Specialties
Alexandria Clay provides classes in wheel (throwing on a potters wheel) and hand building. In addition we have one session «Try It» lessons. In the future we will provide raku and guest artist workshops for small groups. The studio also provides low to mid range firings (cone 04 to 6) to non-member artists. In the spring we hope to acquire a high range gas kiln that will be able to fire to cone 10.
History
Established in 2014.
Alexandria Clay CoOp is a continuation of Creative Clay Studio that lost its lease in the Bren Mar Industrial Park in January 2014. In May we discovered an easily accessible and affordable warehouse at 2389 South Dove Street and began making it our new home.
Meet the Manager
Russ W.
Manager
Russ is a retired architect who has been «throwing» clay for fifteen years. While at Creative Clay Russ has taken many classes and had the opportunity to attend several of the workshops and raku sessions there. After fifteen years the potters he associated with became longtime friends and neighbors so when Creative Clay lost its lease he and a dozen other individuals, who were committed to keeping the studio intact, bought out the owner and went hunting for a new place to play.
