Specialties
Hello! I can help you with are Modern Gown Alterations, Vintage Wedding Gown Restoration & Re-sizing, Custom Wedding Gowns, Historic Costumes and Corsets. My particular specialty is working with and repairing lace. I also make custom gowns and veils to go with your gown. Please find my Studio Trousseau page on Facebook to view pictures.
Always call ahead for an appointment. For custom gowns I need a minimum of 5 months and for alterations 2 to 3 months. While sometimes I do rush (less than a month) projects, I often can’t do them because of my work load.
History
Established in 2006.
It all began with Vintage Dance. I studied dance history at Stanford and then was part of a performing group called Danse Libre. We were required to wear historically accurate 1850s ball gowns, so I began researching and studying original patterns. I made my own gowns, then others asked me to make theirs. At some point custom wedding gowns and alterations were added to my work. I went to Lacis Museum of Lace and Textiles for a year to learn restoration and now I specialize in restoration of vintage wedding gowns and making custom corsets.
Meet the Business Owner
Karen T.
Business Owner
Having spent 30 years as a professional branding designer, design professor and creative director at Adobe Systems, Studio Trousseau is my second career. Previously, historic costuming was my hobby… or passion. It’s been very interesting for me to transition my design skills into this business. I really like working with my customers to achieve exactly what they want in a gown.
This past year has been very exciting. An 1884 wedding gown that I completely restored was the subject of a documentary, ABC7 news came to my studio and interviewed me, I was invited to write an advice blog for brides on a pre-owned wedding gown web site, and my costume portfolio is now posted on Youtube. In the past I did a vintage fashion show for the Museum of African History, was asked to show a gown in a Paris vintage fashion show, did restoration for Lacis Museum of Lace & Textiles and have lectured on fashion history in San Francisco and Sao Paulo.
