ABA Heating and Cooling

ABA replaced our AC evaporator coil last year so we had them come out when our AC stopped working recently. Essentially the technician indicated we either needed to replace all these parts or purchase a new AC. He also indicated the new thermostat we had purchased was defective. We called Faught for a second opinion. They had it fixed in less than 1 hour. They also found that there was nothing wrong with our new thermostat. It had simply been installed and placed at the wrong setting.

I had an Amazing experience with ABA! I came home late after work to find my heater not working. I called to schedule a technician, the office was very helpful and friendly. They sent technician Rudy, he was prompt, professional and very personable. I felt comfortable with him in my home, and he was able to fix the problem quickly. I will continue to use ABA, and feel confident telling everyone to request Rudy!

Put in a request online at 2:30am, and had a call by 8:00am, and a technician at my home by 8:30am. The entire problem was fixed by 9:00am. Technician was great and explained everything. This is my go to A/​C company from now on. Thanks again!

It is absolutely amazing to me that ABA is still in business. I reported them to the BBB after our horrible experience, and yet people continue to use them. They are blatantly dishonest, have terrible customer service and their workmanship is shoddy and unprofessional. Our 3-​year old system has had to be worked on annually for a different problem each time, and I don’t even bother to call ABA. If there were negative stars, I would give them 5.

We were without air conditioning, and the high today is predicted to be around 100 degrees. We called at 8am, and by 10am, our ac was back in service. The repair person was neat, articulate and knowledgeable. The price charged was fair, given the level of service. I wouldn’t hesitate to call again, or to recommend to friends.

I considered these guys but after the phone etiquette, I can’t imagine the service I may receive from one of their techs. I distinctly told the lady that answered the phone I was calling a couple of places to see what their costs would be for an estimate. She quoted me snd I asked her a couple of quick questions on what it covered and said I may be giving them a call back. The tone she ended the call with made me feel as if though I had just wasted her time. They quickly fell off the list of possibilities. The first person you speak with is the face of the business & represents them as a business.

Wost experience ever. Took my diagnostic fee, cashed my check and stood me up 3 times. These people are VERY unprofessional. If something goes wrong you will receive NO communication. I was lied to and my money was stolen. WARNING! DO NOT USE!

Seriously the best AC repair company I have come across yet. I called ABA is fix my commercial unit during the first hot spell of the year. They came out within a few hours, at the time they said, I received courtesy call to say they were coming.
The service work was thorough and follow up excellent.
can’t fault them. Actually was a surprise as most AC companies are not that customer friendly.
Well done ABA. if there was a 6 star option I would give it.

I was totally surprised by the level of service our family received… Still a little in awe. I have to commend the staff and technicians that work for ABA, including management and the owners.
Our furnace went out during a recent cold spell and when we called ABA they sent a technician out in about 2 hours. The technician was patient and explained everything in a manner that a «non-​technical» person could understand. They explained to me that the repair required would not take a very long but part was not available in Austin, that it would take approximately 3 – 5 business days for the part to arrive.
The part was ordered and my family decided to bundle up and wait it out — later that day we got a phone call from ABA’s manager, they offered to bring space heaters out to my home for my family to stay warm… still just amazed at the level of customer care and service we received.
I would highly recommend them to all my family and friends. I have found out that they are a family owned and operated company that has been in Austin for about 20 years. I always try to shop local but, it’s not always a positive experience. This totally was.

ABA came out day of to fix my heater when it was cold. They came out the day of and completely replaced my heater for a great affordable price. Also got $ 450 back from the city. I will defiantly be using them for all of my AC and appliance needs and would recommend them to all family and friends!

Wish there was a no star button! If missing three appointments without a phone call is the service you are looking for this is your company. Once they take your money for parts they will get around to your repair when they feel like it…

Avoid at all costs.
I called them to fix a Bosch dishwasher — they should have said they’re not authorized to work on Bosch products and don’t know anything about them.
Instead they came out, pushed two buttons on the dishwasher and said «it needs a new control board» They charged by half the repair fee ($ 80) and said they would order the part from Bosch under warranty and call me once it came in to schedule the install.
After over a month without a dishwasher I called them to see what was up… they said I would have to call Bosch to get the part… so I did. Bosch said they only provide warranty parts to people authorized to work on Bosch equipment, and ABA was not.
So I called an authorized tech who came out and diagnosed the problem to be a drain motor… part was ordered and installed a few days later. The dishwasher has been running fine for months now.
Due to the complete fraud of a visit I disputed the $ 80 charge on my Amex, which ABA fought and lost. So after a few months they have charged my card again $ 43.25…I’ve had to get Amex to put a permanent block on the merchant and they are still trying to fight my dispute of the most recent charge.

I didn’t have to go any farther than a phone call to request a quote to install a dishwasher. They don’t give quotes on the phone. They charge $ 85 to come out to assess the job and then give a quote. So right off the bat, they want $ 85 to tell me it will cost $ 150?
I explained the impracticality of that concept and ultimately did get them to quote me ($ 150.00) which would include the call charge. ABA’s telephone representative made no effort to even sound pleasant. I know we all don’t like Monday, but don’t make the customer feel like it’s their fault.
12/​04/​2015 — UPDATE!
A new record! I posted my review in February and they finally got back to me 10 months later! So I guess that’s how long it takes to get ABA to respond to a request for a quote. Note to ABA, I got it installed in February for $ 60. I couldn’t wait for you to get back to me. Impressive that you’re so busy, you take 10 months to respond. Stay busy!

Stay away from this company. They charged me almost 700 dollars to fix a furnace, then went away with the furnace turned off. We turned it on and the house filled at once with smoke. ABA sent some more people out and they said, sorry, we’ve turned your furnace off and it’ll take about $ 1500 more dollars’ work if you want us to turn it back on. This happened right before Christmas, so days and days passed before we could get the furnace fixed by a reliable company – and we’re still out our $ 700 all for nothing.
This is the last time I hire anybody without consulting Unilocal first! Older and wiser.

Service man came out to check out a problem with the dishwasher, he was in the house for maybe 30 minutes and gave me a quote to fix the problem for $ 248.54. I declined. A friend and I took a look at it and found a loose spring that was causing the door to fall. Problem 1 solved. We then found some food stuck between the door that was causing a small leak. Problem 2 solved. Cost– FREE. I would never have written this review if the guy would have took the extra couple minutes to fix this problem instead of trying to sell new parts.

Unilocal should allow zero stars as one star is way too much for this company.
My advice: Avoid ABA Appliance at all costs!
I only called ABA because a friend had a pleasant experience with an ABA technician a number of years ago. The ABA technician came out and fixed her AC when it had a leak and everything worked fine after that.
My story is a bit different. With a broken AC system in over 100 degree weather, Chad the slick salesperson shows up and gave me a quote of $ 800 for a new controller board for my AC unit or for only $ 4200 more I could get a whole new system. Here’s the rub: My controller was going to be «very difficult to get and he’d have to order it for delivery some time next week» but of course he could have the new AC system installed tomorrow.
He played the slick sales person well, stating that my AC system had a ‘life time’ of 10 years and my system was 12 years old and ‘living on borrowed time’. With soaring temperatures and an unsure delivery date for this controller board, I made the decision to order a new system. Chad promised that ABA would hold off on running the order for a few hours while I moved account balances around to fit the $ 5500 (I was supposed to get rebates to bring the cost down to ‘just under $ 5K’). At $ 800 for a new controller vs. just under 5K for a new system, a new system seemed like the better deal.
Chad leaves and I’m feeling a bit queasy about spending this much under such a high pressure situation and decide to have someone else look at the system. I call ABA and tell them they can’t run my credit card. They make noise about a ‘restocking fee’, but of course nothing has happened yet as Chad has just left. I get another call on my other line and tell them NOT to order anything and I’ll call them back in a bit.
New guy comes in and looks at the system. System is fine but the controller board has a short in it and is replaced with a generic controller board for a total cost of $ 250 which included a surge protector to prevent further shorts.
Here’s what I learned —
First: The inside unit is 12 years old, the outside compressor is less than 2 years old.
Second: $ 800 is more than twice the cost of a controller board. Every other company that I called was flabbergasted that ABA would try to charge so much.
Third: At no point did Chad suggest a generic controller board which Glenn, one of the managers at ABA, said that they use all the time.
Fourth: I called back less than an hour after Chad left to cancel the whole order and here’s where the fun started…
ABA «We have to charge you a restocking fee on the unit as it was already ordered.»
Me «No it wasn’t and there is no restocking fee. You know that this fee is made up.»
ABA «Well we moved someone else’s appointment to accommodate yours.»
Me «You know very well that you did no such thing.»
Very long conversation ensues which goes back and forth across multiple calls during which they often put me on hold for up to 20 to 30 minutes. They finally agree to reverse the $ 3000 charge that they ran on my credit card after I threaten to register domains like
etc.
This would have been the end of everything except a friend of mine also had her AC system stop working and had ABA come out to fix her system.
He shows up and says ‘clogged drain line’ and blows out the drain line, turns on the AC and leaves. 15 minutes after he leaves, the system stops working again. He comes out again and now MODIFIES THE EXISTING REPAIR ORDER and adds in a $ 600 charge for a new motor. This was all done before I could tell my friend the crap ABA just put me through.
She calls them right back and tells them that she doesn’t want the motor. Despite the fact that they hadn’t ordered anything yet, what did they want to do? Yep, you got it… 50% restocking fee.
New company comes in and guess what. There is MUCH more wrong with the system than just the motor.
My friend didn’t want to deal with them so I called on her behalf. Many, many conversations ensue during which they promised to refund the fraudulent charges (my friend only signed a contract for a repair — the blowing out of the AC line, she never signed or initialed the changes that the technician made on the original contract) if she sent the bill for the actual repair work done. Bill was sent… Nothing happened. Called them up and they became verbally abusive (Glenn the manager), hung up on both of us and still charged her a fraudulent ‘restocking fee’.
From my interaction with this company it appears that dishonesty is a policy built into the fabric of the company. They lied about necessary repairs, inflated costs well beyond reason, tell you they will return calls and then don’t, charge for non-​existent restocking fees and generally treat folks like marks to be taken advantage of.
How they can still be in business is beyond me.

I really liked working with this company… I am not going into as much detail as the others did but I will say when I called, customer service was professional and friendly. They had a tech out to my house the next day and he showed up early. I stood over him (Aaron) the whole time watching him work on my stove and he was very courteous, thorough and knowledgeable. He had my stove up and running in no time! I will be coming back to ABA in the future if I have any issues. My AC is very old so I will know who to call when the time comes. Thank you ABA!

We had ABA Appliance out to fix our rising vent hood. A new replacement for this product costs $ 1,200 mind you. Initially they quoted us $ 485 to replace the board and switch. After 2 visits they replaced the parts, which did absolutely nothing to fix the vent! Once more they came out and determined they needed to fix the motor. Another $ 215! After 3 more trips, over a 2 month period, they installed the motor. It still didn’t work!!! $ 700 into this job so far with no result. They replaced another switch the next time out with got the vent to work… barely! It was super shaky and didn’t work well at all. 3 months later it broke down again. I called ABA out only to have them say that they wouldn’t honor their work and that I needed to replace a $ 500 switch!!! I told them no way and now they are trying to slap a $ 40 service visit fee.
The kicker here is that I got another repair firm out and they fixed the vent in 10 minutes. They said that the vent wasn’t installed correctly and kept sliding off the track!!! Simple fix!!!
Now we’re $ 700 in the hole on a 10 year old $ 1,200 vent and ABA is trying to collect on their $ 40 service visit fee.
This is the absolute worst company I have every dealt with in my life. The repairmen are incompetent and will try to get the max repair charge out of you even if the appliance should be replaced in the first place. What a horrible company!!!

I called to have my AC checked before the summer months. This is my first home in America so I was unfamiliar about how to maintain AC units. In Ireland we don’t need the same technology.
Kendall came to check my AC. He walked me through the whole system and checked it thoroughly. He was professional and courteous and answered all my questions.

I was one of the lucky ones who was able to get one of the Texas rebates for a new AC unit this year, and since my old unit was over 15 years old it was really time. The furnace on it stopped working two years ago, so this last winter was very chilly to say the least.
But I called around 3 local companies to get quotes on how much it would cost for a whole new system and ABA was very professional about the entire process. They also were about 500 $ less than the closest other company for the same equipment.
Their installers seemed good at what they were doing, it took about 4 hours but I am told that is normal. They left the place as clean if not cleaner than when they arrived, and I have some great air conditioning again!
Thanks ABA you will have my service for as long as I have this house.
