I’ve had better experiences than this… A massage is suppose to be relaxing and this was anything from it. The room should be quite with soft music but the music was not relaxing and he talked a lot. And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT. I asked him to do medium pressure but it was very firm. You get a massage to feel relaxed and to loosen up tight muscles but I left feeling sore and in pain.

Went to see Alex yesterday. He was willing to honor the Groupon after it has expired. The massage table was warm and comfortable. Alex worked hard on my tight shoulders and neck with hot stones and towels for an hour. I felt all the tension disappear after this wonderful experience.

Got a fantastic massage from Alex. He was attentive and professional. I’ll definitely be going back!

Alex was awesome. He was able to alleviate all of the tension from my neck down to my lower back. My body immediately felt better. One of the best deep tissue massages I’ve ever received. The office was clean, aromas/​music were calming, and he was very liberal with the massage oil which I liked.

Alexander Dupree is amazing! Hands down the best massage I have ever received. Deep tissue, warm stones… I would highly recommend him. I will be back.

I purchased a Groupon and received a massage from Alex today — it was awesome! I definitely would want to come back, and he gives student discounts (3 hours for $ 100). I had a lot of tension that have built up throughout my body, and Alex has been the first massage therapist who actually recognized the amount of knots and tension I had. I only had an hour appointment, so he wasn’t able to work out all the knots I had. He makes you feel relaxed and uses the right amount of pressure. It was definitely worth the money, and I highly recommend this practice.

This supposed massage therapist — Alexander Dupree — was high as a kite, stoned out of his mind on something.
I knew something was very wrong when he wanted to charge Groupon for the massage BEFORE he even did the work. My second clue was the small dingy waiting room when I arrived, adorned in 70’s décor. My third clue was that he could barely look me in the eye … seemed very rushed and in his own little world. My fourth clue was not being given any intake form to fill out. My fifth clue was when he told me to get on the massage table, leaving my clothes ON, saying, «Don’t bother taking off anything other than your shirt.» His demeanor and customer service was amateurish and beyond unprofessional.
He did NOT seem to know what he was doing.
A professional massage therapist — not — but rather a con with a good scam going.
I would encourage NO ONE to ever go to this establishment.
Groupon was wonderful when I called them to tell them about this horrific experience.
PS: I get the distinct impression that this has happened many times before, especially after reading the multitude of negative reviews here on Unilocal.Additionally, if you come across a $ 35 special for a massage on Groupon — hot towels & hot stones — run the other way.

FIVE TOP STARS FOR ALEXANDER DUPREE!!! I work with ultrasound and often need a workup on my shoulders, wrist and lower back! He is an experienced therapist and very professional! It was the best massage I’ve ever gotten!
I had my massage today and like all of you, I looked for reviews… decided to try! No regrets!!! As I decided to write a review for him right after I left, I saw the reviews… HAD NO IDEA WHY «Patrícia» PUT HER REVIEW LIKE THAT! We are definitely not talking about the same guy! By the time she put her review it looks like I had my massage right after her. Alexander was so nice and professional… the room had such a nice scent, the music was great and NO, Alexander was not high!

Alex was very responsive to my appointment request and accommodated me when I needed to reschedule. Alex asked up front what I was hoping to accomplish from the massage and focused on the areas I needed with perfect pressure. I would definitely go back!

Treated myself and got a massage for my birthday and it was EVERYTHING! If you like Deep tissue and you need a Great massage go see Alex. He is Fabulous!

Alex is awesome. He takes the time the understand my trouble areas and does a fantastic job of working them out, as well as ones I didn’t know I had! I love the music he plays and that he will chat while he massages. Admittedly, I wasn’t used to that, but it actually helps relax me more.
I agree, this isn’t your typical spa experience, but if you’re looking for a quality massage in a relaxed environment with cool tunes, you need to go to Alex at Austin Bodyworx.

I am surprised by the negative reviews and I’m glad I didn’t read them before having my massage. I guess some people have an expectation that a massage is suppose to include the sounds of whales singing, cucumber water and the therapist talking to you like you’re a delicate flower or a child. Honestly, the over the top «customer service» at other places makes me uncomfortable. Plus those places charge you for all of that nonsense which is why you will pay double what you pay at Austin Bodyworx. If you’re looking to be pampered at a pretentious spa then go somewhere else.
If you want the best deep tissue massage of your life then go to Alex!
Seriously, he found every knot in my back and worked them out. I was sore (in a good way) for a day or two and felt great after. I’ll be making a second appointment soon and hope to get massages from Alex regularly.

If you like a DEEP tissue massage, Alex does a great job at getting in there. Again, expect a little pain in the massage where he is finding those knots and working them out. This HELPS you even if it does hurt at the time and maybe the next day, but it is worth it and beneficial in the end. ;o)
I found Alex first through Groupon and have been back to him one more time since then. Both times Alex asked about any problem areas I had and made sure to hit those spots for a little longer before giving me a full body massage.
Best price I have found in Austin also for repeat customer. The groupon rate IS his rate, so it is always a deal, which I greatly appreciate. Makes it a little more affordable to go see him more often. Thanks, Alex for working me out!

Bought a groupon. Made an appt. He (Alex) cancelled the appt the night before at 10pm via email. I reschedule. He once again cancels this time 2 hours before my appt. again via email. He really didn’t seem too sorry about it. I had moved around my schedule this time to make it work.
I got my groupon money back. The only reason I’m writing this review is bc he sent me two requests for a review on Unilocal even though he has cancelled both of my appts. Here’s your review.

So bad. He was texting as we walked back. He was incredibly rough, and although I kept saying so, he first responded with, «What, do you want me to pet you?». I should have gotten off the table and left immediately, but kept hoping good would come out of it. There was loud rock music playing, and I couldn’t breathe since he pressed so hard. He also kept bumping the back of my head with his palm. Oh, and he put me down, twice! Do not recommend. …I just came from there, and am upset.

I’ve read through the other reviews and here is my personal experience.
It took me 6 years of trying different massage therapists (having left my last fabulous therapist in Alaska) to find Austin Bodyworx.
My initial visit was scheduled via Morgan’s Deals. (like groupon but better)
That was 3+ years ago.
Yes, we’ve rescheduled at least once that I can remember. I do feel like he caught me in time and made a reasonable effort to do so. Yes I was disappointed.
I hire him as a massage therapist. He is an integral part of my personal preventative maintenance health plan and does his job well. He listens, works out the kinks that are bothering me and I certainly sleep much better on top of a myriad of other health benefits.
Massage therapists are an intimate part of healthcare and you should certainly look around to find the right one for you. If you haven’t given Austin Bodyworx a chance, please do.

I’ve been going to Alex at Austin Bodyworx for about a year. I initially bought the Groupon and kept coming back. He gives the best massages I’ve ever had.
His studio is simple, comfortable, and not frilly… if you want that, go to an overpriced spa. The music is not zen, but relaxing and modern. He asks me every time what I need to work on, and has also helped with by teaching me exercises to do at home to open my shoulders, etc. He’s laid back, which is a good thing.
He has a unique, great technique and ALWAYS gets my shoulders and back worked out and I feel fantastic after every session. He uses strong pressure, but not painful, and it’s way better than the massages I’ve had at expensive spas where the pressure is so light you can barely feel it.
He communicates and does what I ask, and is always very professional and courteous. He’s on time (or early) for every appointment and I’ve never had trouble scheduling or had him cancel. He gets back to me within an hour with open times and follows up with an email invite invitation.
Bottom line, he’s great at what he does and I will keep going back.

First of all, let me preface this by saying I’m a former college athlete who has worked with countless physical therapists and trainers to iron out the kinks in my back, but also, I give a damn good back rub myself, and I know I wont settle for anything less than perfect. I stumbled across Austin BodyWorx on Groupon about a year ago and I’ve never looked back. Alex has always been more than willing to work around my schedule and has even offered to work on his day off when I was desperate for some body work. His work space is very cozy, very relaxing, and I always leave feeling replenished. He always has some soft jams playing, water bottles, towels, and fresh smelling sheets on his table. He’s proffesional, reliable, and most important, EXCELLENT at what he does!
My first appointment back in July 2014 was more me testing him out. I was mostly silent, told him my shoulders are my trouble spots but I essentially wanted the whole package. I let his hands do the work, and boy did they ever! He maintains a strong pressure for the FULL HOUR which I find is rare nowadays. My first appointment was almost like a cleanse, never got too rough on any 1 specific spot, more like he got every spot in my jigsaw of a back kinda all on the same page and working towards the same goal.
After my first visit, I became more of a regular and have since become more flexible, energetic, and just have an all around better mood! I’ve struggled with my posture all my life due to being born with dislocated hips and Alex has worked with me on several occasions not only to improve my posture, but also exercises I can do while at work to alleviate the stress I put on my back from sitting all day long.
My most recent experience about a week ago was BY FAR my favorite. I was recently told by my dentist that I’ve been grinding my teeth at night as well as clenching my jaw, I asked Alex if he had ever heard of massaging someones jaw and without hesitation he went strait to work. Not gonna lie, it wasn’t the most pleasant experience, more so because it was so alien to me than anything. I mean who knew your jaw muscles can get knotted? NO BULLSHIT since then my clenching and grinding has almost completely stopped! I now rub my jaw everyday and night as a preventative measure and its working wonderfully.
Whether you’re looking for just a basic massage or if you’re more into deep tissue, sports massage, you will find everything you need with Alex. Communication is key, you tell him what you want and HE WILL DELIVER. Very highly recommended!

I am hooked and have been seeing him on a monthly basis for almost a year now. He is everything you could want – strong, friendly and plays great music in a quiet, inviting atmosphere. I have referred countless friends and coworkers to him because he does such an amazing job.
