Best steakhouse in Ann Arbor and outside areas. I’ve tried them all. Fantastic service, Morgan was great. Will always return here if in the mood for top of line steak.

We went there again during the restaurant week, since one of my friends told me that they offer wagyu during the restaurant week, and they love it. During the restaurant week, the courses were: salad as the first course, either wagyu or salmon as second course, and chocolate decadence as third course. My husband had the wagyu, and I had the salmon, since I’m not a fan of red meat. We also ordered the lamb lollipop as an appetizer. He loved the lamb lollipop. He said it perfectly seasoned and well cooked. The salad was fine. Some spring mix, walnuts, cherries and some soft cheese. Nothing special. Then there came the main course: the wagyu steak and the salmon. My salmon was cooked very well; moist and cooked to perfection. The wagyu, however, was a huge disappointment. The meat was tough and very chewy. Nothing like what we’d expect from wagyu beef, which is said to melt in your mouth. My husband commented on how tough it was that it was even hard to cut with the steak knife he was given. He said a decent piece of beef from Costco would have made a much better steak. The dessert, chocolate decadence, was good. Probably a smaller piece/slice than their usual portion, though. I’ve had their dessert before, and the portion was huge! The basket of bread from Zingerman was pretty nice. Our waitress, Frannie, was super nice and personable, and that’s why I’m giving it 3 stars instead of 2, otherwise, the meal itself was pretty disappointing, from my husband’s point of view. I also wish they offer more options during the restaurant week. Having a «set» first and third course and only being able to choose the main course was kinda lame.

One of the few places I’ve rated on multiple sites. It’s the best damn food in Ann Arbor, period. And you cannot beat the 50% off birthday deal for two. A dinner that would have normally cost $ 200 was taken down to $ 119! While most other Main st restaurants will honor the same discount, if you want the best food Ann Arbor has to offer, you might as well come here. They don’t, however, include drinks, desserts, or cigars in their discount so be aware of that before you come. All the portion sizes are HUGE, I was really surprised. I expected the typical expensive slivers of food that you pretend to get full up on, but we ordered two sides and had to take both to go because there was too much food to eat. Ordered the Filet Mignon 11oz(Oscar style) and it was huge(worth paying the extra 3 dollars for the 11oz). I would order it plain next time, as the lobster and sauce wasn’t necessary at all. Ordered the lamb chops for an appetizer, they were pretty good but I wouldn’t personally order them again. And the lobster bisque was to die for. I was also pretty worried originally about the seating, I have read plenty of reviews that say the seating is really tight and crowded, but I found this was not the case at all. It’s very average seating, if you’re comfortable eating in other restaurants, you’ll be comfortable here. However if you prefer booth style restaurants, this may not be the place for you as there is limited booth spaces available. Overall, A+. The staff was agreeable and very casual to talk to, no one was uptight or stuffy, it’s a very friendly relaxed atmosphere. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for something a little extra special, especially on their birthday!(They also, btw, will honor the birthday discount the day after/before if your birthday falls on a holiday in which they are closed for). UPDATE: I have been here *several* times since my first review and nothing has changed in my opinion. I’ve had everything from the steak, to the chicken and fish. Most of the appetizers and several of the drinks. It’s a consistently fantastic dining experience.

What a disappointment! We expected an amazing dinner, but it was not. We were seated 20 minutes later than our actual reservation time. After ordering, it took more than 30 minutes to get any food. Waiter was unfriendly and brief. Did not explain the menu, did not discuss specials, was grumpy the entire time and disappeared for long periods of time. Never asked us how the food was. Since he did not ask, I will share: steak was ok, fish was overcooked. Sides were too salty. Portions were very generous, I must say, but quality was below average. Such a negative experience. We will not go back.

I ordered the filet and a side of spinach with garlic The filet was good, I tried to order between a medium and medium well, but it was cooked a little too much for my liking(totally my fault-Should have ordered a medium rare). But the filet was good. Not sure if it was good enough for the price. But better than most steaks I’ve had. The spinach was too buttery and salty. So i wouldn’t order it again. I would try the potatoes. My sever was very nice, but when I was first seated, it took a while to get to me… but I’m pretty sure she was busy with another table… I feel like the hostesses should have gotten me some water, or at least checked in on me to assure me my waitress was on her way, but instead they looked at my table then looked away. They should have offered since they weren’t really doing much at that time. Would I come back? I’m not sure. I really wanted to like this place more, but I’m big on the service experience and Although my waitress was great, the first person(s) you meet are hostesses. And unfortunately, I think for this kind of place, they should have been more friendly.

A great option for night of celebration in Ann Arbor. The inattentive and inadequate hostess was the only downside to our dining experience. The server brought out the chef to accommodate a dietary request for a member of our party and both were extremely kind and accommodating. The espresso filet mignon and barbecue salmon were absolutely delicious. German chocolate cake and raspberry cheesecake for dessert. Save room for the dessert — it’s worth it!

Great place with a great vibe. The food was also excellent. Although it is expensive you can still dine on a budget if you opt to get appetizers because the plates are pretty large. This is a steak house so go for the steak if you can afford it. This place has a nice bar and cool, mellow seating area downstairs isolated from the main seating area upstairs. The service is also great with the servers waiting on your every movement haha I will be back here in the future. One unique thing about this place was the menu. They give you iPads to look at your food. Very clever and cool as each dish has the image of what it is.

Went there for a friend’s birthday to use the 50% off birthday discount. Definitely worth waiting until it’s someone’s birthday to go. The place is very fancy so make sure to dress up. It’s a top notch high end restaurant. I am not a big steak eater so I got crab cakes instead. They were delicious. Everyone else got stakes and really enjoyed them. I would not have payed full price for this place and am giving 4 stars for this price range of food. Otherwise if it was cheaper and same quality definitely a 5 star place :)

There’s not much I can add that other Unilocal reviews haven’t already covered — this place is pricey(entrees $ 30+) and the food isn’t the best I’ve ever tasted, but it has a really good dining environment for anniversaries and birthday dinners with the significant other. They do have a couple of affordable appetizers including the brussels sprouts and bacon, which was delicious, but I didn’t find the Beef Wellington to be that special — it was good but not good enough to go back when it wasn’t my birthday. The service was great and their servers knew how to be respectfully distant but also available. I haven’t dined here enough to make a firm recommendation, but I’ll likely be back again next year.

One of my favorite steak restaurants on the east side. Nothing crazy different but everything they do it done right and well. Service is fantastic and seating Is cozy. Best deal is 50% off for birthday. But it has to be on your actual birthday. Keep that in mind. Not day after. I’ve made that mistake before. And that’s all I have to say about that. Jackée

I have been here only once as everyone told me you have to go just to experience it, I have been to many nice places like the chop house before, I feel the price is a bit much for what you get I feel like I was paying more for the name then the actual service and meal but overall was a great time.

If you want melt in your mouth filet, vegetables sone perfectly, then this is the restaurant you need to eat at. Service was impeccable in terms of explanation of their meats and seafood, wine pairings, and attention. Joshua was our server and he was outstanding. I had the 8 oz filet stuffed with a crab cake with goat cheese melted on top. My husband had the NY strip and our daughter had 2 chops. All pieces of meat were extremely flavorful. For sides we ordered sautéed mushrooms, asparagus topped with parmesan cheese strips and Brussels sprouts. The vegetables were al dente cooked to perfection. The food is quite pricey but well worth it.

Doneen was probably the best waitress we’ve ever had. She was extremely attentive, and made sure that we were happy with every aspect of our meal. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was perfect for a romantic meal. I really don’t think things could have gone any better. Thank you, Doneen, for making sure our first experience here at The Chop House was better than we ever could’ve asked for. We’ll be sure to be back next month for my birthday!

Food and service wise you’ll find none better. The servers here are among the most knowledgeable and kind servers you’ll find. The chop house truly treats you like a king. There are no bad dishes either. Unfortunately rightly or wrongly you pay for all this. This is among the most expensive restaurants that I have ever been to. All menu options are a la carte. This is fine except for that the cheapest entrée is $ 30. The sides are also expensive. I wouldn’t come here with any more than my wife. This won’t be a family dining option for us considering the prices. But it sure is a a great place to dine if you can fit it into your budget.

One of the best steak places anywhere. From the atmosphere, service to the iPad menus… a well run restaurant with great food. Definitely order the calamari even if you are not a fan. the way it is prepared with the sauce is fantastic. All the streaks are great. my favorite is the rib eye perfectly cooked to the right temperature and very tender. It is a must visit whenever I am in Ann Arbor.

Everything was amazing. My wife and I celebrated her birthday(can’t beat the 50% off birthday deal!) through a series of gluttonous decisions. We ate complimentary ribs, the cheese platter, lobster bisque, waygu delmonico, rack of lamb, decadent chocolate dessert and a few cocktails and some espresso. Like I said. Gluttony. Everything was amazing. The steak was the best cut of meat I’ve ever tasted. My wife(barely) stopped me from licking the bowl of the lobster bisque. The cocktails were fantastic, service was amazing(props to Nathan!) and food was top notch. Very pricey, but worth it, especially with the fantastic birthday deal.

First review ever, I never actually thought I would write one! The chop house is like entering an episode of the twighlight zone. 1 star is generous… I visited today with my mom on her Bday, was seated immediately(hostess was the highlight). I then waited 20 minutes while our server yapped like a yenta about a bus or something to a group of customers. I asked the water man if anyone planned on serving us, he replied«sometimes the server gets tied up!» Whatever, Ruth’s Chris dominates these amateurs. Nice knowing ya, you’ll be out of business Ina year. Update: the Manager called me last night @ 9pm. She asked about my experience and said that isn’t what the chophouse is about and she wished I had asked for a manager while I was there originally to complain. Then she told me I left a harsh review and she hopes I write an update lol. They didn’t offer any incentive for me to return. I stick by my original review that this place is amateur in the service department, never got a chance to try the food, but service from the floor to the management seems to be lacking common sense. Who calls someone at 9 pm about a review left 5 days ago?

Four of us visited The Chop House for the first time. We read all the reviews and decided to give it a try. From the moment we arrived until our departure almost 3 hours later, everything was exceptional! We had grilled romaine salads, which are large enough to split. It was delicious. For dinner the four of us shared the 11oz filet and their special that evening a boneless 16 oz ribeye. We ordered both prepared medium. We prefer our steaks medium rare, but their medium was done perfectly to our liking. For sides we had asparagus with shaved Parmesan and au gratin potatoes. There was enough asparagus for each of us to have 3 large spears. You get one pound of potatoes! We didn’t even come close to finishing them. Ted our waiter did a fantastic job. We had two great bottles of wine. Their wine list is very extensive and priced as you would expect from a high end restaurant. We finished off by sitting in their lounge area for dessert and port. We shared their pumpkin tart and beignets. Both were out of this world! From start to finish a wonderful night. We will be back to try other items on the menu, as well as sample some of their single malt scotch flights! You will not be disappointed in the service, atmosphere or quality and preparation of your meal! Enjoy.

Went here for their birthday deal. Deal is great(50% for party of 2 with ID showing it’s your actual birthday). TL;DR: go there for the birthday deal and get the appetizers and desserts. Food quality is great, service is great. Huge complaint: No one gave us bread. So weird. Why? Was it the way I dressed? Did I look like I was going low carb or something? More details: Appetizers: Calimari — awesome, with nice crunch and a pleasant sweet sauce Lobster/crab cakes — AMAZING; best part of the meal; so good Lobster bisque — creamy, delicious goodness Entrée: Porterhouse — good steak, but definitely not up there with great steaks I’ve had Scallops added — definitely not worth over $ 5 per scallop. Was basically an avg, run of the mill, scallop on top of the steak. Seemingly no taste or seasoning. Not particularly large either. Very disappointed. Maybe scallops as an appetizer would have been a better choice Dessert: Banana Foster Bread Pudding — DELICIOUS; with a beautiful«Happy Birthday» written in chocolate with a candle in the dessert Service: Amazing; let us switch seats so we could see the pretty pictures; waitress very friendly and took pictures of us. *****Only complaint was that we didn’t get any of the complimentary bread. At first I thought this was just a kind of place that doesn’t serve complimentary bread with the meal. Then, I saw another table have bread and thought maybe they bought the bread and cheese appetizer. Then, as I was leaving, I realized everybody had bread except for us. A friend more familiar with this restaurant later told me the bread is indeed complimentary and awesome. I am really sad I didn’t get any of the complimentary bread. Why chop house why!!!*****

Truly a place meant for celebrating special occasions, or a delicious and indulgent night out. We put in reservations on Open Table, and were seated right away. Surprisingly, this place looked completely packed on a random Monday evening. The server was friendly and helpful, the menu was detailed and had pictures along with drinks/wine pairing suggestions for everything. The ambiance was nice, with all the oil paintings in gilded frames on the wall. Only thing was that the tables seemed rather close to each other, and our two person table felt a bit cramped if you ordered various accompaniments with your entrée. The food was amazing, the pan-seared scallops were done to perfection. The creamy sauce and truffles ragout gave them a nice flavor without being overbearing, and the pan-searing left a nice caramelized outside to the scallops while still very tender on the inside. The cowboy steak was the perfect combination of flavor and tenderness, if you dont mind a more marbly, fatty cut of meat(i.e., where the flavor is at!). I got the simple oil, salt, pepper, and it was delicious, even when I had to ask for it to be done medium-well. The beef wellington was also done perfectly, super tender at medium-rare, with the liver pâté topping, and the puff pastry. Alas, my hubby who typically likes filet mignon though, thought that in comparison to the cowboy, the cowboy had alot more flavor. Because we came for a birthday with the 50% off deal, we also opted to order a few of the sides, which ordinarily, I would think was a bit pricey for the portions, but in this case, was manageable. The asparagus was fine, nothing mindblowing, but we needed a vegetable. The potatoes au gratin was HUGE! I knew it was going to be large, but it seriously was the size of a brick! Definitely portioned to share with at least 4 people! Lastly, for dessert, I was tempted by all their house-made gelatos, but given I was going to hit up 2 other gelato places that night, we opted to share the crème brûlée. It supposedly has won several awards. It was a nice lighter touch to end the night, it was good, but nothing spectacularly different from others I’ve tried. Overall, a fantastic meal and experience, and really tempting to make this an annual tradition!

Great traditional steakhouse food, lovely swanky(yet comfortable) interior, impeccable quality steaks. I’d pass on the chicken or fish offerings as they are usually oversalted. Really an occasion-only restaurant if you don’t make close to 6-figures. The 50% off 2 entrees birthday special is a fantastic value. — The cowboy steak with the crispy onion ring topping is heavenly. — Delicious, silky crème brûlée for dessert… if you’ve the room. ;O)

Definitely, the best Main Street Venture and furthermore, one of the best restaurants on Main Street! The ambiance is typical steakhouse — Dark and handsome. And, true to form, the food is the usual steakhouse fare of steaks, salads and sides a la carte with a few offerings that depart from the norm, such as their sweet potato casserole that will transport you to Thanksgiving heaven. Everything that I have ever ordered, from seafood to steaks, has been well executed. I have a tiny gripe that the baked potato does not come with bacon or cheese, but that has hardly deterred me from dining here. Service has always been incredibly friendly both at the bar and table service. Overall, a great spot for a special occasion dinner or when you are just in the mood for a steak!

I never understood the hype. Their food is mediocre & overpriced. I came here couple times throughout this year and I like their desserts. However, their steaks are so mediocre. The free bread is ok… nothing special. I don’t like the cowboy steak and the lamb chops. The cowboy steak is a little dry and the lamb chops is just so… average. The only steak I like is the tuna.(I forgot the name of this steak though). However, I love their appetizers and desserts. I especially LOVE the crab cake. The crab cake here is absolutely DELICIOUS! But the crab cake is an appetizer and over $ 30… the portions are really small and not filling at all. As for desserts, I love their tiramasu, chocolate cake, and crème brule. There are so many other restaurants in Ann Arbor that serve better steaks… I don’t understand the hype. I’ll only come back for the crab cake and the beautiful décor.

Handsome option in this quaint little college town. On the main strip of night life and eateries where peeps go to see and be seen… Eating. Great veggie options but it’s a steak and fish place. Elegant without pretension. Great service and knowledgeable wait staff. I O still don’t get why they slumped in the flat breads… They brought 4 at a time to a table of 9. They have Sancerre and that’s the show of a good table for me anyway :). One of the best places to dine in town.

Chophouse is a great place to go for an exquisite experience. The wait staff is very respectful and attends to your every need. The biggest problem is the price. As a result, I only come here on my birthday for the 50% discount. The steaks are delicious and accompaniments are generously portioned. I recommend the garlic mashed potatoes and three cheese mac and cheese. It’s definitely worth an experience so try this spot either on your birthday, restaurant week, or somebody else’s birthday. Stop by for desserts at La Dolce Vita as well. 5⁄5 service. 4⁄5 taste and portions. 3⁄5 price.

My fella had a gift card for here and we decided, a few days after a tree fell on our house a few months ago, that we really really needed steaks and booze. So away we went. First off, the Chop House interior if fancy. It’s dark and intimate. Perfect for a quiet night out. The menu is overwhelming in a good way. Lots of meaty goodness to choose from. Seafood heavy apps(shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, etc), 8 different kinds of steaks, pork chops, lamb and venison. And plenty of the aforementioned seafood. It’s pricey. And the sides aren’t included with the steak price but they are generously portioned so you can order a few for the table to split. I ordered cowboy steak, I can’t remember exactly what the cut entailed but it was nice and marbled, juicy and cooked/served with the bone in. It’s about 20 oz so it’s good to split or take home for leftovers. We also ordered the garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus to split. The mashed potatoes in particular were fantastic. But being that I’ve got a wicked sweet tooth my favorite part of the evening was the delicious La Dolce Vita desserts and martinis. You can take them at your table or move downstairs to the LDV lounge. This time we opted to stay but I do love a visit to LDV and its comfortable lounge-y feel. I personally got the chocolate melt cake which I loved but I did find myself going for my fella’s candy bar(a take on a snickers bar) just as much as my own. Service was impeccable. The place is formal but not stuffy. A great place to celebrate a special occasion or just splurge on a Tuesday night after a particularly tough week.
