«It is our wish that our finds will encourage you to be creative, to try using a supply in a non-traditional way, or incorporate a non-traditional fabric or supply in a traditional way, to shake it up a bit!»

Judy Gula, owner, Artistic Artifacts

Artistic Artifacts products are available in this secure online store (shop in your pj’s!), when we exhibit at different Mixed Media, Quilt, and Sewing Shows around the country (see Events), and at our brick and mortar shop, the Artistic Artifacts Annex, located in Alexandria, Virginia.

The Artistic Artifacts Annex as been described as Aladdin’s Cave of Treasures, and a feast of creative inspiration. It can take hours, maybe even days, to view our jam packed shelves at the Annex. On the web, we have tried to create that excitement of shopping in Artistic Artifacts, to touch and feel as fiber and mixed media artists are known to crave. We encourage you to view our pages, and join our community of creative explorers in the mixed media and fiber arts.

History

Established in 2008.

Judy Vincentz Gula has been working in fiber since elementary school. Since middle school, she has been a weaver, a spinner, a dyer, and a collector. Later, she studied fashion design at Radford University, earning degrees in fashion design and business marketing. Judy now enjoys merging all that she has learned from her many interests and channeling that into making art quilts and samples for her shop, Artistic Artifacts. Judy grew up in a family business, Electrodyne, which designs, manufactures and supplies automotive accessories for European automobiles. Her entrepreneurial spirit was born of this real-world education, preparing her to conceive and open Artistic Artifacts. Her family also imbued in her the «family collector gene,» which allows her to see the potential in what others have discarded. Judy generally instigates artistic high jinx with everyone who visits her shop. Judy travels to shows, conferences, and guilds to share her excitment for mixed media fiber art.
