about the product switch but agreed to move forward. I had to insist the porch be washed; how could anything bond to a layer of dirt? The relationship was quickly going downhill.
The troweled overlay had bubbles, leaving large bumps, which I was told would be sanded down. The bubbles could not be sanded. We moved on to staining. I was not thrilled with the color, but it was my choice, so we moved on. Sealer was applied and then another coat right after. He immediately asked for payment. I was disappointed, but willing to live with it, so I made full payment, including extra for an additional stain color.
Later that day, I noticed runs in the sealer. Way too much sealer had been applied and now there were puddles of dried sealer in the middle of the porch. I called, sent emails and texts and two weeks later received an email informing me the sealer runs had been fixed. The porch looked even worse. Another coat of sealer had been applied right over muddy footprints, and now there were even more runs. More calls, texts and emails. Finally an email reply. But rather than apologize for the crappy job, he went on about how much money he had spent and there was nothing else he would do.
He chose to use a different product (maybe an inferior product, who knows). If the job was not bid correctly, that’s not on me. I am left with a mess. There are many options for stained concrete work, I hope this review helps others make a better choice.

The Ugly Side of our #AustinFixer Story
I’m writing this review, because I wish someone had written one for us. My hope is that it saves someone else a lot of headache, heartache, and frankly, a lot of money.
We’d finally purchased a fixer-​upper in our dream location. Since the previous owners had a dog, and our son is allergic, having all of the flooring replaced was a high priority. We decided to do stained concrete throughout.
We Googled and Unilocaled to research businesses and get estimates. We received a prompt call back from John French, who seemed excited about the whole concrete flooring process. He explained everything thoroughly, his price seemed fair, and his website and reviews were impressive.
He described the process — first a self-​leveling overlay, then stain, then seal. We chose a color called «Golden Wheat» and entrusted the flooring in our entire house to John’s care. The overlay looked good as far as we could tell, and the day he started the staining, we received a disturbing report. When I spoke with John French on the phone, he said didn’t like the way the stain was turning out, and he decided, without consulting us, to apply a «micro-​topping» throughout the house. I was furious — I had never heard of a «micro-​topping» and it was NOT part of our agreement. It sounded like a horrible idea — putting a thin layer of something on top of our floors? It sounded fragile, and wrong.
And then we saw our floors.
The color «Golden Wheat» is supposed to be tan-​like. Our house was full of dark orange and brownish-​green floors. The texture had deep, scary trowel-​marks. John called it «character» but we called it horrific. Raised white streaks from the water-​based sealer covered sections of flooring. John said they’d fade in a week with foot traffic, but that did not happen. Those streaks were PART of our floors.
One could tell which side of the house the «micro-​topping» was applied to first, because those rooms were more even in texture… but as you walked from one side of the house to the next, the floors were a wreck, even chipping in spots because it appeared that John had run short on materials. Swirl-​marks, hardened raised drips, rough spots sharp enough to cut your foot… even literal bare footprints (you could count the toes) and deep-​set heel prints (when someone must have put their shoes back on) were visible throughout the rooms. I need not elaborate more, as the photos speak to French’s workmanship.
We didn’t pay John in full — he offered to come and «fix» the floors to receive the full price we’d initially agreed upon. He suggested another layer of micro-​topping, and demanded the additional payment BEFORE he started the work. We said no way, and were asked by John whether we trusted him??? We paid for a storage unit and emptied our entire house of all the belongings we had just moved in, calling other concrete companies to come and see the condition of our floors. Applying more of the layer that we did not approve of from the start seemed very wrong to us.
One rep came to our home and said he’d never seen floors in such horrible shape. He said, I never did floors like this on my FIRST day or my WORST DAY! Another rep said the materials on top of our floors were completely overworked, there was not enough material applied, and that the whole thing was just wrong. When we said the floors were only a month old, one rep said he thought they were 20 years old, because of their condition and their complete lack of sheen. They ALL said the only remedy was to have ALL of John French’s work completely removed, get back down to our slab, and start over. All 2^nd-​opinion companies said they had either had to RE-​DO John French’s work for other people in the past, or that they had removed John French’s name as a reputable concrete flooring guy a long time ago. They said when folks do work like this, it’s bad for the concrete flooring business in general. Finally, all of these folks said John French owed us a FULL REFUND for ruining our floors.
We pursued a refund from John French. WE WERE IGNORED BY JOHN FRENCH. Thankfully, we had another company come through and completely save us from this nightmare for a very fair price. CALL THEM! In 3 days, Just Concrete Floors removed all of John French’s work, poured a fresh overlay, stained and sealed our floors correctly and beautifully. John French’s continued excuse (he would swear to it to this day) was that he didn’t have enough time to do our floors well before our move-​in date. It took John French 9 days to ruin our floors, and Just Concrete Floors 3 days to undo John’s disastrous work and make our entire house beautiful! Do you homework… John French has several different business names. I am attempting to post this review on the ones I have found, but I can’t be sure I have found them all. John came out to re-​do my patio and pool area after Paul Contreras left me in a lurch. John had to go a shade darker to cover the Tic Tac Toe design left from PC’s work but I was pleased with the outcome. John was on time and completed the job as promised. In fact John was able to stain my job in between doing a birthday party for his son. John was very careful to mask for overspray around the house, the spa and space between the walking areas around the pool. The pics show a before and after view. The overspray that is seen is a left over from Paul’s work and not John’s.
John is very fair on his price and will give you an exact quote without any changes, unlike Paul!

Originally I had a 2200 sq ft patio that was chip from roofing tiles. It had the leftovers of a seal and a stain that looked more like puddles of rust. John came in and told me the facts that the other co. avoided. Scratches needed an overlay and then new stain. His price was basically cost on the overlay to just make sure that I didn’t feel hustled. After the second coat of seal was put on it look like something from Hollywood. Him and his team were awesome. Other than rain days they didn’t miss until it was finished including weekends. I’ll be recommending them to everyone!
