I heard good things and wanted to try — but it’s closed now. Toni’s 24 hour is still open but the Thai place is gone.

i’m vegetarian and so prefer their green curry dish and sweet potato fries. It’s spicy at first but then it’s full essence is revealed… a sweet coconutty sauce with bamboo chutes, corn, etc with brown rice. They need a beverage that is more natural(i.e. no corn syrup base), and more veggie curry dishes please, that would bring a few of us ;) The location is perfect for anyone needing a vegetarian alternative to tony’s which is a popular 24hr burger joint that is a community staple.

This place was so DISGUSTING! I ordered Massaman curry with brown rice. Massaman curry was still FROZEN. Brown rice was hard. Looks like a can of Dog food dump on my plate. Taste, too sweet. I wouldn’t even call it Massaman. Need real thai cooks!

great place you get what you expect with a little extra. peanut sauce is great with the Sweet potato fries and the summer rolls were simple and lite. pad Thai wasn’t off the hook but it was decent. friendly staff fast service in a comfy place.

I went there for the first time today. I ordered a number 5 Pad Thai with chicken. It was so spicy I could not eat it. It made my whole mouth numb. It did not have any flavor, it was just spicy hot and gross. My husband could not even eat it. We threw it away. I eat spicy food all the time and this was just ridiculous. Not worth the money I spent on it.

The curry was very flavorful. The cook brought out samples of the soup and peanut sauce for us to try. Totally enjoyed our lunch in the sun.

Pad Thai was basically all sprouts and it was expensive, Thai tea is weak. I won’t be returning.

Have been to this truck a few times and it was just ok. Went recently on a Sunday and it was awful. Our pad Thai came with a half a cup or more of oil soup floating in the container. I poured it out and another puddle of oil soup appeared after we began eating. The noodles were undercooked and we couldn’t finish it. Bleh. When I returned to the truck to let the cook know of our experience and show her the oil puddle soup, she seemed uncaring and said ok. Didn’t say sorry or offer a refund. We tossed the food in the garbage and won’t be back. A little customer service goes a long way in this world and that was not the way to retain customer. Don’t bother going here. Not good.

Now that I have had an opportunity to explore their menu more, I have found a weird loophole for a free spring roll. The combo comes with 2 types of curry dishes, jasmine rice, and a spring roll for $ 7.99. The regular curry menu item is $ 7.99 for just the curry and rice. If you order the combo you get the same amount of food, so why not?

My son is engaged to a Thai national and I’ve had the very good fortune of having authentic Thai food cooked in my house, eating with her family in SFO, and eating a lot of Thai and Asian food all over the world. I didn’t have high expectations about getting food from a truck at Toni’s, but I was pleasantly surprised! Phad thai is a general litmus test and it was honestly the best I’ve had in Humboldt. A few fresh sprouts on the side to mix in, a quarter of lime to sprinkle, and an extra container of hot chili flakes(but it was perfectly medium spicy all by itself). I also got the rice noodle wrapped shrimp skewers served with sweet chili sauce and they were amazing! I cannot wait to go back and get the basil chicken. I also chatted with the owner/cook and she was terrific. Ten minutes later I had all my food ready to go — great place!

Been to Tonis Taste of Thai over 12 times in the last year. Honestly to begin with I thought that they were okay when they first opened. I usually base my opinion on the pad thai an establishment serves; if you can’t even make pad thai then there is a problem with the chef. The summer rolls used to be a disappointment. They are a hit or miss now. The last 5 times I have gone have been in the last 2 months. I must say the pad thai is pretty damn good when Annette is there. When she is not there the pad thai is trashable. The number 5(tom kai gai?) is wonderful all the time and at a great price of $ 5.50 including jasmine rice. Typically sonewhere else this dish is 6 to 10 dollars and doesn’t include rice, so, good for Toni’s. Their peanut sauce is really good I just think they skimp on some of it sometimes. When I go I normally order the pad thai, summer rolls, and the tom ka gai with rice, and its great for my partner and I. Limited choices in Arcata for Thai, it surely beats Bencharong Thai near Safeway for prices. I make my own traditional Thai tea at home, so more savings there! Overall, Im a fan, but it helps that I live only a stone’s throw away from this place.

This place gets an extra star for being one of the only spots in town for Thai food. Their food is consistently delicious, generous, and quick. I especially recommend the tom kha gai — it’s made with lots of Kaffir lime leaf and Galangal, and nice white meat chicken. I have tried their curries, their fried shrimp, their Pad Thai(ask for both shrimp & chicken — Yum!), and their chicken skewers with peanut sauce. Their sauces definitely run on the spicier side(including their cucumber salad) so if you don’t like that be careful. The service is friendly and the location is beyond convenient for those of us out east/in north arcata. You can eat outside(there’s a few tables under a shelter and a few more out on a lawn in the corner of the parking lot) or you can take your food into Toni’s — mostly I am taking it to go though… Note: They only take cash or checks, there is an ATM inside Toni’s though, so it’s not a big deal if you forget. Their prices are not great, but acceptable — and definitely cheaper than the other Thai place.

This is a update: I have given them 4 months and I went back… My original review will remain unchanged. The owners of Tonis clearly have made a massive mistake in opening a Thai food truck in their parking lot. They have no idea how to prepare or balance Thai flavors and seasonings. We have given them three shots now over 9 months. The first time we went we had Pad Thai, Curry and Spring rolls. Clearly they buy from Sysco foods. Everything came from cans, nothing was fresh, there were no fresh vegetables in the vegetable curry, It consisted of bamboo shoots and smelled like bamboo shoots. It tasted like raw curry paste, bamboo shoots and nothing more. The spring rolls were flavorless and mushy, I do believe they used canned vegetables to make the egg rolls and then fried them into a mushy flavorless paste inside the outer roll wrapper. The pad thai tasted too sweet, noodles were overcooked and had a strange bizarre flavor to it. We LOVE Thai food and have had it from LA to Portland… This was by far the worst in 30 years of traveling and eating out and should be missed. Despite this strong opinion, My partner said, lets give them a third chance. The food was so out of balance and the preparation clearly done at the hands of an amateur cook that we spit out our first bite and tossed our plates in the trash can. Inedible garbage. Oh and the photos on this review page… yeah that is not at all what ours looked like, we were served about 2 cups of rice each and 1 cup of curry heavily laden again with canned Bamboo shoots, basil and onions. We ordered satay, and it was basically 12 –1 inch chunks of roughly cut cubes of overcooked chicken breast rolled in curry powder served with a peanut sauce that was translucent in color and very very sweet. It was strange… Dinner was $ 24.00 and not worth it at all. Stick with what you know Tonis or shut down the truck till you can hire a proper thai cooking team, or send your head cook to study cooking Thai food in SFO or LA. We will not go back any time soon to the truck, STICKWITHWHATYOUKNOW… truck stop burgers, decent middle of the night and wee hour breakfasts, giant tasty cookies, cobbler, brownies or onion rings. You do it so well.

Meh… The spring rolls were tasteless, no spices or peanuts, not even mint. We added chicken, which wasn’t great(same chicken as below). The vegetarian curry was spicy(good taste), but consisted almost entirely of canned bamboo shoots(no onions, no potatoes, no peppers…) The spicy chicken? Chicken was precooked and flavorless, peppers and onions ok but undercooked, and generally not spiced well. Rice was somewhat raw /undercooked. Or maybe just old and reheated. Sweet potato fries were good! Salt and pepper on the table would be nice.

Eh, ok. I had the red curry chicken. Wasn’t bad but won’t try that dish again. My husband had the spring rolls with sweet chili dipping sauce, which was yum. I may just not be a fan of Thai food, if I go again I’ll try something else. Service was good, cook was friendly.

My husband and I eat at Toni’s about once month and have done so for years. Never had a bad meal, so when they opened this food truck we gave it a try. My husband ordered a meat dish and I ordered vegetarian. His came with 2 cups of rice and some veggies with a few small strips of meat. Mine came with some veggies that were sautéed to the point of being dry and half the box(I am not kidding) was raw mung bean sprouts. For the two boxes of to-go we paid $ 19.00. I was not impressed and we will not return for seconds. It was a rip-off in our opinion. I will admit the barely moist peanut sauce had a decent flavor but what is with the sprouts??? No sauce, uncooked, just two cups of raw sprouts. NOTGOOD

I’m giving them five stars pretty much for just serving Thai food in Arcata. Apart from that, it’s also descent. I had yellow curry, pad Thai, and sweet potato fries… The servings were large, though I managed to regrettably eat most of that. The sweet potato fries with peanut satay sauce were really good. I could tell the oil was clean and fresh, even though I was there only 40 minutes before closing. The Pad Thai was the least impressive item in my opinion, though I’ve never really cared that much for the dish anyway. The ladies that worked there were also really nice and friendly. I would highly recommend adding this to one’s lunch or dinner considerations.
