Homeward Bound Animal Hospital is a full service veterinary hospital. We specialize in routine wellness and vaccination appointments, general surgery, internal medicine, radiology and geriatric pet care as well as acupuncture and cold laser treatments. We can also offer mobile veterinary care, bringing services to your pet at home.

History

Established in 2013.

Dr. Keri Jones operated a mobile practice before purchasing this comfortable farm house in 2004 and renovating it to suit the modern needs of a veterinary hospital. In July of 2013, the practice was purchased by Dr. Debora Stump. Dr. Stump continues to offer full veterinary hospital services in our homey environment with the help of skilled and knowledgeable veterinarians and a caring and dedicated staff. We have continued making mobile visits to client’s homes in order to offer convenience and reduced pet stress.

Business Owner

Jeff was born and raised in Wheaton, Illiinois, a great suburb outside of Chicago. He received his undergraduate degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he studied and played soccer for the Golden Eagles. Jeff then pursued his dreams of becoming a veterinarian at the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine. Jeff sharpened his medical skills during an small animal rotating internship at Animal Hospital Specialty Center in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. From there he spent five years caring for patients in Denver before landing at his long term home in Arvada at HBAH. After spending time with Jeff, it is easy to see his passion is helping and caring for animals and their people. He has gained a reputation as a caring, progressive, and thoughtful doctor. Outside of work, Jeff enjoys sports, camping, fishing, snowboarding, and hiking. Jeff and his wife, Andra, stay busy chasing around their 18 month old daughter, Elise, and their English Setter, Dawson.

All I can tell you he is the very best. Although we are only in Colorado during the summer months, Dr. Jeff still sees our pets. He saved our dog’s life several years ago when she had cancer. He is kind and compassionate.

Where can we even begin to express our gratitude to Dr Jeff and his staff? Dr Jeff started seeing our furry buddies several years ago and has always treated them as his own. Our dogs, Greta and Buckley trust him and love seeing him. Recently, we needed to send Greta to doggie heaven and Dr Jeff made this such a peaceful and easy transition. Greta wasn’t scared and passed peacefully. I truly believe this was because Dr Jeff was in charge of the process. He also calmed Greta’s little brother, Buckley during the process. We love Dr Jeff and his staff and will be forever grateful.

Dr. Jeff Gerlesits is an incredible veterinarian! I’ve never experienced the care and concern Dr. Gerlesits gives to the animals he cares for. I drive 45 minutes to his clinic because he’s the best veterinarian I’ve ever worked with and I feel confident in his care of my animals. He’s awesome!!! Do not hesitate to patronize his hospital…

This is an AWESOME vet clinic!!! Our chihuahua/​pug mix ate an entire pack of sugar free gum which should have killed her but thanks to Dr. Amy and the team at Homeward Bound and their quick action’s our little Noodle lived! Seriously this is a great Vet! They also were in constant contact with the vet we took her to over night to make sure she was ok. And they have called me to make sure she is doing OK. Thank you so much Homeward Bound!!!

We had our first and only experience here today. We needed to be seen pretty urgently and got an appointment within and hour of when we called. The staff was amazingly kind and helpful. I think three people including the vet kissed our sweet injured dog within 20 minutes of being there. They needed to keep her and stitch up her wound. They made us and our pup feel so comfortable during a stressful situation. Dr. Gerlesits was very informative, patient and compassionate. We transferred from another vet and are so happy we did.

Our family has been extremely happy with Homeward Bound Animal Hospital. We had two puppies who were in need of spaying and neutering. After calling around and doing our research we switched to Homeward Bound. Dr. Jeff Gerlesits is excellent with our dogs. Not only are the fees reasonable but it’s obvious Dr. Jeff takes a vested interest in the animals. We appreciate is expertise, kindness and follow-​up. I’d highly recommend this practice.

I’ve been very very happy with the service I’ve received at Homeward Bound. We switched from Arvada Flats and I couldn’t feel better about my decision. The staff is so nice and the dr.‘s are so welcoming and down to earth. I like the building’s cozy feel and the fact that my money isn’t going towards the latest materialistic style. Fancy floors and furniture is not going to help my pets health, it only hurts my bank account.
Never the less, the service at Homeward Bound is top notch and professional and that’s what matters most!

Our first encounter with Homeward Bound was after we adopted our cocker spaniel from a rescue organization that uses this vet. We were impressed with their obvious care and attention to the animals they care for. The staff from the top down was unbelievable.
Our dog was attacked last night and after a night in an emergency vet we were scrambling this A.M. to find a vet to do the surgery. Since we live downtown we had not kept Homeward Bound as an option for further services. Husband got on their website and emailed and called them and they remembered her. Luckily they were able to get her in today. Dr. Liza who worked with her with the rescue site was on staff today and the tech and other vet were fantastic. I am sorry I didn’t get their names. Similar to our first visit with them they were all incredible, caring and the best. We will use them as our vet from now on and take our other two dogs there as well for treatment.

I can’t say enough positive things about Homeward Bound and the care they have provided me and my 14 yr. old miniature schnauzer. Although I live in Littleton, I make the trek to Arvada because of the excellent service and care that they provide. After visiting a number of other clinics for care, I immediately felt a difference coming here. All of the staff and doctors truly care and go out of their way to establish a feeling of calm and comfort. Dr. Leedom has been phenomenal in her support and sound guidance in providing the best care for Tucker (regular exams, pulled teeth, cancer treatments) while also ensuring that I was informed and comfortable every step of the way. She has even called me to check in after hours and during her vacation just to make sure things were okay. I know that I am in good hands here and highly recommend them.

There is so much personal attention at Homeward Bound! I transferred my puppy Khloe from another vet because at that facility I felt like we were rushed out. Homeward Bound has been such a breath of fresh air in comparison! When Khloe came down with a parasite, and we got a same-​day appointment, no problem. Dr. Pfaff gave a complete and thorough exam and in-​depth recommendations for future prevention. The technicians are pleasant and interested as well.
I highly recommend this clinic.

Homeward Bound only knew my dog — Hayden — for only the last four hours of his life yet treated him as if he were part of their family. They took him to their clinic — which feels in every way like a home — and within an hour called me with their diagnosis and treatment options. They even offered to transport him to Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital for surgery and further treatment, had I chosen to have that done. Unfortunately Hayden was very sick and when we decided to have him put to sleep, Dr Amy told me that he was just hanging out with everyone until we got there. When we arrived, we walked into the room and Hayden was, in fact, hanging out with everyone, sleeping on a bed of blankets with a pillow under his head and a heater blowing on him and one of the techs sitting on the floor petting him. He passed away very peacefully and I will never forget the attention and love they showed my dog. I would recommend Homeward Bound to absolutely anyone and will forever appreciate the kindness they showed.

Dr. Jones was simply terrific in helping us with our newly-​adopted and temperamental shelter dog who needed knee surgery. Taken together, Dr. Jones’ easy and direct manner, clear explanations and advice, competitive pricing, and especially her «one-​dog-​at-​a-​time» office, all made a huge difference to us compared with other vets.
Though there are never any guarantees, my dog’s TTA (tibial tubercle advancement) surgery was a complete success. I highly recommend Homeward Bound Animal Hospital.

Tucker is my 3-​year-​old Golden Retriever. I got him when he was 9-​weeks-​old. He has always been itchy, and progressively has gotten worse. Originally I assumed he just had itchy skin and I tried every wash you could think of. Then about a year ago he started itching really bad and shaking his head. Five minutes would not pass without him scratching. I took him to two different vets and they both didn’t think it was a big deal and gave Tucker steroid shots. Which seemed to work. But once the steroid wore off he was just getting worse. Finally, I took him to Homeward Bound! I was reluctant at first to pay for allergy testing (their recommendation), but it was the best thing I ever did for him. From there we were on the right path of treatment. I really liked that there were not surprises. I knew the services I was getting, and the bill. Dr. Jones and her staff are absolutely wonderful. They are not about the money– They are about helping our pets and making a good pet-​parent bond with us. I had to go back for more medication and instead of charging me, they gave me donated meds. I thought that was very nice of them to help me out financially. To top things off, I also received a HANDWRITTEN card. You never see that! We get reminder post cards now days from a vet we haven’t even seen for years! Long story short… Homeward Bound has helped make my dog healthy, not just made him feel better temporarily. Dr. Jones and her staff are absolutely the most pleasant people! Thank you all for all of your help for Tucker!
