I just don’t trust them. I got my front brakes done here less than 6 months ago and after just a couple months I ended up with a wobble while braking. When I took it in to a different shop, I was told that my brake pads and rotors were already shot.
Because Ann Arbor Muffler warrants their brake work, I brought it back in. They only replaced the rotors not the pads. While I understand that the rotors may have been the only portion that merited repair, no attempt was made at explaining what was wrong. They never said, «We only replaced your rotors because the pads checked out ok.» In fact, they seemed wary of any kind of communication at all, perhaps because it made them mad that I was getting warranty service.
They are also slow. I dropped my car off at 8am and it wasn’t done until almost 5. They overbook and encourage everyone to arrive at 8am (parking there is a nighmare) and then they don’t ask you when you need your vehicle back. So if you do go here, be very very clear that you don’t want your vehicle to sit all day. Especially because getting a call at 5 for a shop that closes at 530 almost certainly means your car is going to have to sit there overnight.
Finally, they are rude. As I’ve already said, they don’t make an effort to explain the work they do. Overall they are extremely terse and don’t seem cared about making a personal connection with their customers.

Got my brakes done here on a recent Saturday and what a professional, quick, & affordable job!!! I brought my car in at 8 a.m. and they were done with it by 11:30 a.m.!! Also, they quoted me some other front end work that is needed and although I didn’t have it done at the time I thought the pricing for that was also very fair. I’ll be coming back here when my car needs service, that’s for sure!!!

We needed a muffler or some under car work for our 2001 Honda CRV. Years ago I had gone to Ann Arbor muffler to get my muffler replaced on my other cars but in the last 12 years I haven’t needed a muffler After going to the Honda dealer I decided to go to Ann Arbor muffler. they looked at the car decided that it only needed pipes and not The muffler. It was done in just an hour or so and at a very reasonable price. Thank you to Ivory and the guys at Ann Arbor muffler for doing great local work.
By the way they also do brakes and oil changes too.

Used their service a few times. No problems with the job. I think there prices were fair.

I was there for the first time today and I will be a repeat customer. The work was done perfectly and the staff was great (Ivory, the manager, even asked if I wanted to order breakfast with the guys while waiting for my repairs to be done). I had a chance to watch them with several customers, both new and repeat, and it’s easy to see why they have been around as long as they have. I usually don’t write reviews but believe in giving credit where credit is due.

They replaced my complicated muffler system perfectly and even had to do some fabrication on the resonator part for my BMW 735iL. Thank you!

The BEST local exhaust shop period. I had some custom exhaust (Borla XR-​1 with 3″ y-​pipe) work done on my 2012 Buick Regal GS and I am impressed of the quality and craftsmanship. Tony is an excellent fabricator and installer! Ivory and Scott are very friendly and easy to talk to! I highly recommend this family owned shop.

This week, I took my wife’s car in to a local Midas for an oil change and to have them check out some clunking and rough driving in the right front tire. When I picked it up, they claimed I needed the leaky struts and sway bar links replaced, a $ 700+ repair. I took the car in to Ann Arbor Muffler for a second opinion, where they not only said that the struts were fine — not leaking at all! — but it was some bushings that were bad and causing the problem. $ 81 later, her car was back on the road, quiet and stable.
This is the same shop that put a car up on their hoists for a mechanic to give it a safety check when we were thinking of buying it, where they showed me over $ 4000 in «making it road safe» repairs needed for a car the dealership was selling «as is» for $ 4000. This is the same shop that called one of their buddies’ places to see if they had an opening to get me in that day, since they didn’t do the work I needed. Ivory has been mentioned in other reviews, and I have to tip my hat to him as well — he’s as pleasant a fella as you’ll ever meet behind the counter, and is a straight shooter to boot.
These guys are the «local shop» that I missed after moving to the Ann Arbor area years ago, and they will definitely have my business as long as they stay true to what they’re doing now.

This place is possibly the best shop I’ve ever been to. Reasonable, friendly and fast. I had a muffler replaced, a front-​end alignment and an oil change. These guys made quick work of it after a short wait for another customer’s vehicle to be finished.
Also, there was open wifi that I used without asking, so they MIGHT have wifi.

i have been going to Ann Arbor Muffler for over 15+ years and it is the only place i go.
They know their business and they use parts that have stood the test of time. They may not be the cheapest shop but they stand behind everything they do and i would much rather support this local family business that treats me like family. i have already experienced the «chains» and been steered wrong more than once. (The fact that Tuffy down the road from this shop went out of business should tell you something!) i live on a dirt road and it is murder on brakes. They could have said nothing but instead they suggested that i come in every 3 – 4 months for an inspection and if needed, they will clean them up for a small fee. My rear brakes usually last 80,000−100,000 miles because of their suggestion. Also, i realize that it is not Ann Arbor Mufflers fault that some cars have bad suspension or brake designs that have shorter life cycles or more expensive replacement parts. So, I do not take it out on the people trying to take care of my car needs. You can trust these guys will do it right.

Fast, friendly, informative, budget-​minded — these guys could have convinced me that a much more expensive fix was necessary, but the manager gave me 2 affordable options and showed me exactly what was going on and explained why. They fixed it in an hour and got me back on the road. I’m usually the suspicious type, and Ann Arbor Muffler gave me no reason to be. A big relief!

i have to say, this was one of the best repair experiences I’ve had. I’m from Pittsburgh and was in AA visiting my son who goes to U of M. I noticed that my tailpipe was making a lot of noise, and got out to check it and saw that the tailpipe had separated from the muffler. I wasn’t sure if it was a pipe problem or a clamp problem.
Being from out of town, I had no idea where to go, so I found AA Muffler on Unilocal.I was worried because I drive an Infiniti — not exactly a GM or Toyota in terms of parts availability. I took it in on Monday morning at around 10am, the day I was planning to leave to head back to Pittsburgh. They were very nice, and put it right up on the lift. After doing an inspection, they brought me in to show me the problem, which actually was a flange broken off the pipe that the clamp would grab onto, so it would probably require an entirely new pipe.
The guy went into his office to make some calls, and came back to tell me that, just as he had feared, there was no aftermarket part. He told me they could probably get the new part from Infiniti, which would run around $ 800, or they could take out the clamp completely and weld a small pipe piece in there and it would last probably a good 2 – 3 years, for a lot less money and time.
A half hour and $ 60 later I was on the road. I can’t say enough about this place, and I wish I had a garage near me that was this honest and reliable.

I went to some chain mechanic place before I headed to Ann Arbor Muffler and pretty much all I got was an annoyed look and a gruff «we don’t do that here.» I pass A2 Muffler pretty frequently so I took my car there for some urgent repairs. The guys who work there are nice and helpful; they didn’t treat me differently because I’m a woman and they took the time to show me and explain to me what was wrong. They are a bit pricey, but their work is quick and they seem to have your best interest in mind. i.e., I need a new rim because mine is dented inside. The manager called up another place to get a used one and when it came, it too was dented. He could have just put it in the car anyway – I wouldn’t have noticed. But he said that he wouldn’t install it on his car and he won’t on mine. He gave me some quotes for new rims and in a few weeks, I’ll head back there to get them installed. Very happy with the service!

I took my car here because the car wouldn’t start after sitting all night. I would have to jump the car in the morning and then it would be fine the rest of the day.
I took it to them and they checked the battery and said the battery was fine. They told me there was a short in the car door latch that was causing the battery to drain overnight. I got that fixed for just over $ 50.
A couple days later my battery was dead again. I took it back it and they told me they checked the battery again and this time the battery wasn’t in good shape. They quoted my $ 140 to change the battery. I went to Meijer and changed it in the Home Depot parking lot for about $ 60.
I ended up giving them $ 50 for nothing and had to take my car back to them after having got faulty information from them in the first place.

I was very pleased with the service, straightforward communication and pricing of Ann Arbor Muffler. These guys know what they’re doing and aren’t trying to get rich off of every customer. They installed my (customer supplied) Quick-​Struts without complaint and for far less than anyone else in the area.
You don’t get to have such a cool (OLD) vintage sign without being around for a while, and Ann Arbor Muffler is on track to be there for a long time to come. My new fave! (And I’m a mechanic, myself!)

Trustworthy. Dependable. Honest. We have been bringing our vehicles here for a few years now for honest, friendly, and courteous service. The dealership was fixing one of our cars for a warrantied parit and they came up with a list of $ 2500 of repairs that «had» to be done. The same week, worried, I brought my vehicle to AA Muffler for an oil change and asked them to check the car out for issues. Everything looked great, even the brakes. They are very honest, and will tell you if your vehicle is unsafe and needs the work, or if it should be done within a certain time frame. This helps a lot for those of us on a budget! It’s also nice to know they aren’t up-​charging me because I’m female. I’ve also met customers in their waiting room that have been going there for over 10 years!

My family has been taking our cars to Ann Arbor Muffler (foreign and domestic) for years, and for the most part they’ve always treated us right. For brakes and exhaust, they’re the only place I’d bother to go. They usually under-​charge for labor (in my opinion). Repairs are fast, and you can watch everything through a glass window in the office. They usually have everything in-​stock, though I had to wait a day on a part for my Honda once. Ivory, who I always see working at the counter, is friendly and takes the time to explain what’s up with the car.
My brother had an incident with them failing to resolve a vibration issue surrounding an alignment they gave him, but that’s the only problem we’ve had in years of business. Also the parking lot is cramped, and depending on traffic, it can be perilous to access.
They’re definitely worth checking out for a first or second opinion.

I had gone to a few other places in Ann Arbor, all of which I can tell you to avoid. This place is no amazing find, but it’s the best place I know of in Ann Arbor to get a n oil change or other minor work done. They have been honest with me about the car’s needs (meaning that they haven’t found surprising and expensive to fix problems) and I can get a thorough fluid check and oil change for about $ 32 in about 30 minutes.
I’ve even called them with some problems in the past and they’ve been able to solve my problem over the phone by giving me instructions. These are features of most mechanic shops I’ve visited outside Ann Arbor, that’s why It’s nothing special on the grand scale. But these features (honest, fast, reasonable, personable, etc) are super-​rare among mechanics in Ann Arbor. But I don’t think they are cheap in general, and from what I’ve seen while waiting for my car to be done my experience may not be typical. I keep having good experiences here, but I’ve also not used them for anything major.
