Specialties

Holy Trinity and Saint Benedict (HTSB) is a family oriented Church in the Episcopal diocese of Los Angeles. Sunday services are held at 11:00 am in mixed style incorporating traditional Episcopalian Liturgy, reading of the Bible, preaching, corporate prayer, communion, and various forms of music including traditional hymns, contemporary praise and worship, and instrumental and voice solos by our youth. Sunday school is available for younger children typically 5 to 16 during most Sunday services with the forth Sunday of the month designated as youth Sunday. The youth lead the praise and worship and some of the liturgy on youth Sunday. A luncheon fellowship is held in hall after every Sunday Service from approximately 12:30 to 2:30 pm. We also have various youth, men’s, and women’s groups that meet some Sundays typically after the luncheon fellowship. Various small group Bible Study and prayer groups meet at church on Sunday and Friday evenings as well as in homes during the week.

History

Established in 1913.

An Episcopal mission in Alhambra began in 1891, called the Mission of the Cross. The name of the mission was later changed to «Holy Trinity Mission» and in 1908 it moved to its present location on Garfield and Grand Ave. The mission developed rapidly and in 1913 was incorporated as a parish, under the Rev. L.M. Idleman, who was succeeded that same year by the Rev. Milton S. Runkle who served Holy Trinity through 1929. During the term of Rev. David Scovil, 1946 to 1953 and with the leadership of Judge Herbert Farrell, plans were made for a new church building, a parish hall, rectory, and the acquisition of additional land space. However, it was during the tenure of the Rev. Harold T. Hultgren from 1953 to 1983, that the actual purchase of additional land and the building of a new church and a parish hall were actually done. The current parish Hall was completed in 1950 with the present church cathedral being completed in 1963. See web site for more details.
