Just terrible, can clearly tell the grilled cheese is made with a fake butter substitute

One of my favorite places in downtown Akron. They have a great list of beers on tap and in bottles. I love sitting upstairs on the rooftop deck. The food there is good, I’ve had a good cross section of the sandwiches and each have a unique twist that help them stand out. We need more places like this in Downtown Akron!!!

With 13 choices of grilled cheese sandwiches, I rate this the best lunch spot in Akron! The deep fried pepperoni are incredible and tater tots can, and should, substitute the goldfish crackers that come with.

Eh, nice atmosphere, attentive service. I felt ashamed for ordering the chips and cheese sauce. Was hoping for something interesting ended up with something I could microwave. Grilled cheese was ok. It is like they do not even try. Goldfish for sides and pop tarts for dessert. Clearly a place you go for beer

Really disappointed in this place… maybe it’s just me, but I think food should taste good without a beer. We had heard great things from several people bit when we went, we found that it was pretty substandard. We both had grilled cheeses — I had the corned beef special and he had a number 7. We also had the fried pepperoni and the croquettes. Overall, both sandwiches were lacking in flavor. The fried pepperoni was actually just fried little pepperoni slices — too big for two people who don’t want to have a heart attack. We were seated next to the hostess stand, where the hostess and a waiter? talked/hovered next to our table for over an hour. So obnoxious to have their loud conversation right next to us. When you are working on a restaurant, you just don’t stand around chatting all night. We will not be back — annoying staff and subpar food do not make for a good dinner :(

I’ve heard amazing things about Lockview since I moved to Ohio almost 3 years ago. Unfortunately, I received the worst service I have ever experienced on my first and only visit. I asked for water and a glass, never got that. It took half an hour for a friend of mine to receive her drink, when she got it, it was the wrong drink. My friend said it’s not what she ordered, the server nodded solemnly and walked away– not offering to remedy the problem. It took about 10 – 15 minutes for our server to even approach the table to ask for drinks. When she did, she asked half of the table, and walked off before asking the other half(as if she actually intended to ask the other guests). I got up on two separate occasions to ask to order– and then to ask for our checks. I did this after waiting a considerable amount of time– I always give the benefit of the doubt and assume they’re trying their best. This girl could not have been any less enthused. The environment LOOKS nice– it’s dimly lit in a comfortable way. The music selection is terrible and distracting. The restaurant was slow! There were many open tables and many servers on the floor. It was not REMOTELY close to busy enough to warrant service that horrible. Absolutely unacceptable. ***i enjoyed my food. It was room temperature, but that doesn’t bother me as much as it bothers(all) other people. Prices are reasonable for the portions and quality. I won’t be visiting lockview again. Word of mouth is the most powerful form of advertising, and if this establishment employs people of that caliber, I’m not going to keep that quiet. Pathetic.

The front of house staff were totally unconcerned with the fact that only half of our party got their food. The staff aggressively avoided eye contact, especially after they realized the massive error in service they were committing. Mind you, we ordered *grilled cheese sandwiches* so there is no logical reason for a one hour delay between the first volley of sandwiches and the second, if all the sandwiches were ordered at the same time. Mistakes happen; the fact that there was such a tepid attempt to correct the error is the real issue here.

Who doesn’t love grilled cheese? This place is just really good at what they do. I’ve loved every sandwich that I’ve ever tried, though I have a few favorites that I always come back to(8, 10, 13). Added bonus: It’s only a block from work for me.

This place is great for a relaxed atmosphere and a little something for everyone. They have a wide beer menu which my group throughly enjoyed. I got a lemonade to drink. It wasn’t anything special. It almost seemed watered down. We all got grilled cheese with tots. Everyone enjoyed their food and it was very filling. I thought the bread was perfect. I got a special grilled cheese with lobster. After having been to Maine recently, it’s hard to please me with lobster. However, the other members of my group who got it really liked it. I also wish my tots were hot, which they were not. Overall, I found it to be enjoyable.

The Lockview is one of those businesses, along with Dante’s, Angel Falls, Blu Jazz, and the Night Light, that give Akronites reason to hope that a much better, hipper future is in store for the Rust Belt. The mood and food at Lockview strike the perfect chord: fantastic draught and bottled beers are advertised stylishly on chalkboards, dim strings of lightbulbs hang above the dining room setting the tone, large mirrors run along the walls opening up the space, and booming speakers play Richie Valens and the Everly Brothers. The retro booths invite you to plop down and soak up the funky urban atmosphere. The hipster food revolution is in full swing here, and let’s face it, these days that’s a compliment. Perfectly-toasted grilled cheese sandwiches, tater tots, macaroni and cheese bites, fried pepperoni, you name it — all well-suited to pair with that artisanal IPA. The super-cool Tiki Bar patio upstairs beckons you on a summer night, where you’ll look around at see bricks, vines, tall buildings and neon lights, an urban rooftop experience you didn’t think you’d ever have in Akron. With the jukebox humming in the background, you wont want to leave. Unfortunately, they serve only a very limited, shadow-of-itself menu up there, including no draft beer. I’m sure it’s logistical, and done mostly out of respect for the food runners, who they are trying to spare from a steep stair climb with a wobbly tray. But, it just ain’t right to be sitting upstairs on a summer eve and be stuck with a plain hot dog and bottled beer.

I like The Lockview for a casual dinner and that includes some of the best toasted cheese sandwiches in town! They also serve chips with the local famous Lawson’s Chip Dip! To me, that is awesome! The beer selection is a bit overwhelming but I can always manage to find a great beer to go with dinner!

Amazing place, never a bad experience. Our server, Taylor was a wonderful fun kid! We had a relaxing time choosing our meal with great advice and a full understanding of the entire menu from Taylor. She was engaging and made us feel as if we were her only table. The other staff was fun as well, offering comments when I asked about the music playing. We will visit again, the food is amazing, the staff is fun loving, and the pricing was excellent for the quality and quantity of food we received.

M– I went looking forward to what had been discribed as the best grilled cheese in town. There is very small steps to move from elevated bar food to a great dinner experience. Unfortunately the Lockview did not raise to the occasion. What makes a grilled cheese great is fresh hearth baked bread buttered with real salted butter filled with a mix of fine cheeses dusted with graded cheese and brown to a golden brown. Someone else may have gotten the sandwich I had in mind but I did not. The soup was better then adverage but not outstanding and my salad came with a bad tomato. I believe with a few adjustment in the back and a more pleasant face out front it could be a nice place. D — Really good beer selection. They had one of my favorites, «Ten Fiddy». Mediocre grill cheese sandwich. I had the jalapeño something or other. Like in the old commercial I was found asking Where’s the Cheese?. Service was slow and cold. Maybe we had a beginner.

Love visiting this place when I’m in Akron. They have a long beer list and great selection of grilled cheeses(I get the bacon, apple, and cheddar) that come with gold fish crackers. And since we are being unhealthy already we usually also order the basket of tater tots with spicy dipping sauce. Then I detox for the next few days to get all that yummy grease out of my system.

This is my favorite place to visit when I am in Akron. I love the coziness of the hustle and bustle atmosphere. This place is made for all types of people; families, students, goldfish cracker lovers and beer drinkers . They are known for their grilled cheese and beer list. I get the same sandwich every time! I always order the #6 Grilled Cheese with Apples and Bacon. The beer list here is quite extensive and you could find yourself here for hours wanting to drink all of them. This place is simple and that is what makes it so great!

Bottom line: Decent food, but somewhat greasy. Nothing to write home about. Macaroni bites were great! Service was lacking. Long review: Went here with a friend for a late lunch on a Sat – there was no wait and the bartender said we could sit anywhere. We ordered drinks and some macaroni bites for an appetizer. The macaroni bites were awesome!!! They were battered and fried(and I normally don’t care for fried stuff) just right, to create a golden-brown crispy outer layer with a gooey inside, and served with a Sriracha/ketchup dipping sauce. They were pretty heavy though. This place is known for their grilled cheese sandwiches so I ordered The Number Four(Mozzarella, Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto, Arugula and a Sprinkle of Parmesan Cheese Served on Italian Bread) based on our server’s recommendation. Our food came out in a short period of time, but I didn’t like my sandwich too much. It was salty and pretty greasy. My friend thought hers was good, but not great. Our server was nice but did not check in enough, or keep our drinks topped off. We actually searched for her when we needed refills. Overall, an ok experience. I would not go back.

Tasty food — everything was fresh and served fast. They are known for their gourmet grilled cheese, so we had to try them. Got The Number Eight(Goat Cheese, Roasted Red Peppers, Spinach and Sprouts on Tuscan Herb Bread) and The Number One(A classic. American Cheese Melted to Perfection on Texas Toast.) Both come with Goldfish crackers(happy face for grandson). We also ordered a salad and a bowl of chili. All was very enjoyable. Not a fancy place, by any means, but tasty food at good prices is a win. We will be back when in the area.

I’ve only been here twice but both times have been great. They serve one of my new favorite beers, Lucky Buddha! The concept is so simple but yet it works so well. Grilled cheese and awesome drinks. Can’t really ask for more than that. I’ve had the artichoke grilled cheese before but this time I had the one with garlic mash and it was AWESOME! I can’t wait to go back.

Went here with a large group of friends on a busy Saturday night. It was described to me as a favorite hangout of one of my friends and I could see why. It’s kinda dingy on the inside, but in a cozy way. There was a concert and a beer festival going on that evening too so I knew we would have a long wait. However, the host was very nice and kept me updated on what was going on. They also let me sit at the bar while I waited even though it was very crowded. As for the food, plenty of delicious and unhealthy appetizers to choose from! I don’t eat meat but others on Unilocal rave about the deep fried pepperoni. My husband said they are what you expect. I enjoyed the fried mac n cheese bites and the queso dip. The big sell for me here is the variety of grilled cheese sandwiches. So many to choose from and almost all of them sounded tasty. Oddly enough, I actually got the mac n cheese that night because I also consider myself a mac n cheese connoisseur. I had to see if the Lockview’s mac n cheese was worthy… It was! I enjoyed the choice of noodle and the mix of cheeses had a hint of spice. It was creamy and enough for two portions so I enjoyed it for lunch the next day. It’s not super gourmet but hits the mark when it comes to comfort food. I would not try the pop tart dessert. I didn’t order it myself, but from what I could see, it was just a pop tart with a bit of whip cream and sugary topping No matter how intrigued you are, just go to the grocery store and get your favorite pop tart flavor and add a scoop of ice cream.

We ate at the Lockview for the first time last night. Since it was a Sunday evening we had no trouble getting a table and we were able to park right in front. The beer selection is overwhelming — literally 6 paragraphs of beers listed on giant chalkboard walls above the bar! The wine list was pretty impressive too, there were at least 10 different reds offered by the glass and more offered by the bottle. There weren’t as many whites offered by the glass but what they have is a nice sampling. My husband and I both had beer… a Canadian Unibroue Blanche De Chambly for me and a Bombshell Blonde for my husband. The beers were really good and our waitress, Wendy, helped us choose something we’d like. We had the fried pepperoni and Golden Krisp potato chips with Lawson’s Chip Dip for appetizers. You know the crunchy bits of pepperoni on pizzas that get fried on the edges in an oven? The fried pepperoni appetizer is a basket full of crispy, salty, heavenly slices that are served with marinara sauce. I love the person who invented this dish! My husband craves Golden Krisp potato chips with Lawson’s Chip Dip — we currently have 2 different types of Golden Krisp chips in our home pantry and 2 vats of Lawson’s chip dip in the fridge. This appetizer was enjoyed just like we were home on the sofa, watching old stuff on the TV and drinking good beer. I should mention here that the 3 TVs within our line of sight were tuned to AMC, Turner Classic Movies, and another unidentified channel that runs old programming. The music selection was amazing and included artists like Louis Prima, Perry Como, and Billy Holiday. Thumbs up for the entertainment! For dinner I had the Mashed Potato and Cheese grilled — I added Goat Cheese. My husband had the Pepper Jack Grilled Cheese with Jalapenos. The sandwiches were fabulous! Tater Tots and sweet potato fries were our side dishes… everything was delicious! To top it all off I ordered Cinnamon Pop Tarts served with a caramel syrup drizzle and whipped cream. OMG… the hot pop tarts and cold whipped cream were divine! I ate ALL of it! The only thing that keeps the Lockview from being rated 5-stars is the bright overhead lighting. I felt like we were in a cafeteria or a hospital. They did eventually dim the lights, however it was nearly 7:00PM by that time. One other observation of note: none(I mean not one) of the waitresses had visible tatoos… nor were they scantily clad. My husband pointed this out to me. How refreshing! We LOVED our dinner at the Lockview, and Wendy took great care of us. We have already told our friends and family about our visit and will be back soon!
