Cody Pools

I decided to go with Cody Pools because they really sold me on quality over quantity. 3 years in I have had nothing but problems with all of my pool equipment. It is like pulling teeth to get them to honor warranty work and none of it has ever been fixed properly. Pretty sure they are putting a band-​aid on the problems until warranty runs out and they can wash their hands of it. My neighbors went with a different pool company, got a lot more pool for their money and have experienced very few issues (built at the exact same time as mine). I feel like I was totally scammed by Cody Pools.
I echo what others have posted about the horrible mess they made of my yard. All my neighbors commented on how much more of a mess it was than need be.

A couple of things I would share about our whole pool experience before I give my review. The price per surface foot is pretty much the same for all pool builders so make sure you are comparing like sizes. We were one of the first pools built by Cody Pools in the San Antonio area back in 2008 and for the most part been pretty satisfied. I think they were still lining up all the subcontractors in our area so some parts of there work were substandard. It didn’t help that half way through the build our superintendent was reassigned to another job and the new one didn’t quite give the same level of comfort. Your biggest hurdle will be Cody does not support the product after your warranty period is up. You will find navigating your way through this world can be expensive. We had an ongoing electrical issue that points directly back to the panel Cody had installed was done improperly and $ 1500.00 later I hope we are good.

Cody Pools did a great job on our pool and we’re very happy with the results. We met with a guy named Frank to design our pool and he did us a huge favor in telling us to wait until Tom could manage our pool project. Tom was awesome and I would ask for him if going with Cody Pools. Tom overcame obstacles, was professional and continually went above and beyond to make sure the project went smoothly. Frank also recommended Southern Outdoor Appeal to build our two decks for the pool and we didn’t have a good experience with them or we’d give them 5 stars. I would recommend Cody Pools to anyone.

I spoke with many different pool companies before choosing Cody. There were two other companies that came out to my house, talked about design and never called me back after. I worked with Steve on the sales side and he was great. We went through several design phases, a redesign due to the City of Austin right-​of-​way and he was great through it all. We absolutely love the design.
Severo was our project manager and was on top of every aspect of the construction. They accommodated changes along the way and were very helpful with permitting. I highly recommend Cody Pools, Steve and Severo.

Made an appointment for somebody to come out to give us a bid. My husband and I left work early and completely rearranged our schedules. No show!!! Not happy!!!

Cody is doing a pool down the street from me on Castellano Way in the Bella Vista subdivision. On the first 2 days there was dirt and rocks all over the street in front of the house and they just expect cars to drive through it I guess. After their lame «cleanup» effort there is still plenty of dirt in the street 4 days later. With rain in the forecast this whole stretch of street is going to be a big mess which means my cars and driveway and garage will all be a mess because of Cody Pools.

I am in the middle of a pool project with Cody pools right now and would not recommend them. They were the highest bid by far but you justify it by «you get what you pay for».
I know there will always be issues and we went into it fully expecting that we would have our share. I won’t go into all of the ups and downs but I certainly was not prepared for a 3 ½ week delay because they built the spa too small so had to demo that part of the pool/​spa and start over. My family was looking forward to at least being able to use the pool for the tail end of the season but no chance of that now. The bigger issue is that we are tired of living in a construction zone; our neighbors are tired of our yard being totally destroyed; our dog not being able to go in the backyard; etc; etc.
Cody talks a big game about their higher quality standards, more professional service, etc, I don’t see any evidence of that. At the end of the day, they still have sub-​contractors that do shoddy plumbing work, gunite crews that get backed up and don’t show, crews that sit on your porch smoking cigarettes, etc, etc. If they don’t manage those crews and set higher expectations then it really doesn’t matter how good they tell you they are. I will update my post upon completion but at this point I can say that if I had to start over today I would definitely not use Cody Pools.
9÷30÷2014 Update — I was out of town for a full 7 days and nothing was worked on. Before I left I pointed out that there was supposed to be a two foot thick wall where there was only a 6 inch gap. No progress on that issue or any of the rest of the project for 9 days. Today they finally sent a crew out to cut the plumbing connections and patch the pipes up. This is the second time they have cut these pipes and patched them up. I’m concerned at this point about of the plumbing job.
My latest experience is just further evidence of my points made previously.

We have had THE BEST experience with Cody Pools. The customer service is first class. When we had an issue (that we caused ourselves) right before July 4^th, they came out and fixed it last minute so that we could enjoy the pool over the holiday. Everyone we have dealt with is professional and courteous.

I decided to write a review because nobody from Cody ever asked. I assume that since they didn’t ask, they really don’t care. Overall, we are happy with our pool. Mike our designer developed exactly what we wanted. He was easy to work with and made revisions to the design quickly and easily. Our pool was a fairly «basic» pool, and this is actually our second pool so we knew what to expect. My complaints are related to the construction management process. It is important to note that where we live there is absolutely no rock — not even a pebble, so excavation was as simple as it could be. We also had a fairly large lot, the only challenge was that there was only 8 feet between us and our neighbors house.
So — now my issue (and keep in mind this is not my first pool). They really-​really wrecked my yard and much more than they needed too. When we built our last pool, the builder was careful to tightly contain the excavation material and trash. This time, Cody really-​really spread out and left the trash and debris from all phases of construction on site until the very last week. The place looked like a wreck. We had to re-​sod an excessive area that just kept getting bigger and bigger.
When they did the final «clean up» they spread a lot of the leftover debris and trash and lightly covered it with topsoil. Keep in mind that our soil that was excavated didn’t have a single rock. But Cody dropped and left a ton of gravel, broken rocks, cement, etc. There was also string, bottles, rebar, 2x4s — you name it. they just spread it and then tried to hide it with a little dirt. Then it rained — and uncovered all the trash they left. And since they didn’t — I went around raking and picking up debris they left.
And finally, our project had retaining walls. Instead of backfilling them from the bottom up; they scraped some rocks across the top and then topped with dirt. What does this mean. Well — the first rain washed it out and now I have huge holes that I have to backfill each time it rains. I’m sure someday it will eventually fill in.
Throughout the project we asked many-​many-​many times when they would haul off the trash-​debris — this was always pushed off. I reminded our supervisor a few times about the backfill issue and that the crew had left large holes along the retaining walls. What did they do about it — nothing.
Keep in mind that this is not my first pool, so I know that the place should get wrecked; but normally the contractors clean up their mess as they go. And you shouldn’t just spread debris and trash and try and hide it under less than an inch of dirt.
Here’s my suggestion — I think Cody does a reasonable job. Have them put up a construction fence the very first day and make sure and contain their work area. In our case, I think the problem was that they didn’t have a construction-​silt fence up until the City demanded it and this was after excavation. This allowed them to really-​really spread out and take over much more of the yard than necessary. Next, demand (and don’t take excuses) that they remove the debris after EACH step in the process. If you don’t do this you will end up with huge piles of trash and debris in your yard for weeks (or months in our case) and in the end they may just leave a lot of it buried in your yard.
Overall we are happy with the pool and we will eventually get our yard put back together; even if I still find the occasional rock, rebar, etc popping up in the yard. Plus I’ve purchased about 20 bags of dirt that I’ve used to backfill the retaining walls myself.

Cody Pools delivered for my family, big time. The design staff listened to our desires, tailored plans that fit our goals, delivered animated computer simulation drawings before completing a contract, and featured great material options (tiles, stones, lights, equipment, deck surface, etc).
We viewed and selected materials after visiting both the Western Travis County and North Austin locations of Cody Pools. The staff were courteous and professional.
The Cody Pools construction team are diligent workers. Turns out, pool construction involves many elements and phases. Cody Pools moved very efficiently and kept us very well informed.
Bottom line: Cody Pools produces a great product — With full confidence, I highly recommend.

Do yourself a huge favor and shop around. This review coming from someone who built a Cody Pool in 2007. I loved it, my designer was great and the price was reasonable. Oh how things have changed. My small fairly standard free form pool with small water feature, average decking, LED light with cool decking… was bid at 44K… turns out 6K higher and 7K higher than similar bids from 2 other reputable builders that build many pools in Austin. This still didn’t scare me from Cody… I figured I would still be able to work something out with them but my designer/​sales guy, who says he’s been with Cody the longest, wasn’t interested. He offered up very litte… even though he had items in the bid I necessarily didnt care for… like a variable speed pump or UV water cleaner. Here was the kicker… when I realized Cody probably wasn’t the builder for me, and I expressed this my disapointment in price and flexibility… Like with my last build… I was told I was given maybe too low of a price (at 33K thank you very much!) and that there was a reason my last designer wasn’t with the company anymore! This was shady. First nail in the coffin. Lastly, I called the main office on Parmer Ln and asked for the owner’s email (Mr. Church), who I had met on my last build, to make sure he knew what was going on… AND I was told by the receptionist that they weren’t allowed to give his email out but she would be happy to forward an email to him. Not very open door. Last nail. My other 2 bids were great. I had follow up calls and was treated with respect and there was a sense of wanting to gain my business. I say again… there was a sense of wanting to gain my business… Not by Cody. I am chosen another builder who gave me most things I wanted in my pool… for 7K cheaper. Do yourself a HUGE favor and get other bids.

Wow, what a concept… Treated with respect, and honest pricing. (Anyone who read my review of a competitor will know why I am commenting on this topic!)
Anyhow…we have a very sloped and smallish backyard in suburbia. I didn’t think it would be possible to drop a pool in with so many restrictions. I was wrong. Sam was an excellent sales and award winning pool designer. I was also so happy to have worked with the construction supervisor, Tom. Tom was a calm, «no big deal» type of guy to work with. I appreciated his no-​panic demeanor. It instilled confidence in us.
We were so sick of seeing all these either dated kidney shaped and cement type pools, or what will likely be dated soon rocky, curvy, predictable for this area pools. Cody worked with us to design a pool with simple, clean, modern lines that fit our personality — not the same old, same old. They also had to get very creative with buidling in a retaining wall since our yard is so sloped.
Pools are expensive — don’t fall for a low estimate with no guarantee that it won’t be higher. Cody has a not to exceed — all inclusive price. They also have a 30 day deal, and ours was built in 28 days from start to finish. That’s just amazing. We didn’t have enough cash to do landscaping with them, but we got what we wanted and what they do best.
The only thing remotely negative I have to say about the experience has nothing to do with the company, but if you live in Bee Cave, be prepared to have to go back and forth with the city code enforcement people who seem to be over zealous when it comes to nit picky little things that keep them coming out to your yard. The good thing is Cody deals with it all, not the home owner.

Cody Pools is a First Class Design, Construction and Service company: Frank our talented designer and Tom, a nonpareil construction supervisor, built us a fabulous pool with equipment that runs very well.
As with any construction job of this magnitude, there were some minor issues that came up; However Tom and company went beyond the basics to make sure that they were quickly fixed and that we were satisfied. Cody’s service department is very courteous responsive and knowledgeable. If you want to design and build a pool in the greater Austin area there is no other choice in the same league.

We had Cody install a pool for us almost four years ago. The design was great, the service during install was good as well, no complaints. However, a few years after the pool was installed we have had several issues with failures. The warranty/​service dept was not very easy to get hold of and seemed to drag their feet on repairs. Unfortunately, since the warranty (three years) has expired we’ve had numerous issues — broken seals, busted pipes, broken pool cleaner, and now the big ticket item — the pool pump. I wonder about the quality of items used because we certainly expected our pool pump to last longer than only 3 ½ years. Now we are facing a $ 500+ replacement fee. So, if you plan to use Cody Pools definitely do your research and find out the quality of materials they will be using (pump, cleaner, etc) do your research. I am pretty disappointed to have to be spending a lot of money this year after the warranty expired to replace/​repair items that should have lasted longer…

After interviewing several local pool builders we selected Cody to build our dream pool. We have a very sloped yard, so they were going to have a challenge building it, however the finished product is simply stunning. Doug Boston is their sales director and designer and he designed us a magnificant pool and stuck to the budget. We were in the pool exactly 30 days after they broke ground. There were a few minor things that needed attention after it was built and they promptly fixed them as well as gave us a «pool school» to show us everything we need to know to maintain our pool. Technology is so great now that the pool is very low maintenance and requires less chlorine. I highly recommend Cody pools to anyone wanting to beat the heat!
*** Update– we have had a few minor glitches with our ozonator and filter pump, but Cody has come out and repaired them withing a week of calling free of charge. This is why I suggest going with a larger production builder as they have their systems in place more than an independent contractor.
