True Sushi

My lady and I went for lunch today, it was our first visit to True Sushi. We went around 12:20 pm and there were two tables occupied. One table was done eating, the other was just receiving their food.
We sat down and ordered the Monkey Ball appetizer, a salmon bent box, and an amigo roll that was on special. We ordered them immediately and all at the same time as we were on a time limit.
We were a bit taken back by the prices, much higher than we expected, especially for their «lunch specials».
The food was pretty good, we enjoyed all three items.
But it did take more than 20 minutes to get our food, and considering we were the only table eating, that seemed far too long.
We had to ask for our check, and then tell our server that we were in a hurry as we had spent more time there than we had available.
We probably won’t be back, but we are happy we gave it a shot.

Every time I come to this place I am friendly greeted and treated with A+ service! The food has always been top notch! Consider me a returning frequently.

I am still a fan of True Sushi– but must say I am very displeased with the inconsistency of their service and quality.
Went yet again and found that this time the tempura was very thick and soggy. My wife always gets the Phily roll tempura ‘d and the first time we went it was light and crisp. This time it was very thick and drowned out the flavor.
My Tuna Nigiri was a bit off– could tell immediately that they served me pieces that had been sliced the night before.

I love the food and atmosphere! This is a great place for a bite before you go to the theaters. Not to mention on Thursday, Sunday, and Monday football nights, Sapporo on draft is $ 2.50!

Convenient meet-​up-​for-​sushi spot near Century 24 theater. I’ve been here a good number of times and I’m surprised it’s usually not too busy. Very modern two-​story space. Ambience is great for either a date night or sushi and drinks with friends.
As far as the sushi goes, I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve tried. Favorites include the Crunchy Shrimp and Green Chile Roll. Only wish they had more creations that feature unagi, my favorite! Service is attentive, but not overbearing. True Sushi is definitely worth a try!

Delightful. Had chicken bento box and seafood udon soup, vegetable tempura and yakitori. Everything was great. The tempura was light and crispy and the vegetables were fully cooked but not mushy. Bento was great, the ginger salad dressing was excellent. Seafood was fresh, sweet mussels and flavorful broth. Good and attentive service.

The name is true sushi, and it fits. They have sea urchin most of the time, and if you don’t eat sea urchin, you don’t know real sushi (for New Mexico). The service is always prompt, polite, and the owner is friendly. Best sushi place in albuquerque!

Sushi was pretty good. Menu is a bit limited. Rice/​Sushi ratio on Nigiri was heavier on the rice side, I had to dump half the rice on each bite of Nigiri. A bit overpriced. Soda was flat, no unsweetened iced green tea. Service was acceptable.
I’ll probably go back again…

Omg I am so happy to have found this place so good the sushi is excellent. The staff is so friendly. I ordered crunchy salmon, crunchy shrimp, spicy salmon and cali roll for the husband. Service is quick. Great food beautifully displayed, nice clean restaurant. I will be back. Sorry no pictures ate my food so fast lol

We were promptly served by the owner of the restaurant. I notice that he is Laos so I said hello in Thai and he responded very rapidly and eager to serve us. My mother and I ordered Sashimi Combo which is just one of the freshest plate that I can find anywhere in Albuquerque and the fish were just seasoned perfectly. He even brought us some miso soup without request knowing that would be extremely delightful to all of us. The pictures shown below will be the type of food that you will be served and it is a true polished star in this central location of Albuquerque.

True Sushi offers just about everything you could want in a sushi house: beautiful, quiet ambiance, excellent standard rolls, inspired chef creations, and an overall commitment to high-​quality ingredients and artistic presentation. The downside is that this all comes at a premium price and the kitchen menu is largely a waste of time.
Usually when I go to sushi places, I ignore the big plastic menu and go straight for the paper menu and the golf pencil. At True, though, I found a number of very interesting looking appetizers pulling me away from my usual order of way too many rolls. The Heart Attack, which is basically Japanese style jalapeño poppers, was an incredible re-​imagining of the standard bar food. And, surprisingly not spicy, either. The soft shell crab was absolutely incredible, the best I’ve ever had. Nicely crispy and creamy, without that lake bottom taste they sometimes get. Soft shell crab is my favorite seafood, and this appetizer is reason enough for me to come back.
On the rolls side, everything was delicious, but True tends to, like many places, over decorate their rolls. The El Diablo, for example, got a little bogged down under that sriracha, spicy mayo, and dusting of Japanese spices. Not only was it a total mess to eat, but all those rich flavors on top tend to overwhelm the delicate, subtle flavors of the fish inside the roll. Still good, just a little overwrought. Really, what is disappointing is the 18 dollar price-​tag for many of these ornate rolls means that you’re paying extra for all that flavor muddying sauce on top.
On the other hand, when True does let the quality of its ingredients speak for itself, the result is spectacular. The soft shell crab is a good example of this, but so is the Sandia Roll. The latter is a simple roll with tempura green chile inside and improbably stuffed with several kinds of fish. It may look small of the plate, but this is the best deal at True, as it contains a huge amount of fish. What really makes it standout, however, is how fresh and perfect all that fish is. Without a bunch of rich flavors to disguise it, a roll like that stands or falls on quality of ingredients alone. At True, at least, they’ve got the quality to pull it off.
Other than that, the menu offers all the standards: udon, stir-​fry, bento boxes, etc. On this note, I didn’t find anything that really made me want to forgo another roll. The udon was pretty average and completely unadventurous, offering just a smattering of veggies amidst its lightly flavored noodles.
True does do some things brilliantly. If you want to play to their strengths, I would recommend sticking to rolls and appetizers, and try to avoid the rolls that have too much going on. Don’t get me wrong, those are still good. It’s just that True excels where they keep things simple.

So I’ve driven by this place hundreds of time going home and finally stopped. WoW I say!
I was the only customer so I opted for the bar. I love to watch the Sushi Master at work. This was my first time seeing a female Sushi Chef, but she was amazing. truly
I pigged out and had 3 rolls. A NM roll that was both sweet and spicy, Perfection!
A crispy salmon roll that was warm and looked beautiful, and a normal California roll which was served how I like it.chill.
Ok so I’ve had Sushi all around the world but this has to be in the top 3.
Its as family run as it can get. While I was eating, the owners family gathered for a meal in the dinning area and looked so happy. After that I was hooked.

My mom and I went to the Pan American location before catching a movie. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised. We opted for simple things like the chicken bowl and an order of tamago and a california roll. I’m used to miso coming with the sushi, but here it was extra. Everything we ordered was delicious. The sushi, though, took a bit longer to come out, whereas the meal came out quickly. All in all, we’d definitely come here again. The décor is excellent, and we were surprised to see that there was seating in a loft above the sushi bar.
