So I decided to give this place a try and was in the mood for some tasty boneless spareribs. I’m on the Atkins diet to I can’t eat anything with high carb content and sugar. I did some research and many people on Atkins, when they order Chinese, they get boneless spareribs no sauce. So I ordered an order of the ribs and specifically said no sauce twice. They said okay no sauce. I got them, ate them and they were tasty. I continue to order from here for the next week and half about 7 times. I go in one day as I’m passing to order and asked for my same order. The usual, boneless spareribs no sauce. A guy I haven’t seen before gives me a weird look and says«no sauce? They all come with sauce already pre-packaged». I tell them, but I order it all the time. He says they all have sauce. He then speaks to a woman working there in Chinese and I hear the English words«no sauce». The lady starts laughing loudly with him as if she said, «we just tell them that». I was wondering why I wasn’t losing any more weight and why I was no longer in ketosis. That was my answer. I’ll make sure to tell all my friends and family not to go here because of the nasty service. I do not recommend. Telling someone there’s no sauce when there is wouldn’t be funny if someone was diabetic.

Seamless, I mean come on how can you not love it? Dragon & Phoenix is my default for Chinese delivery. The menu is standard Chinese-American fare, and part & parcel from what we’ve all come to expect from typical NYC Chinese food. I can’t say that I’ve ever dined in, although I walk by the place daily on my way to the train; I do know that their dining room is pretty tiny. If I were a betting man I’d say that delivery makes up the bulk of their business. It’s great food, the order is always accurate, they’re usually on time with delivery, if not a few minutes before. They always follow special instructions, and they usually even toss a free soda in with the order which I think is awfully sweet of them. You definitely won’t here any complaints from me about Dragon & Phoenix.

Best Chinese food in Astoria! I’m so happy my new apartment is within delivery range because I used to ride to Ditmars to pick it up(crazy I know) great taste, inexpensive and super quick.

This is the only Chinese food place I’ve tried so far that doesn’t skimp on the sauce. All the other places in the city have really dry lo mein. Trying to be «healthy» I guess. D+P is fantastic.

Solid beef and snow peas. Meat was soft and flavorful and there were lots of veges. General tso’s was ok– but then again I tend to prefer not deep fried stuff. Egg roll was fine as was sweet and sour soup. They do a good job and were quick — even despite the rainy weather!

I was going to come here and bump it up to 4 stars. Since that first time we’ve ordered again and again and it has been wonderful and delicious and quick. However, we ordered again tonight and the shrimp dumplings were once again half raw. Blech. Noticed the first one I ate wasn’t hot even though I just opened the container. Bit into the next one and sure enough, there was some gray inside. Sighhh. Everything else was piping hot and good though. The sesame chicken was still crispy(but was all white meat which is why it would have been 4 stars, same goes for General Tso’s chicken). So 3 stars. Have to remember to cut into the shrimp dumplings before actually eating them every time now.

I tried this place, sanitary inspection was pending, I ordered my usual general tso and wonton soup. Let me tell you, there was food orchestra in my mouth. My tastebuds were going crazy and it definetely left me wanting more. Do i recommed this place absolutely, would I be back? Not until their sanitary inspection grade goes up. The best chinese food I had so far!

I came here because of the 4 star rating when i got there, there was a «C» rating on the window. I went in anyways because there was a 4 star rating on Unilocal.I was very diappointed with my order. I had dumplings and they were burnt(posted a pic).

I never expected to be giving a Chinese takeout place a five star review or a review at all. I always looked at take-out places the same way: they are greasy and easy if you just want some food to make you feel guilty after you are done. Dragon & Pheonix really changed my mind on that. I ordered their dumplings, noodles, and a few chicken dishes and for the first time I really enjoyed Chinese take out food. They have a lot of great flavors and everything was so fresh, not greasy, and really just damn good. Chinese take-out is a dime a dozen in NYC but while this place may be a little farther than the one in your neighborhood, I highly recommend you go out of your way and try this place. It is well worth the extra effort.

Killer dumplings, both vegetable and pork. Delivery was speedy and came with a bevy of delicious dips/sauces to compliment the dumplings. FINALLY! A solid chinese take out establishment in Astoria. This will save me trips to Flushing when my dumpling cravings take over.

To be honest, it’s a dream to live within walking distance of this place. This Chinese takeout well rounds the Astoria Food District. They have just the right amount of grease on the light up picture menus above the register. The lights have gone out on a few of them but you can still make out the lettering. With the foot traffic this place receives, I know they can remodel, but I also know the imperfect quality under the tracks, is what brings us Astorians(Ditmarians?) coming back. They make eye contact with you as soon as you walk in the door so you know they’ll be back to take your order when they’re done packaging meals or taking phone or internet orders. The menu is traditional; the way I like it. Extra sauce? No problem. They cram the rice and chicken in the containers perfectly where you feel like you’re getting a deal, and you’re also not making a mess when you open it. The rice may not be hand picked and it wouldn’t surprise me if the chicken wasn’t free range organic, and by golly, if they use a dash of msg, I’ll turn my head… Because isn’t that what good Chinese take out is all about? Dragon and Phoenix is the place that trendy Chinese restaurants in the village model after except they use white table cloths and clean deep fryer oil. It took many moons to get a fortune cookie in my to-go bag, but tonight I got one. I can’t tell you what the fortune was because it won’t come true. But let’s just say I’m looking forward to it just as much as my next visit.

Dragon & Phoenix is a little heavy-handed on the oil, but the result is relatively tasty so I’ll takeout. I go here in person sometimes for the lunch special, but as of late(in winter, in sickness, and in rain) I tend to Seamless it up — which means I have to order a total of either $ 15 or $ 20, which includes food + tax + delivery tip. That is a ridiculous amount of Chinese food for one human, so prepare to share or have plenty of leftovers for work lunch or dinners at home or both. Personally, I appreciate it for when I want to go on a laziness binge. My personal favorites: Moo Goo Gai Pan — My dad once wouldn’t let my little brother order this because he had no idea what it meant. For the unaware, the name is literally sliced chicken and mushrooms. The dish here comes out to be chicken, carrots, mushroom, and snow peas in white sauce(cornstarch added to the chicken juices). Have with brown rice for a pretend healthy dinner. Shrimp(or chicken) with Asparagus — Healthy portion of both asparagus and shrimp. I believe the pint versions of all shrimp dishes here include 5 pieces of jumbo shrimp, for those of you who order food for the«meat.» Also white sauce, with some carrot thrown in. This tastes the best the first day, as microwaved leftovers make the asparagus a little softer, but still good nonetheless. Shrimp(or chicken) with Broccoli — I eat this everywhere. It’s good. This is where the oil is a little heavy-handed. Brown sauce(which is some amalgamation of soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, water, and cornstarch as thickener). Shrimp with Broccoli Diet Dish — I have a history of judging people, and the emergence of the«diet dishes» had me in my element. You’re doing Chinese takeout wrong(I have similar angry feelings on people who order bagels«scooped out»). However, it has its merits! Recently I was out sick from work for 4 days, and wasn’t healthy enough to cook or eat most takeout options. To the rescue came a steamed version of shrimp and broccoli with a side of easily-digested white rice. The brown sauce came in a little dish on the side, which plenty of sauce to use for my own cooking when I became healthy later. It’s probably just the right amount for one dish for others, but I prefer my food light on the sauce. I don’t really love the fried rice, but I do love the options — mushroom fried rice with optional egg($ 1 per egg) isn’t bad. Extra bean sprouts and making it «spicy» help the flavor and texture. Both delivery and takeout are prompt and the food is always piping hot. Be careful! Delivery comes within 15 to 30 min, well below the Seamless estimate. Takeout is usually ready within 5, depending on the size of your order. My mother likes their shrimp egg rolls, I like the hot oil. I always get hot oil. Don’t eat in unless necessary, it makes you look sad and lonely.

Oh hells yea this place is bomb… Wanted something quick and delivered to me. Pork egg fried rice, veggie spring roll, egg drop soup, ribs! All good. I’ve been in this place also, it’s clean. Like 1 or 2 tables in there I wouldn’t recommend eating in there unless you’re dolo… Amazeballs spring roll, I housed that thing in about 2sec nomnom. Place is cheap too I mean all Chinese places usually are anyway. Usually… Next time I’ll opt for a full combo plate and get real crazy …

So far the best chinese takeout we’ve been able to find since moving to Astoria. Highly recommend the chicken and broccoli in brown sauce, chicken fried rice, and wonton soup. Everything was delicious!

If I took all of the money I have spent at Dragon & Phoenix, I probably could own a decent size house in Florida. My A+, GOTO spot for Chinese food. I have lived in Astoria all of my life, and D&P really do the job right. They are the ONLY place that has Cheese Wontons the way I like them. Im not sure if this is a less popular way of making them, but they are not the triangle shaped sweet cheese won-tons…these are the ACTUAL wonton shaped little bucket of love!(an actual cheesy taste, not sugar) I love the crunchiness of the General Tso’s chicken. The rice is all on point and delivery is SPEEDY… delivery guy always has a huge smile on his face and is always very thankful regardless of tip size. Try them out, you wont regret it!
