Chillz is great. Made fresh every day, and always some different flavors. An Albuquerque gem.

Chillz is the best place to get something sweet! This locally owned business features a new flavor each day and has a variety of frozen custard deserts. If you have never had frozen custard, it is like ice cream in HD. The service is great because the owner works hard to ensure that customers come back time and time again. The lines can get long, but that gives you time to look over the menu and be sure that you know what you want. The owner makes everything to order one at a time to ensure that each customer is seen and given attention. I know that each time I go to Chillz, my favorite dessert will taste the same and will not disappoint! I also look forward to the monthly calendars that feature each day’s flavor. The custard is delicious but the service is quite the opposite. I will apologize in advance for this lengthy/​ranty review but I don’t typically like to lower ratings based on service so I feel the need to be thorough.
On a previous visit, the shop was closed for an unknown reason but the door had a sign saying something along the lines of «take a selfie with this sign and get a free scoop on your next visit.» My girlfriend and I thought that was super cool so we took a selfie and left.
So we’re now at our next/​most recent visit. We enter and order and though the owner isn’t particularly thrilled to help us he still serves us up some delicious custard so no harm no foul. As I am about to pay I remember the selfie coupon. So I tell the owner that I think I have a coupon. He snobbishly says «oh from a year and a half ago.» I say no and mention the selfie sign. He is now more rude and replies, «oh, so you want me to honor that from 2 months ago, that’s what I get for having a birthday» I tell him that it’s unprofessional to try and make us feel guilty for having a coupon he created. He proceeds to go off on some tangent about being raised with guilt and how we would have punished him if the shop would have just been closed that day without the sign. At this point I just want to leave but I have already eaten some custard so I feel obligated to pay. I hand him my card and he gives me the total then stops and says «Oh wait let me APPLY THAT COUPON.» C’mon man… It’s important to note that it is suddenly one of those famous 15 minute monsoons outside so we basically have to eat inside the shop which has become very awkward. As other customers come in and order, I can overhear the owner’s condescending and unnecessarily snarky remarks to simple benign questions. My girlfriend was so uncomfortable that she didn’t even finish her custard and asked if we could just leave into the torrential rain pour.
Sure people have bad days, I get it, but there was something very unique about his mannerism and treatment of us that day that really made me feel almost despised by him. I’m typically a very cool customers and don’t let trivial stuff get to me but this guy doesn’t deserve my patronage and I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t want it.

I took my daughter here about 3 weeks ago when she was out sick from school because she broke her finger. Justin was keeping it real for sure! Very personable, but not fake and pretending to be all stupid happy. I like when I can go to a business and be treated like we actually know each other. Makes for better conversation if you asked me. Our conversation covered religion, politics, altruism and the business, which he himself works at EVERY day! We had some similar opinions, and some not so similar, but it was some good discussions with a good guy.
My 11 year old daughter and I both got double scoops, she got a banana split and I got the turtle sundae. The vanilla flavor was Da Bomb! He told me they experimented with about 70 different variations before deciding on «the one», and I could believe it! It tasted exquisite! The two scoop Sundaes were surprisingly large also. He asked my daughter if she was sure if she wanted 2 scoops because it was so big. She still said «yes“and proceeded to down the whole thing in about five minutes. Not because she was hungry and not because she eats a lot, which she normally doesn’t. But ONLY because it just tasted so good!
In fact, she liked it so much that two weeks later when her mom, two brothers and the both of us went to the state fair, I I told all the kids they could get any junk food they wanted. Her suggestion? She said we should all leave and go to chillz!!! Now that’s some brutal honesty right there! The rest of the family didn’t go for it, only because they didn’t know what they were missing! However the following Monday my wife and I were running errands in Albuquerque, and I was so excited to take her to Chillz before we went back to Los Lunas! Much to my dismay, I should have checked their hours online, because they’re closed on Mondays! :-(what nerve! To take a day off? How dare him! He thinks he should only work 6 days a week? He thinks he should be able to take his birthday off too? What kind of work ethic is that? LOL
Do yourselves a favor. While your tax money goes to support people who get paid to stay at home all day, pop out babies like pez dispensers, and get their housing, groceries, healthcare and cell phones at no cost to them because of NOTHING they did to deserve it, go give some of your money to support a local business run by a guy who’s busting his a** to live the American Dream, and you get to try the best frozen custard in the 505 while doing it. I know this guys HP has something «BIG» in store for him! He’s going to go places, and when he does you could say «I met that guy when he was just a running a little frozen custard shop in the student ghetto!»

Delicious. Open late. No nonsense. Regular flavors are great and the special flavor of the day is always excellent.

By far my favorite place to get dessert. The quality of custard is far superior to that of anything else in town. One of these days I will be brave enough to do the custard challenge. 6 waffles, six scoops of custard and 6 toppings.
The calendar of flavors is awesome to see posted on Facebook to know when they have your favorite flavor or when one is on there that you have been dying to try.
Justin, the owner always treats my family well when we go in and jokes with the kids, «pounds their knuckles» and is honest about his day. It is hard to find service like this in most places you visit.
You can sit and enjoy your custard in shop or get it to go. You can also buy containers of prior flavors of the day to take home and enjoy later. Fresh ingredients and organic toppings all the time. You get what you pay for, that is for sure. Go in and support a locally owned business, by a former UNM Athlete.

The frozen custard here is very good. I really liked that they have multiple other flavors that you can buy and take home. I would definitely come back here again.

This place is still wonderful! I’ve been several times and the custard is awesome. They usually have a flavor of the day, as well as chocolate and vanilla. You can go to their website to find the flavor of the day. Unique flavors like golden oreo, tiramisu, sea salt n caramel, and watermelon are among the delectable finds. You can make a sundae out of it, too. Soooo good!
And all of the staff are super knowledgeable about custard and the whole custard making process. It’s a bit healthier than ice cream and has more protein. The proof is in the pudding… or custard in this case.
Do yourself a favor and stop by for a sweet treat on one (or a few) of these hot summer days. Many days the owner is there, which is a statement in favor of the business. You can tell he cares about the product he makes and takes pride in it.

My boyfriend and I always enjoyed some great custard on a weekly basis when we lived a little closer to Chillz. The raspberry sauce, flavor of the day, and waffles make this place special.

Smooth, creamy, and sweet are just a few words to describe the custard at Chillz. The owner deserves the «custard king» title for his hard work of making this delicious treat in three favors everyday (vanilla, chocolate, and the flavor of the day). He also packages the flavor of the day and sells it in quart and pint sizes, making your favorite flavor available to you and your freezer. There is a large menu posted on the wall behind the counter. It provides customers a tool to selecting their perfect custard creation. Including just about any topping possible. Unsure what flavor to get, don’t be shy ask for a sample, if you’re not offered one first.
It took a whole summer, but I think I’ve tried every flavor of the day at Chillz. The most surprising one I’ve enjoyed is the French Toast. I’ve ordered a sundae before, and OMG! The owner not only makes the custard, but he is the artist creating your custardy deliciousness. All the pictures you seen of his creations, reflect 50% of their beauty in reality. Don’t believe me stop by and watch him in action. If your lucky it’ll be slow and you’ll have a chance to meet and get to know the person dedicated to make Chillz the fantastic frozen desert place it is.

I have been going to chillz for the last 4yrs and love this place! The flavor of the day and the chocolate peanut butter concrete is to die for! I have tired other places and they are sub par compared to chillz! I highly suggest Chillz to everyone who wants a great rich and creamy custard experience. Not to mention the customer experience is a great one at that!

Best custard place in the business! Everyday new flavor makes it unique plus you get that awesome flavor on a waffle is on! The owner is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Hes always there running the shop so be sure to say what up from his boy Morty! He’ll know ;)

I am so over all the grody, frozen yogurt places. Frozen custard is where it’s at people! And you know where it’s at?! CHILLZ. Chill dude that owns it, chill atmosphere, chill vibe, and badass frozen custard. Get here now before it blows up and the line is out the door! I’m waiting for the bf as I type to get back with a pint of their daily special, sucka.

This place is beyond delicious. I have been here several times, and it is always amazing. My personal favorite is the waffle with chocolate custard and raspberries! You honestly can’t find any better type of cold dessert in town. I also really like the guy who works there (I believe he owns it). He is such a nice guy, and he runs a great establishment! You need to try this place! You will not be disappointed.

Wanted some dessert and heard great things about this place. Chillz has vanilla and chocolate frozen custard, plus one special flavor of the day.
Waffle N Custard ($ 4.50): Freshly made mini waffle topped with one scoop of frozen custard and one topping. Excellent frozen custard, extremely creamy and soft while holding its shape. Graham cracker crumbles FTW. Probably one of the better waffles I’ve had.
Of course, there is a food challenge here: 8 waffles, 8 scoops of frozen custard, 8 toppings, 30 minutes. A couple of my friends have finished this. Trust me, I was tempted, but I wanted to enjoy my dessert this time.
Solid spot to finish the night. I hope to return in the future!

This is not frozen yogurt. It is not ice cream. It is frozen custard: sweet, dense, and smooth. Smoother than aforementioned dairy desserts. You can get your typical fudge brownie sundaes, banana splits, etc, just with custard instead. Bf and I shared a banana split with one scoop chocolate and one scoop vanilla.
My only gripes are that this place doesn’t take LoboCa$h and service is hit-​or-​miss: one guy who works there is extremely unfriendly.

What a little gem, thanks to groupon I came across this place other wise I would never have known it was here.
We decided to try this place last night for desert and we was pleasantly suprised, my kids ordered the flavor of the day which was Angel food cake with gummy bears for the topping and my husband and I shared the brownie with vanilla flavor frozen custard. It was all delicious. My son is already asking when we can go back.
Excellent customer service :) we look forward to our next visit.

My first time eating frozen custard. It was delicious. It wasn’t even heavy at all. I got two scoops vanilla custard with turtle toppings and got a watermelon (flavor of the day) for my daughter.

We stopped in with some friends this evening just before closing time. After a rashin’ about coming in so late (jokingly of course) we selected the chocolate custard with hot fudge and oreo sprinkles. If you’ve not been here do yourself a favor and stop in when you’ve got a sweet tooth. The portions are generous and the custard is to die for, it’s really smooth and is probably among the best I’ve had. About 10 after 9pm (they close at 9pm on weekdays) three others wondered in and were served. It says a lot about the business man that after closing still offers to take care of a would be customer props to you!
