Move Assist

I had a very positive experience with Move Assist. Called them up, got a quote, and set up a move date. Day before, I received a confirmation phone call. Next day, 2 movers showed up on time, with all the required equipment. They were extremely polite and professional at all times. They moved our furniture and boxes — including up 2 flights of stairs — quickly and carefully. Price was exactly as quoted. I’d like to thank Move Assist and our 2 movers for making a stressful day as easy as possible.

First and foremost the 2 gentlemen who Mark sent to help me load a 800 sqft pod were extremely efficient, polite, helpful, knowledgeable about how to «tetris-​ize» a small space with LOTS of stuff! They were so helpful I have booked them again for the final truck loading.
Secondarily, I have read through a few of the posts and a little disappointed at some of the expectations… If you haven’t hired movers before or not moved often enough to remember the pain of the last move… you really don’t know what to expect so make sure you ask questions, take notes, do as much as you can to stage & mark your stuff PRIOR to the movers arriving! You can’t be putting things in boxes the day the movers arrive! It’s true, loading takes longer than expected but that’s because they are the professionals and take the time & care to pack/​load truck properly and efficiently for transport, there are always additional costs such as tape, pads, that sticky shrink wrap stuff, etc… that you didn’t plan for likely cuz you didn’t know that that stuff even existed but again, they are the pros and know how to do this. Lastly, if you haven’t had the movers come onsite to eyeball/​analyze your place to provide a time/​size estimate then they really have nothing to go on until they get there.
Bottom line if you want to pay the price of family to move your stuff… then hire family! If you want the job done right, especially loading a truck that’s going across town or across country then I recommend these guys since they know how to load efficiently to get all your stuff into the space as well as load balance the truck for transport!

Hired Move Assist through a Living Social deal. $ 100 for two hours. They sent Edward and Andrew to help us on our move day. Edward was a natural leader, suggesting better ways to pack our truck and orchestrating a «train» that moved our stuff into our new apartment quickly and with minimal walking for all of us. In our follow-​up conversation with the owner, Mark, he even found an added fee that wasn’t necessary, and returned the appropriate funds. He went above and beyond to take care of us. I won’t hesitate to book Move Assist again, the next time I have a big move coming up.

We decided to go with Move Assist when we found a deal for them on a website. The deal turned out to be only $ 1 less than the actual hourly rate, but that was totally fine with me, It was still a good rate.
The team members arrived on time and promptly informed me that since we were on the third floor it would be $ 20 extra per floor, adding $ 40 to the total. This was a little surprising to me since we weren’t asked what floor we live on at the time that we set up the appointment. My fiancé, however, was told to look at the services page (
); at the bottom of the page was the «DISCLAIMER», which «disclaimer» means «a statement that denies responsibility», kind of funny name considering our situation. This section it has surcharges for different things including the $ 20 extra per floor charge. We missed that when setting up the appointment but still as a Chicago resident there is easily a 75% chance that we live on a floor other than the first. Just about ever person I know lives in a multilevel building. For this I would have just given a 4 star review because we were not asked this simple question. I know we missed this detail and this is «our» fault, but Mark, the manager/​owner whom I talked to on the phone about this after the fact, should have mention this so we could take it into account in our budget and so we weren’t surprised.
My fiancé and I are small business owners ourselves and we would NEVER do business like this. We make sure we get an ACCURATE quote and if there is going to be any extra charge we make sure it is ok with the customer first. But this is snafu was only the beginning of the whole ordeal.
As the move went along, the team members moving our stuff were doing a great job. They were going fast and were very careful, and despite everything that ended up happening we still gave them each a tip. About ¾ of the way through the move I asked if they could help move one, count it… ONE item from the basement, a coffee table. It took a total of maybe 4 minutes and was just around the side of the apartment building. At the end of the move I was invoiced over the phone for about (I“m unsure because we never got a actual invoice) $ 239.00 and I thought for a second, that doesn’t sound right… $ 99(for the initial 2 hours) plus $ 50(for the extra hour we hired them for) plus $ 40(a semi-​sneaky surcharge for living on the 3^rd floor)… that comes to $ 99+50+40=$ 189. After a little bit of prodding about why it cost $ 50 more he informs me that there was a charge for a «Long Carry» which was for the team members carrying an item over 100 feet, oh, the coffee table. WTF. I was on the phone with him and I was furious. Moving day is rated as #3 on the most stressful events in life right under number one, a death in the family, and number two, divorce. Thanks Mark for making one of the most stressful days of my life even worse. I fumed about this for hours, and I still had hours of work ahead of me that day and a 3 hour drive in the snow to our new house which I was really looking forward to being in a good mood when I got there.
All Mark had to do was inform of us of the extra surcharge for living on the 3^rd floor and have it be a policy to have his employees inform the customer of any extra charge. I would have agreed to the extra $ per floor because I liked the rate already but I would have just carried the coffee table myself and saved myself $ 50 to put towards my very first mortgage payment. This was «Gotcha Business» and as I see it there is no place for that in my business, not this business, not any business. Credit card companies do this kind of stuff, small business should know better. I don’t like leaving bad reviews, I really don’t. I tried to reason with Mark about this and I ended up screaming. I wanted him to give me a reason to not leave a bad review and he refused to remove the $ 50 charge to move a coffee table that probably didn’t even cost us $ 50.
I am more than happy to change my review if they make policy changes regarding these issues. If they give us our $ 50 dollars back, that’s even better, but I would rather them change this policy so it doesn’t happen to another couple on one of the most stressful days of their lives.

After getting quotes from several moving companies, we came across Move Assist which caught our eye due to its relatively low hourly rate. We rented a UHaul truck for the move.
We had planned for an early afternoon move and received an email from Mark (the owner) that the start time would be delayed 2 hours. When the guys finally showed up, they were apologetic and started right to work. I have to say that they were exceedingly courteous and hard working and did a fantastic job of packing the truck –that is the reason for the 2-​star rating rather than 1-​star.
So here’s the reason why I was disappointed. I moved from a 900-​sq ft condo without additional storage and had done some serious purging prior to the move. The night before the move with MoveAssist, my friend and I moved about a quarter of our stuff to the new place in 2 hours –new place was only 5 minutes away. I expected that the move would take 4 or even 5 hours for the rest of the stuff (also, from online research, this seems to be the average estimate for a 2-​BR condo). I was horrified when it actually took 7 hours. And, for 4 out of these 7 hours, my other friend and I were literally carrying boxes alongside the movers just to bring the move to an end. FYI, I had taken care of all the packing.
When I voiced my concern to Mark that the move had taken longer than (what I considered to be) a reasonable time frame, he stated that moving times are hard to predict and that if I did not want to pay as much, I should have dismissed the movers earlier. Can’t argue with that.
When I asked for an adjustment of our invoice in view of the 2-​hour delayed start that made it so that we could not sleep in our house that night, he said that this is how things go in the moving industry. I certainly hope this is not universally true.
I was finally offered a 5-​dollar credit given the fact a dolly was not provided for the move as advertised. Our total bill (including UHaul truck rental) ended up matching a competitor’s quote that we had presumed to be a higher priced alternative.
In conclusion, the guys were great, positive, hardworking, and they got the unwieldy furniture moved in. However, this turned out to be 7 hours of stress and hard work. I am not sure that I even saved money doing things this way.
Finally, a reasonable concession on the bill (especially in view of the late start) would have gone a long way. Fo me, it would have demonstrated a commitment to quality of service and customer satisfaction and perhaps would have had me recommending the service to friends. I am happy for those who have had a positive experience with MoveAssist. I wish I could count myself among them.

I recently moved from indiana to illinois and realized after packing that I would not be able to take all this stuff up three flights of stairs. I talked to mark on very short knotice and fairly late, and was willing to help. They helped me out so much and my furniture wasnt easy. The stamina and strength on a hot day in a hot stairwell on short knotice and the professional fast service is unbelievable. I canot praise these guys and company enough. Will definatly recomend them to everyone. 10 stars!

I only gave them 1 star because there is no option to give zero stars. Save yourself the heartache, hassle and frustration and do NOT hire this company under any circumstances. The crew Mark promised to have ready for my move never materialized and he hung up on me when I called to ask when I could expect them. He was rude, unprofessional and couldn’t have cared less about the inconvenience he caused.

I picked this company because they had good reviews and good rates, but when they showed up they were late, unprofessional, didn’t have a contract, and when it was all done they tried to charge me almost $ 200 more than what they quoted me as a worst case scenario. They took there dear sweet time, to the point that I was getting annoyed by how long it was taking and finally started moving items myself to help speed it up. The owner was on the phone 95% of the time as well. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I would not recommend using this company. You get what you pay for and I learned my lesson the hard way.

So, after a lot of looking around and calling different companies my family decided to use Move Assist. It was SUCH a good choice! We looked and called a lot of movers, some of which wanted a list of every piece of furniture and the dimensions of all the rooms!
I called up Move Assist, Mark the owner answered the phone, I gave him the general amount of furniture and other stuff we wanted to move the date and they have quotes on their website so you can get an idea of the prices. Plus you can provide the truck or they can.
They arrived, surveyed the apartment and got to work, how they managed to fit everything into that truck I will never know but they did! And really fast too! They made sure to wrap up out delicate furniture and make sure our glass doors were safe. Brought our stuff up to the 2^nd floor (at no extra charge!) and put it just where we wanted it.
They were a third of the cost of a large moving company! And very funny and polite, really really great guys! I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a great moving service at a great price. Thanks guys!!!

We hired Move Assist based on some reviews from another website, because we didn’t want the expense and hassle of a big moving company. Their idea is a good one: you rent the truck, they do the work. The move cost us less than half what it would have cost through a large co.
Granted we had done a lot of the prep work and all the packing etc, but they came and moved all the boxes and furniture from our old home and storage to our new house. It was well worth it. Mark is the owner, he is responsive and courteous. He brought an assistant who was equally pleasant. They arrived exactly on time and, all in all, it was a great moving experience.
They’re still in startup mode, but Mark and his guys have years of experience moving. We will recommend them to people for sure.
