Established in 2009.

For the past three years, Frizzles has been providing the best salon and spa services to clients in the Alexandria area. The staff at Frizzles are all artists in their own right. Each of them brings the combination of unique personality, experience and talent to their work. Like all artists, they are meticulous in every detail, which gives you the personal attention you need. Manager

Alex opened Frizzles Old Town after seeing the success and passion of her father, who opened the first Frizzles location. She went to school for psychology and biology, and worked for a nonprofit before shifting focus to follow in her father’s footsteps. She wanted Frizzles Old Town to have an upscale, modern and friendly atmosphere without the snobbery that can often be found in similarly stylish salons. She loves the passion that each member of her staff brings, and takes pride in the exceptional customer service offered at Frizzles. Her philosophy is to promote a team environment, and to treat everyone on the staff equally. She believes that when the staff is happy, they perform better, and you can see evidence of this in the faces of the clients.

Great first time experience! I saw Betty, who layered my too-​heavy shag cut into a lighter cooler shag for summer — her cut is perfect for my hair texture, and just like the photos I took with me. I was so apprehensive about changing salons and stylists. Now I wonder why I waited so long! A friend who sees Vincent and has been happy for years recommended the salon to me, and I’m so happy!

I took both my girls to have their hair cut. My youngest is 3, and has hearing issues, we had the best hair cut and experience for her with Frizzle. In fact, she is asking to get her hair cut again. My nervous 6 year old loved the staff and cut, and even felt comfortable to get her hair washed, which is a first. We could not be happier.

I was very disappointed in my color and cut by Josslyn. I wanted my highlights/​lowlights the same as I had. She went darker and added choppy lowlights. Then she told me my hair was not darker. The manager did offer to fix.
She destroyed my bangs.

Vincent is my go to guy for haircuts for the past few years. I tried this salon a few years ago because it was convenient but stayed because I have always been satisfied with the end result. Is he talkative? not really but that’s what I like. I don’t want to be in the salon for hours chit chatting about anything and everything.
I have the typical asian hair that is straight and when it’s dry it poofs out. Vincent manages it really well from day one. My hair doesn’t poof at the end when it’s dry and the layers he puts in are amazing.
Recently, I tried Yune for eyebrow waxing. My eyebrows aren’t your typical easy symmetric long brows. The last place I went to (in Lorton) made them so thin it was horrible. Yune asked what I wanted and had a few suggestions of her own. She took her time and they look amazing. I literally can’t remember the last time they looked this good. I don’t know why I wanted so long to try her out.
This place is a solid 4.5 stars for me. The deduction would be due to the waiting area, seats could be better and I don’t like the fact that you can’t tip on your card.

Horrified. Beware of Sami. If your plan is to take a photograph, consult with Sami, and him do what you requested you will be completely horrified with the results. Instead you will get whatever he wants to do. I walked in there with a chin length bob haircut and requested a texturized bob with a long bang. I walked out with my sides cut off at the ears and the entire back of my head jacked up. When I expressed that I was upset with my cut, Sami stated it would grow and then quickly ripped off my cape and moved on to another customer. Absolutely no apology or sign of remorse for his mistake.
As a fellow hairdresser I was very weary of writing this review. However, I would not be doing right by the industry that I love and respect had I not.

I’m not normally a person to write reviews but Betty did such an amazing job fixing my hair! I came in because another salon I went to turned my hair into a bleach blonde with brass in the center! But Betty took her time fixing the color and even fixed the cut! I’m so thankful! And the inside is very upbeat and the staff is very friendly :) they don’t take tips on card but they have an ATM right next to the counter

I’m relatively new to the area and chose to get my first Alexandria haircut at Frizzles because of the good reviews here on Unilocal.My lackluster experience could be due to a number of factors (the stylist, the fact that I have curly hair), but I will not be going back.
When I arrived, we looked at my hair (which was dry) and I said I’d like for it to be shoulder-​length. «Just below the shoulder or right at the shoulder?» he asked, and I replied that I’d like it to be right at my shoulders. After having my hair washed, I was aghast to see that he was cutting my wet hair to be shoulder-​length. Since my hair was wet, it was straighter/​longer that it would be when it’s dry and curly (as I normally wear it, and as it had been when I arrived and we discussed what I wanted). Long story short, this haircut did not turn out even close to what I wanted. If you have curly hair and you want to try Frizzles, I recommend giving your stylist crystal clear instructions and/​or erring on the side of having too little cut off.

I moved from NY to Alexandria last year and didn’t think I’d find a comparable salon here. Frizzles is in my neighborhood and whenever I passed it, it was busy and full of interesting, stylish men and women… so I decided to give it a try. I’m so pleased that I did.
Josselyn happened to be at the front desk when I walked in so I spoke with her about what I was looking for. She has been my stylist/​colorist ever since and has consistently exceeded my expectations.
I took the plunge a couple of months ago and decided to cut my long hair down to shoulder length. It was a big step for someone who has had long hair their entire life but I felt it was time for a more sophisticated look. Unfortunately, the dry texture of my hair was not being very cooperative. When Josselyn had finished the cut and blow dry, she asked me if I liked it and I was quite blunt… I wasn’t thrilled with the look but I told her that it had nothing to do with her skills… it was simply that my hair was not aging gracefully.
Most stylists would have shrugged it off and waived «good-​bye» but Josselyn didn’t want me leaving disappointed. She applied a glaze to restore the shine and silkiness that was lacking in the texture of my hair and then gave my hair another blow dry. When I left, I truly felt that the cut was more flattering than I would have ever thought and I feel totally at home in my new look.
Kudos to Josselyn for not giving up but rather rising to the challenge AND for ensuring that her customers leave feeling really good with regard to their experience and their results.

Ok so Im brand new to the area looking for a salon, found this one on Unilocal decided to give it a try. I decided to book an appointment with joy. And u was so nervous coming here. I have curly frizzy hair comparable to Disney’s brave princess Merida ! Lmaooo. She really knew what she was talking about how to cut it so i can tame the poofy beast easily & she listened to all my wants and needs. Leaving the salon i felt happy and fresh. She also
Showed me how to style for after care. The only down side for most would be the price. I payed 80 $ but the way i think about it is your paying for the knowledgeable beautician to do your hair perfect & im sure you can pay maybe half of that somewhere else but its not worth the expense of a botched hair cut. I did feel a little uncomfortable some of the staff just dont look too friendly :/

As a transplant from Texas, I had to search high and low for a new salon. After my third attempt in a year, I have found it! Betty is exactly what my hair needed! A true professional. I can’t thank her enough for listening to my needs.
On a side note: the salon is clean and trendy. They have enough staff for days. My visit from start to finish was reasonable (about an hour). My wait was about 15 mins after appointment time, but I’m also patient and realistic. Betty was attending to a previous customer, no biggie!
I will be back for my semi-​annual trim. ;)

I got a fashion color and cut done by Josselyn, after seeing her work on Instagram. She took my twice bleached hair lighter, without any damage. Then painted on purple highlights. She gave the color dimension, like I naturally had purple hair ;) the end result was gorgeous and lasted a few months with careful upkeep. The entire process took 5 hours (so be patient!).
Towards the end, she had more clients come in and had to juggle us. She forgot I needed a haircut too, so she sort of did a rush job. I have heavy hair and like lots of layers. I felt bad, because she seemed overwhelmed and I figured it wouldn’t get any better at that moment.
I’d probably come back, to get her to touch up my color. But I wouldn’t go back for a cut.

I found Frizzles on Unilocal!and have worked with both Ruby and Josselyn who both do fashion color. My hair is naturally DARK brown and if you know anything about fashion color, you understand it is a process! I had never colored my hair before so I was happy that within my 3 visits (1 Ruby, 2 Josselyn), each visit was better than the last! It has been such a fun journey and I couldn’t be happier with the results!

This was my first experience at Frizzles and needless to say I was very impressed. Julia was my stylist and she did an outstanding job. Its a very busy place, but customer service is great.
My only complaint is I wish I would’ve known that tips are cash only!

Brad is brilliant, patient and has such a great attitude but most importantly he is the most talented colorist I’ve found in the DMV, and I’ve been looking for a long time. I have a lot of hair and it’s thick, long and dark Asian hair. I came to him to go ash blonde and he did not disappoint. I’ve now seen him twice and the results are fantastic. I’ve gotten several compliments and I feel amazing. He did exactly what I asked for and he did it to perfection. The salon is also so reasonably priced it’s really a gem.

I’ve been going to Frizzles for the last two years or so. I would say, for the quality of the salon, the price is right. Plus, they generally have scheduling available on short notice (I’ve usually been able to get same-​day or next-​day appointments without much issue).
While you’re there, you get a beverage – hello red wine pre-​haircut.
I can’t really comment on most of the hair stuff because I’m a bit boring and stick to trims and cuts only. That being said, I’ve seen Sami the last two times and I’ve generally liked my hair afterwards. Considering I usually walk in exasperated with horrible hair and plaintively say, «Please fix it,» I can’t complain.
The first time you go, or at least this is true for me and my niece, you get a discount. I generally expect to pay about $ 75 when I come (not including tip). They have an ATM on site which is so CONVENIENT! It’s so awful when I forget to get cash in advance and then appear like I’m stingy. The ATM helps prevent that issue, yay.
Bottom-​line: I’m going to keep coming here and I’d readily recommend it to a friend or colleague that asked me for a suggestion as well.

My regular hair stylist moved away a year ago, so I’ve been browsing different places to get my hair done. I booked an appointment here based on Unilocal reviews, and the fact I didn’t have to wait for an appointment.
It’s located right by the PTO office. I was here on a Sunday, so parking was free and ample, but I wonder if it’d be a lot harder to navigate and park if it had been any other day…
They asked me to push my appointment because of a client before me, which I had no problem with. I showed up a half hour later and waited a lot longer; the client before me ended up taking much longer than they’d expected. Finally, they asked if I’d mind a different stylist. I said sure, since I hadn’t tried anyone from the salon yet anyways.
I got a great haircut. I decided on caramel toned ombré, which looked great. My stylist had me walk outside into the sunlight, and showed me how my hair sparkled in the natural light. I had previously been on the fence about meeting friends at a bar afterward, but I couldn’t waste a perfectly good haircut, so I decided to meet with them after all xD
