I had a very nice experience at this place. It was clean and the staff was friendly. I am really into the $ 50 mani/​pedi deal and Nina did a nice job. In fact, I think it is the longest any classic manicure I have gotten has lasted without chipping.
Location is great-​right by the Courthouse Metro and I like that they are open a bit later than most salons.
Make sure you make an appointment in advance though because I don’t think they do drop ins.
I would certainly go back!

Went here for a haircut/​partial highlights. Had a great experience with my hair as I am very picky and have light brown hair and don’t want it to be too light or too dark. My stylist did a perfect job and the staff was overall super friendly and offered me any type of drink.
For my mani/​pedi I was less pleased with though. It was very rushed and not given as much attention/​thought as I would have liked– but I will be going back for hair!

This is my go-​to place for getting pedicures and gel manicures. Nina is the best manicurist I think I have ever had. She is fabulous. You do need to make an appointment ahead of time, but sometimes if you call up they might have same-​day or next-​day openings for certain services.
I have also gone to Silk Salon & Spa to have my hair blow-​dried and straightened with Tom, and he was really great. I am always impressed my how quickly and easily he can tame my thick curly hair. And he always puts good products in it so it lasts a while too. (The products smell good too)
The customer service is fabulous as well. I have never had a bad experience here!

Very very basic pedicure. For $ 30 dollars, I got a my nails trimmed, filed, and painted, and that’s basically it. No foot massage or maintenance. Service was rushed, and the paint job was sloppy.
I like that they stay open until 8pm, but I still won’t be coming back.

Great experience getting my nails done here. Very friendly and kind technicians. The nice interior too. The prices are reasonable for Arlington. Right by the Courthouse Metro and parking is easy. (Free on Sundays), Parking meters next door.

I got my hair cut at Silk Salon today and absolutely love it!

It has been a year since my last review and Tracy is still my girl. She has been cutting and coloring my hair and still manages to make everything look natural while making sure to listen to what I want. She remembers meeting my boyfriend, my latest vacation from when we previously spoke, etc.
In my 23 years of existence I have never been so excited to get my hair done because at this point, it just feels like I am going to catch up with my friend who also happens to play with my hair and make it better.
Then I forget it’s not free but that’s just fine because as I previously mentioned in my review from last year, a $ 70 haircut is not that expensive compared to the other overpriced quotes in the DC area.
Salon is still neat, clean, and flossy. Go!

I’ve been going to Silk Salon for over 2 years now. There is a very competitive market for salons in the Arlington area, and I have stayed true to Silk. Dan, the owner, is fabulous. She listens to what you are looking for but also inputs her own opinion without being pushy. It’s usually not hard to get an appointment within a day or two of when you want to come in, but would definitely recommend scheduling ahead of time vs. doing a walk-​in as the number of stylists they have on staff each night differs. Shampoo, cut, and blow dry is $ 60, which is the the best price for a high quality service.

Got a great silk manicure at this salon. I’d recommend it. Parking situation is not ideal in this neighborhood, but there is a metro stop not too far away.

The two stars are for Tom and Tracy both of whom I’ve visited with wonderful results. The three dark stars are for Nora who missed my New Year’s Eve appointment. I find her behavior today unprofessional and will not ever go to her whether at this salon or another one.
This has always been a five star business for me until today. Disappointed.

I had gone here for waxing today as I saw the price was moderate enough for me and the attendant will not be very busy on a Tuesday afternoon so I can get my waxing done properly.
My experience in this salon was very bad and I will never ever return here ever. My attendant was Nina who was extremely rude arrogant and did her job as if I am getting paid to come to this salon.
I did not get a fine wax finish at all. All my hair was sporadically spread over my legs.
I requested her to remove it as I think I have paid enough (i.e $ 55) to get a basic clean feel on my legs. She just refuses after doing it once that she has an appointment and someone is waiting for her. I think this is a very lame reason to tell a client after knowing that the work done is not up to the mark at all.
Trust me this salon was simply empty as I saw till I was present. Miss Nina is women who doesn’t understand basic English and lacks basic etiquettes.
Simply not worth the money.
Worst waxing experience.
I prefer to pay more and go to good salons like blue Mercury or Any other salon in Clarendon who give a much better service which leaves the client happy.
Girls please don’t go to this salon even if u see the prices are moderate.

My first experience at any hair salon in the area. Super worried i could not find someone who understood where my stylist was going with my hair. Was able to walk in, get an appt for 45 mins later and worked with someone who is a master in their profession! Definitely worth the money!

This is the best Salon I’ve ever been to in my entire life! The hair stylists, the nail services. And don’t even get me started on those incredibly organized receptionists!

When it comes to hair styling and personal services such as this, if your STYLIST LACKS BASIC ENGLISH PROFICIENCY, so that it is impossible to carry on a basic discussion on style choices and how to have your hair cut, this is a big problem!
You deserve a stylist who can understanding your style needs and making you comfortable about your experience and the approach she will take.
I was unfortunately already sitting in the chair when I observed that my stylist was unable to answer me on basic hair questions about texture and length choices. (I was looking for her input on how to cut my hair.) The stylist obviously did not understand anything I was saying while continuing to tug at my hair and brush through it. Our unproductive non-​conversation began to give me cold feet about having this lady cut my hair without giving me some idea of how the result would appear.
At that point the stylist in the next booth chimed in using an abrupt and abrasive tone, in the midst of coloring another customer’s hair, about what I should do about the texture of my hair. (I have long and thick hair). She broke in without any previous context of what I said…(She was just yelling basically without the benefit of a discussion.)
The stylist’s obvious abrasive manner made me feel extremely uncomfortable. This is a personal service salon after all… not a place for making a customer feel uncomfortable about style options. She ended her commentary with a condescending «Do you understand?»
(Her tips were also to to use *more* product which is controversial given what I’ve heard from other hairdressers .)
At that point, I was so intimidated by the rude, abrupt tone and manner of this stylist that I bailed on the haircut and said I’d just have a blow dry.
It’s baffling to me why a personal service salon in Arlington VA would assign a stylist who cannot carry on a basic discussion in English with their customers.
This is not a great place for a comfortable relaxed consultation regarding style changes. For the blowdry (I should have just left but I didn’t want to appear rude) I was charged $ 15 more than the Aveda salon either in Arlington or Rockville, MD.
Leave this place at once! Don’t go for their overpriced blow outs. Just go over to the pros at Jon David Salon just down the street or the Aveda Salon at Pentagon Row. Their stylists are professionals who speak good English, can offer great styling consultations, and have a good sense of style.
Additional Note: The owner of this salon decided to reply to my comment calling me a ‘racist’ and published my personal details on Unilocal,which is against their policy. She later took my details down. Talk about acts of intimidation! If you have a great salon, you let your work speak for you, you don’t need to intimidate your customers!

This place is the best!
Tom can work magic on hair. I came in last week because I needed a change and made the scary decision to add low lights to my blonde hair. This would make it the darkest it has been in years. At first I was shocked and momentarily sad. However, 3 days later, I am used to it and its absolutely beautiful. The compliments just keep coming. I am SO happy. The cut is perfect. While it is a little bit pricy, the service and quality is worth it. I will never trust anyone else with my hair again. I HIGHLY recommend Silk Salon and Tom.

I live in the area and silk has been my salon! It’s clean, the staff are friendly and I can always get a reservation.
Tried to walk in once to get my nails done but turns out you really need a reservation so now I always make one ahead of time.

I am in the area for an extended time and determined I would not be able to go much longer without getting my bangs trimmed. I stopped in here on a whim and they were able to take me as a walk-​in.
Gia was great and took me to her chair immediately (she works Tues-​Thur and Sat-​Sun). I know you may be thinking that I only had my bangs trimmed but let me tell you — you get a bad cut on your bangs and it makes your life miserable until it grows out!
They charge $ 6 for this service. If I need another trim before I head home, I will definitely see her again.

I came here last week for a Brazilian wax with Nina. The appointment was easy to schedule and I was taken back promptly. However, the waxing itself was less than pleasant. Nina had to re-​wax several areas (and kept breaking wooden sticks in half over me to use both ends) and even after that, I still had hair left. She also refused to refer to my body with anything other than gestures and pointing, which made it difficult to understand what she was asking and made an already embarrassing process even more so. When I requested cooling lotion, she poured enough for my entire body, then handed me a lump of paper towels to clean myself off.
Bottom line, this was not $ 60 worth of skilled service. I won’t be going back or recommending the salon to others.
EDIT: After skimming previous waxing reviews, it looks like Nina is not actually an esthetician but a nail stylist who waxes on the side. If you do decide to go here for waxing, be sure your appointment is with someone else.

I have been hesitant to write up a review for Silk Salon because I don’t want to let everyone else in on the secret. However, this is a fabulous salon and deserves a good write up here on Unilocal.
Tracy is amazing. I found her through a friend after literally years of looking for a good stylist, and meeting only mixed results. The first time I saw her I felt like she was an old friend — she knew exactly what I was trying to describe and while we chatted away, she did a perfect job on my hair. Every time I go back she manages to repeat that excellent first experience.
Last time I was in there, there was a water outage in Clarendon. Literally no water available. Instead of cancelling on her customers, she went out and bought cases upon cases of water so we all could have our services as scheduled. That’s dedication.
I would highly recommend her for color, cut, and general hair services.

I decided to try this place based on the great reviews, a picture showing fabulous nail art and mainly because of the fact that it is walking distance from where I live! The salon is located at the epicenter of Courthouse, which is always bustling with life.
Silk, which also offers several other services makes a wonderful first impression upon entering it. With its contemporary décor, impeccable cleanliness and friendly receptionist, the place lures a person in to give it a shot.
The mani-​pedi area located at the back of the salon is not very large, having only two mani & pedi chairs each. The salon also offers only one standard manicure and pedicure. Of course you can choose gel nail color Vs regular colo but unlike other nail salons which have classic, deluxe, extra deluxe (you get the picture!) based on the amount of massage time, scrubbing time etc. you are willing to pay for, Silk has only one standard… and the standard is pretty stellar!
Nina who essentially runs the nail salon portion of the salon, is one fabulous nail technician! She is one of the best there is and definitely the best I have ever gone to! I was looking to get some nail art done to showcase the festive season and had a picture which I wanted to draw inspiration from. Nina took to time to ask several questions to understand exactly what I was looking for before she started off with me. Despite me changing my mind atleast three times with the color choices she remained patient, offered ideas (something which no other nail tech has ever done) and basically did nothing to hurry me along or make me feel like the pain in the a** I was being. Her patience and thoroughness continued, though my manicure and pedicure. I loved the fact that during my entire time there, Nina was only focused on me and didn’t rush through anything even once. I found myself dozing off several times during the session and before I had realized, I had spent close to 2.5 hours at the salon, had spectacular nail art, well manicured hands and soft, callous-​free feet! What else can a girl ask for!
The only possible downside to the salon is, that parking in the Courthouse area can be painful. The salon does not validate parking at the surrounding garages and street parking is often hard to get.
Overall: I dont know how things are over busy weekends but for me. it was a near perfect experience! Thank you Nina… you will definetely see more of me!
