Blind Start of America (BSA) is an award winning 501©3 nonprofit organization with the mission to help blind and visually impaired persons learn and develop job skills to empower them to lead lives of independence.
Blind Start provides educational seminars and workshops for the blind and visually impaired community that focus on communication, public speaking, image presentation, job searching, interviewing, technology, and computer skills. We also provide support services to the blind related to employment, housing, and transportation to lead lives of independence.
Our goal is to provide 50 disabled Americans with 50 employers to increase gainful employment and home ownership for the disabled community in 50 months.
We bring awareness to mainstream America with niche «Visionary Experience… Blindfolded!» events such as the Blind Mud Run, Blind Dragon Boat Racing, Benefit for the Blind, and Dinner in the Dark.

Brian Tom is the CEO and Founder of Blind Start of America. BSA has gone from a localized nonprofit, to an award winning organization with a huge following. BSA has won many awards from the California Senate, the State Assembly, various Southern California cities, and Toastmasters. BSA has been written about in major newspapers around the world.

At the age of 20 (1991), while attending UCLA, Brian Tom founded his first company, California Educational Centers, Inc. One year later, he was diagnosed with the eye disease glaucoma and blindness set in. Although blind, Brian has a clear and limitless vision to educate and inspire others to overcome life’s challenges and achieve their dreams. He is dedicated to serving others and paying forward all the blessings he has received throughout his life.
