I live nearby and have become a regular. This is a family sandwich shop with an excellent food bar. Sliced turkey and stuffing every Tuesday, fish on Fridays, meat loaf or meat balls Wednesdays or Thursdays, and various chicken dishes daily. Wide selection of vegetables and salad bar. Very traditional American cuisine reasonably priced by weight. Fairly standard sandwich selection, open till mid afternoon from 6:00 am in the morning. Owners and personnel are extremely courteous. Well maintained. One block from Glebe Rd and Fairfax Drive a quarter mile south of Rt. 66 exit. Highly recommended over alternative Ballston area venues.

As others have noted a bit hard to find but worthwhile. The Blt sandwich is great. They also have a large and varied menu of other items.

I thought my coworkers might have just invited me to lunch as a cover to take me off to a field and haze me, when we started walking to Fairgate Café. Very odd location, behind a few buildings, through a carpark, right in front of a residential area. No hazing, but the food was pretty good. There’s a whole mess of lunch specials every day, and Wednesday is particularly popular because of the #1, chicken steak sandwich. I thought the chicken would be sliced, but it’s more chopped… which is weird. But it’s hot, greasy, and cheesy, and that’s all that matters. The combo comes with fries, but mine were cooked too long, so they were too firm to absorb the ketchup like I like. :(My colleagues got the reuben, and a turkey sandwich, both of which looked phenomenal, and my coworkers had no complaints. Overall, not a bad lunch spot, esp. for the Wednesday specials, but the location is kinda odd. Leave a trail of breadcrumbs to find your way back to Fairfax.
