Sahara – South Asian Helpline and Referral Agency

SAHARA meaning «support» in Hindi provides information and support services to the South Asian community in Southern California. A major focus of this organization is empowering the silent and unacknowledged section of society suffering from domestic violence.
I attended their annual fund raising event and the theme here was the world.
As you entered the event their were drummers from China, girls showing their Indian saree dresses, Indian music and there were foods from nearly every country.
As all fund raising events go there were speeches, silent auctions, lots of spicy Indian foods and a lot of well dressed people to see.
Among the highlights of the events were the Flamingo dancers from the Orange Coast community college.
Sahara provides support, housing, legal help for women who suffer from domestic abuse.
