Hampton Inn & Suites Arcata

This hotel is Marriott nice BUT the prices are extremely steep! I’ve stayed over 40 days in hotels this year so I have some experience with hotel pricing. This location really take advantage of the fact that there is not Marriott to compete with. For a standard room 170?!? $ 200 after tax. I can stay at the nicest Courtyard in Santa Rosa for 130 after tax. Be careful too since they will place you in a more expensive room unless you clarify you want the standard.

We unfortunately got a bit lost on our morning hike and returned at 11:30 past the check out time unfortunately, to find our room door open, maids and carts outside the room. I get they haven’t much work at this location but to leave a room door wide open when someone’s personal belongings are in the room is absolutely incomprehensible.

I’m usually a Marriott guy since 90% of my travel is on business. In Aracta there is no Marriott property so I went with this place and scored a few Hilton Honors points.
We were in the week of Thanksgiving and it was a little light on occupancy. The property seems fairly new and was well maintained and clean. Our room was spotless and spacious.
The front desk was manned by Darren (sp?) and he was courteous and professional. I inquired about places to eat and he suggested Mazzotti’s near the downtown plaza as a good place for kids and he was spot on (see other review).
A note on that, this property is about two miles north of the «downtown» Arcata area. While its only about three or four minutes in a car it does separate you from the plaza action.
We took our kids to enjoy the indoor pool after dinner, a great way to relax in a long road trip.
The free breakfast in the morning was staffed by nice ladies who kept everything full, made easier no doubt by the light occupancy. But the food was good and fresh and filling.
If in Arcata and in need of a clean, quiet and friendly hotel this place is worth a shot.

The check in process when I arrived was very slow and annoying, can someone please help the black at the front. He was very helpful but their is only so much he can do. The breakfasts was good and different compare to other places I have stayed at.

This was probably one of the nicer hotels I’ve ever stayed at. I was piloting a charter out of KACV, so I only stayed one night.
The staff was friendly and the room was huge, and immaculate. There were a few places to eat nearby and a 24 hour Kmart not to far away.

Booked a few rooms at Government/​military rate because of course, I was on official Government travel. What does the manager do? She turns around and changes the rate behind our backs to the regular rate without informing any of us. Called the corporate office and she bullshits her way into not honoring the rate after I complained about the issue. On top of that she charges me one extra night after I cancelled one of the rooms. I explained to her that I went downstairs in person and talked to someone at the front desk to cancel the room and she pretty much called me a liar without actually saying it to my face. Once again I call the corporate office to complain and she bullshits her way into not refunding me $ 160+ dollars for a room that I cancelled. I have stayed at multiple Hilton chains throughout California and have never experienced such rude and unprofessional service from a Manager. If you want to be treated like garbage feel free to stay at Hampton Inn in Arcata.

Terrible customer service. I’m a loyal Hilton customer and will do everything possible do avoid this property.

Place looks nice enough, but having booked my reservation six months ago, we found the hotel cancelled our reservation he day of our stay and rented out room to someone else leaving a family of 5 to fend for ourselves at a time when all Arcata’s hotels were 100% booked. Wasn’t happy to find this out after a 6-​hour drive from Crater Lake.
From the time I reserved the reservation (6 months ago) to the night of my stay my bank issued me a new credit card so the hotel elected they’d rather drop me the day of our reservation when they tried to pre-​authorize my card the day of our stay at 1pm. They tried to call me but with spotty cell service in Northern CA, we never got the call.
Devon at the desk suggested we drive up the coast and «car camp» and promised we’d be safe (???). He initially tried to help us find an alternate place to stay but mysteriously disappeared when everything in the surrounding area was sold out.
He said he understood our situation but he didn’t, as he doesn’t have 3 kids who were road weary after 6 hours in the car.
Shame on you Hilton and shame on you Hampton Inn and Suites — simply unacceptable. Unsavory business practices, especially when our reservation «guaranteed» a late check in!

I believe this hotel deserves a higher rating than what it has. Helpful and friendly personnel, roomy bathrooms, very comfortable beds.

We loved this hotel! Our room was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful! The breakfast was delicious and had a lot of variety. The muffins were especially good. The amenities in the room were very nice, for example, in addition to the typical shampoo and soap, they stocked the room with mouthwash, cotton balls, q-​tips and nail files. The coffee in the room was yummy also. We would definitely stay here again!

Second stay here. I would have gone four stars if the room price were lower, but at these prices the standards are higher.

Poor wifi throughput, and limited number of simultaneous devices means frequently having to login… hey, two people, four devices, we’re a modern family. And at these prices, wifi shouldn’t be an add on.
Overwhelming smell of dryer sheets. I should have brought my own sheets and towels.

What I found most interesting about this location was their attention to the details of their emergency preparedness… Each stairwell landing, above the ground floor, has a «place of refuge» with a phone; and exit signs are installed both above and at the floor level of the emergency exits. It’s great to see a company so committed to its emergency planning and preparedness. Here’s hoping they don’t ever have to test their disaster plan but if they do, they seem to be way ahead of the curve.

After staying in this hotel last week, I woke up in the morning with itchy welts all over my body. At first I thought it was because of a mosquito or something in the room, but when I got home a couple of days later, my wife said they were from bed bugs and then showed me pictures from the internet that pretty much confirmed her suspicions.
I try and only stay in Hilton brand hotels because I (used to) trust that they were clean. They are usually more expensive, but I choose them for peace of mind. I travel a lot and am rethinking my loyalty program right now.
As I write this, I’m five days into this and my welts and itchiness do not seem to be going away. If this doesn’t get better by tomorrow, I’m heading over to the doctor.
I’ve still got my luggage from this trip in plastic trash bags in our garage as I try and figure out how to ensure I don’t infest our home.
So far, I let the people at the front desk know that I woke up itchy when I checked out, and once I confirmed that these did look like bedbug bites and that what I am feeling is the same that is described by others who have gotten bedbugs, I called the main Hilton line to let them know about what is happening. They told me (and sent me an e-​mail to confirm) that someone would be calling me within 72 hours to follow up. It’s been about 20 hours since I called and I haven’t heard anything else.
I’ll update if/​how they remedy this situation. In the meantime, I’ve got two weeks of travel coming up… not sure where I’ll be booking my lodging yet.
It’s hard enough to travel for work without having to worry about this kind of crap.

They did an inspection and they were unable to locate anything in the room or on the property. I do sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused but we did not find anything that would have created these bites that you have. I will never stay at this hotel! Even before we arrived, the staff called and said there was a problem with our card… I have stayed in hundreds of hotels around this country and I have never dealt with the rudeness of this woman. She informed me I had until 11am to get my account right or the room would be given away. I then called a hotel 10 min away booked a room, with no problems and called her back and canceled. Told her that she was unprofessional and we would never stay at a Hampton Inn after this. Go Best Western!!!

I stayed here for 3 nights and my stay here was amazing. The rooms and bathrooms were clean.
The breakfast every morning was awesome. There was a selection of items from eggs, bacon, maple sausage, pork sausage and some bagel bite thing. This part was different each morning so it was a nice change. There were always hard boiled eggs available each morning as well. Fruit, cereal, waffles, english muffins, pound cake, other types of muffins. There was such a great selection each morning it was better than other nice hotels I’ve stayed at.
The parking is free and easy. Only thing is that it is kind of isolated from everything else so there aren’t really great dining options right near the place.
But that’s the only thing bad about the place that I can think of.
What’s weird was the 2 queens was cheaper than just 1 king or 1 queen.

Clean rooms, friendly staff, breakfast is included in the room price. One of the nicer hotels in the immediate area.
Breakfast is pretty mediocre even for the usual complimentary breakfast. Elevator is crazy slow. Wi-​Fi worked very well and is complimentary.
I paid $ 150 including room tax, would stay again but I’d like to see that number around $ 110.

This would have been a 5 star review, except for the very rude, inhospitable reception upon our arrival. 30 years of traveling for business and I have never even heard of anything like our experience yesterday. We walked in the front door just before 5 pm, gave the very nice gentleman at the front desk my name when an obnoxiously loud woman from behind the desk spoke up and interjected «well its a good thing you’re here; I almost canceled your reservation!» Taken a back at the abruptness of this intrusion I was able to ask «why?» to which she spouted off some term indicating that my credit card had not gone through. I explained that the other party with me was paying for their own room and that I had used a credit card to hold the rooms only when I’d made the reservation the previous month, and that I was using a different card to pay for the room. She continued again, loudly, which was quite humiliating, stating «No, I have to have a valud card to cover two nights, including tax.» I quickly gave her my card because she clearly was going to continue announcing this until she had payment. It was a terrible experience. I was stunned. In retrospect, I should have walked out the door. And if I had, I would have missed a great hotel. It’s very nice, clean and every other person I’ve interacted with has been exceptionally pleasant and professional. The management needs to consider retraining this one person, or offer her the door. She is a terrible representative for a fantastic hotel.
The beds are very comfortable and the breakfast is superior. In addition to the usual continental breakfast offerings, they had make your own waffles, as well as scrambled eggs, freshly sliced fruit, biscuits with sausage gravy and roasted red skin potatoes.
You will find the price higher at this hotel than any other that I know of in Arcata, but if you can afford it, I highly recommend it. Just don’t use a credit card that you’ve recently run up the balance on, because you do not want a run in with this horrible woman… it can ruin your night’s sleep.

We checked in yesterday Afternoon on our trip up the coast. We almost stayed in eureka but decided to drive a bit further north. We used the tripadvisor app to find this place and liked the reviews. We were immediately greeted but a nice guy. With tax the room came to $ 158, room 320. The hotel looks new and the room was very clean and tidy. The room and bathroom are very spacious. We had a slight problem with the tv, had to pull the plug and reset if a few times. The breakfast which was included was nice, eggs, bacon, potatoes, muffins, bagels, toast, oatmeal, waffles, etc. There is 24 coffee available too. Everyone here us very friendly, it’s a young and enthusiastic staff.
