Le Tastevin Fine Wines

I do not know why this place is receiving such high reviews. The store has recently closed. The management was very poor there. Customer service lacked attention to details.
There is only one person working at the store at a time. However, the salesperson tended to help people that were just browsing. I was looking for a very specific wine for a specific dinner and not only did the shop not have what I was looking for; he didn’t offer to help me find a different one that would be suitable. Their selection of wines was also problematic because they featured some low-​end budget American lines next to very well-​regarded European wines. There was no continuity in their product. It looked like they sourced whatever they could get their hands on as a new and young buyer.
On the plus side, the shop was the only store nearby to sell Bell’s beer from Michigan and they hosted frequent evening tastings.
I visited the shop several times if not a dozen times. I like to support local businesses as I am a local. But, their service always fell short. I even emailed the owner two or three times and she never replied to my email.
Technically, I guess you have not lost a customer because your shop went out of business!

We are moving to the DC area and stopped by this spot. I can check off my list that this neighborhood has a friendly and helpful wine shop that shares my interest in finding great values from around the world. I’m looking forward to coming back again and again after just a short initial conversation with staff.

We LOVE this store and of course the amazing staff. Brian is amazing and will never steer you wrong. We love that we can go into the store, not know anything about the wine, and never worry about it being an amazing wine. Free tastings every Saturday where you’re also going to learn everything about the wine you’re drinking. They also team up with Olio down King Street to have these great tasting classes.

I am NOT a wine person.
I like crisp and sweet. This apparently is a challenge.
So one of the owners (or THE owner) Brian, loves wine, and is a consummate business owner. He knows what he has, and he knows what’s coming.
My MOTHER, however, loves dry wines. Go here, tell Brian what your tastes are, and he will help you.
I found a wine last year — first attempt — was a wine I will never forget. I bought a few bottles and shared it with some buddies at the Legend of Zelda concert last summer.
Brian has helped pick wines for me and for others. He is very understanding, and I suspect he knows EVERYTHING about every wine he has.
Le Tastevin has a wine club that I hope to join (if the job market improves). I plan on returning to this store, and I show other people about this store as well.

As much as I love to drink wine, I don’t know that much about it. I know what flavors I like and that’s about it. Since Le Tastevin has been beckoning me for almost a year to enter into its adorable looking doors, I finally ventured in. The space is nothing special-​just lots of wines on display. But, that’s all they really need. We were immediately greeted upon entering, and the manager told us to let him know if we had any questions. This was while he was engaged with a few other customers, so I appreciated that he wants everyone to feel welcomed.
The selection of wines is impressive. I couldn’t quite figure out how they are sorted… definitely into whites and reds (whites in front, reds in back), but there was also a third section of maybe sale wines? I’m not sure. Regardless, it is well organized and easy to navigate. There were many wines I had never seen before, which made me excited. I love my standbys, but being exposed to new wines is always fun!
The best part was that there was a free tasting! They hold them every Tuesday and Saturday afternoon. I believe a man who does a lot of the buying was conducting it (who, for the record, was VERY easy on the eyes and reason enough to go there), and on display were various sparkling wines and whites from a winery in France. The name escapes me, but each wine was like none other I have tasted. There was a sparkling chardonnay/​reisling blend, a pinot gris, a chablis and a reisling. I usually HATE reislings, but this one was more tart than sweet and left a delightful aftertaste. I also enjoyed the pinot gris immensely. It was flavorful but not too sweet.
I didn’t end up buying anything, but I will most definitely be back to do so. The prices had a broad range, so I can grab something cheaper to go with a quick dinner, or get something more expensive for a special occasion. And from the looks of other reviews, they take requests for wines, a perk of which I would love to take advantage! But aging wines… that is hard. Wine that is to be aged never lasts more than a week in my house!

Wine — Love it. I stumbled upon this place while walking over to Gregg M’s place for dinner one night. Ever since going to Bourbon Steak, we have wanted a wine called Frank Family Cabernet Savignon, 2007. I went in and spoke with the owner/​manager? and asked if had it or could get it. It took a little while, but he came through for us. I will definitely be going here.
Its a small place, but if you are looking for anything in particular, he will try to find it. I thought the prices were competitive with other local wine shops. They also do tastings on Tuesdays and Saturdays. For you beer lovers stay tuned for future beer tastings.

I love wine! Le Tastevin is a small shop on King Street that offers a relatively small, but diverse selection of wines from around the world running the price range from inexpensive to special occasion pricey. One of the best things about the place is that they carry many wines that I haven’t seen elsewhere in the area. Of the wines that are available at other wine retailers in the area, prices at Le Tastevin are competitive. The great staff at Le Tastevin will also special order a wine for you if they don’t carry it. I ordered a case of 2007 Frank Family Cabernet and they sourced a supplier and had it for me in little over a week.
Le Tastevin is a great addition to Old Town! I’ll definitely be back!

Its nice to have found amazing wine experts who are able to identify and recommend wines specifically for your palette. Such individual attention and courtesy is hard to find, and this place is a true gem. Amazing selection of wines that run the entire spectrum of the price range, but its the people that keep you coming back twice a week for more.

It seems this place has a wine for you no matter your budget or mood. Their approach is very accessible and completely unpretentious. Although, I suspect that if you need pretentiousness and extensive varietal dialogue, these lovely folks could accommodate such a discussion. I’m going to be their newest «regular.»

Happened to be parked in front of this place and after leaving a restaurant after dinner down the block, noticed they were having a tasting of Sauvignon Blancs. Went in, it’s a nice, small, not terribly luxurious store but it really didn’t need to be. the owner was super nice and spoke to me about the wines, but didn’t overdo it. I was there to sample wines not get a degree in wine, yaknowwhatImean?
I picked up a bottle, and asked him about a Pinot Noir for a gift that I’d be using along side a French dinner a few nights later. Didn’t end up drinking it, but my best friend did drink it and she has raved over it. YAY. I was worried I got swindled since I don’t really know much about wine except Boones Farm bad.
I’ll be heading back, it’s nearby and having reliable expertise is a worthwhile thing to frequent!

Really appreciate their expertise. Great place to find help choosing the right wine for anything I serve, from a casual BBQ to Thanksgiving dinner at the right price! Obviously they know wine and are able to find great value for your dollar.

An excellent selection of affordable and not-​so-​affordable wines, and a very knowledgeable and friendly staff to help you figure out which ones are worth it. They have a lot of tastings as well.
There’s a small selection of tapenades and such for pairing, which comes in handy. Word is that in 2011 they’ll start carrying some craft beers as well.
