Cothron’s Safe and Lock

I called on Monday of this week and Madonna was able to get me on the schedule for the next day. The guys who came out to move the heavy 4-​drawer file box were courteous and very careful moving the file box over the hardwood floors. Madonna «made my day» by scheduling the guys to come such that I was also able to go to my volunteer job. THANKS Madonna!

I have to come here often to make copies of keys for my job. The guys are always super quick and efficient at this location. Every key I have had copied works with no problems. If you are looking for fast, friendly, and courteous employees then you found the place. They’ve even had to come on site to service the locks on our doors at both of our restaurants, and like I’ve said once again, awesome work. Support your local businesses.

These guys are AMAZING ! Got up this morning and my back door, which was locked, wouldn’t unlock ! Called at 8:00 when they opened, service tech was here by 9:30 and it took about 5 minutes to replace the latch — no new lock needed ! HIGHLY recommend them !

Cothron’s got an antique secretary of my mother-in-law’s open in 15 minutes! This is after another locksmith had spent 2 hours trying to get it open, and finally suggested cutting the hinges off! I would have given them 5 stars, except it took 2 trips. I think better communication between the office and workmen would fix that! Thank you Cothron’s!

I needed two deadbolt door locks rekeyed in a rental house. Called Cothron’s on Wed, got a Friday am appt. Friday morning waned, so I called about 10:30 and asked when I was booked, and was told I was next. About 30 minutes later, the locksmith arrived. He was professional, friendly and very competent. It took less than 20 minutes, and I still made my noon appt somewhere else. Total charges was way less than quoted by another «local» locksmith. I’ve returned repeatedly to Cothron’s over the last decade and was always delighted with their service and professionalism. And yes, they are Austin local!

Called Cothron’s for a bedroom lockout which was not an emergency call. The locksmith Clayton showed up as scheduled, opened the door and made a couple of keys, and also helped out with a minor problem with another door. Excellent service. Recommended.

Great customer service! I came here with a key a bought on
after losing my master car key while tubing. The key was about $ 50, and then they were able to program the chip to my car for $ 50. Such a better deal than going to the dealership or other options. They were very patient and helpful, will be getting all my keys cut here in the future.

Cothron’s are real locksmiths.
I initially called another «locksmith» with apparent five star reviews on Unilocal.They delivered a kid to basically break into my house with a screwdriver and crowbar and some weird pneumatic paddles. After 15 minutes of this kid prying and scratching on the jamb, I called Cothron’s again and discovered they have an after hours locksmith on call.
Cothron’s arrived within the hour and it took them 30 seconds to open my door.
btw, if the first thing your «locksmith» does upon arriving at your house is check for unlocked windows, he’s not a real locksmith. I now know there are definitely locksmith scammers gaming Unilocal to generate business in Austin. If I ever find myself locked out again, I’ll call Cothron’s first.

I’ve lived in Austin since 1972 and this should have been my locksmith for a long time. I got copies of my RV keys, they programed my keyless remote I bought online (it failed the included instructions) … and made copies of my truck key. ALL this cost less than one truck key I got made at the dealership. Instead of dissing the dealership price, they explained that it was probably worth it to have one «Factory direct» key that I keep as a low wear «master» for the truck. Great attitude!!!

Next time I will start at Cothron’s and save myself the running around.
I needed to get a copy of my house key and my truck’s key made. I started at Walmart where they copied the house key without issue, but said they couldnt do my car key. They suggested I try Home Depot or some local spot called Cothron’s. Never heard of the latter, so I headed off to the next big box emporium.
I arrived at Home Depot to be told, they would also be unable to duplicate my truck key, but I should try the shop Cothron’s close by.
I google’d Cothron’s, and was there in minutes (pretty non-​descript from the street, I almost passed it!). Once I got in, I was taken care of right away and I had duplicate key in about 15 minutes with no issues! Great service, super fast, and have had no issues so far.
They will be my FIRST stop the next time I have to make copies of keys or need something keyed. They also had some very impressive safes in there as well, that I would check out if I was in the market. Great local business

We had been recommended to use Cothron’s to update all of our locks on our new house. I contacted them, spoke to a wonderful service lady, who arranged for a specialized locksmith to come out within a reasonable time frame. Had to pay a $ 50 credit for the service call that would then be applied to my order. This was the best part of my experience.
Locksmith came out, he was great onsite, said he would have some suggestions and a quote by the end of two business days. Didn’t hear from him. I called him 1 week later to ask about the quote, was informed that there were some issues with the supplier, some questions about the locks and inserts he was going to recommend, and he was waiting for schematic measurements before he could complete the quote. Said he would call me back the next day.
Not having heard from them, I call back ANOTHER WEEK LATER. Same response, however, was then given a quote the following day. I had asked for two different quotes, only received one. Asked for the second quote, was told it would be there next day. You guessed it — NADA.
So, I emailed the website, explained my situation, told them I was going to use a different company, and wanted them to know my experience because somewhere in the company there was an issue. Received a call from the GM the next morning, wanting to help, to fix. Told me he had my locksmith, the dispatch, and himself in a meeting that morning to discuss my order. Wanted to know if I was comfortable still working with the same locksmith, or he would switch him off the job. I said I was fine, I just wanted my quotes…
Later that day, got both quotes, apologies. I emailed back immediate questions regarding the quotes. And then I waited. One day. Two days. Three days. Emailed again. Dispatch said they would be coming. Nothing. So… I called their competitor — Advanced Lock Solutions — Mike placed my order that day, three days later the locks had arrived, were installed, and were $ 600 CHEAPER than Cothron’s.
I emailed Cothron’s, told them to cancel all quotes, to refund my $ 50, and never heard a thing from them since. I wasted 2 months waiting on quotes and locks, never heard anything back from them, and never really got the quotes I paid them $ 50 for. Ridonkulous. RIDONKULOUS!

My girlfriend broke her key in the ignition and these guys were able to replicate it somehow. He was kind enough not to charge us because of uncertainty as to whether or not it would work. I was absolutely floored by their customer service. This is the place to go if you want something done right. Can’t recommend these guys enough.

Started at Home Depot and they did not have it, so Home Depot Employee suggested Cothrons.
I never can find my keys so I quickly had it it done early.

My only car key was about to snap off and wasn’t able to open the doors or ignition. I had first tried both Walmart and Home Depot but were unsuccessful. I took it to David at Cothrons’s and he gave it a once over before attempting a copy. It was a strange make and he was surprised my copy had worked for so long. He came out with a new one and said «No charge. Think of it as a trial copy.»
I will definitely go back for more business as I will go to get another copy of that key and more. Real great service.

I was referred to Cothron’s to cut my car key by the local hardware store that only does house keys. They quickly copied my 2005 Toyota key to the blank key that I bought online at Amazon for my model of car. The key was about five bucks and had about fifty positive reviews of people who seemed to use them with success. I transferred the button electronics piece and transponder chip to the new key. The key works well and I will be back for another copy soon.

Had 4 exterior doors re-​keyed by Cothron’s. They were very polite on the phone, provided a quick and accurate estimate, showed up when they promised, finished the job quickly and professionally and took great care not to do any damage in the process of re-​keying my locks. I am very satisfied and this will be the only company I will call for any future locksmithing needs.

After reading the great reviews for this business I decided to give it a try. The moment I walked into the store both David and Bret met me at the counter. Bret took my request to get two keys for a door lock that I brought with me and several keys that I needed duplicated. Bret took my lock and David took my keys. Within minutes I had two keys for my door lock and copies of keys. Price was very resonable, service was excellent and Bret said if I had any problems to just come on back and he would take care of it. All of the keys worked and I was able to put the door lock back together. I really couldn’t ask for more from a business. This is one more reason why I like to buy local from a speciality business and not a big box store!

If you are looking to move a safe in Austin, Texas … literally, there is no other choice.
Originally, we used them to move our safe from downtown to our new house in Lakeway and they were incredible! They gave us a very reasonable estimate, showed up on time and treated the safe like it was their own.
Just today, they came back to install another safe. I ordered it directly from the factory and the shipping company left it at the curb. A 805 pound safe just sitting at the curb. I realized this only yesterday when I got a call from the moving company and called them in a panic. They worked us into their already booked schedule and again provided excellent service.
