Despite only being pub food with a commercial chain, the food presented was average and not worth the money.
Service was scatty, wrong choices ordered and other meals presented with missing accompaniments.
Overall poor experience. Other than drinks not a place I’d return for the food

How can this be considered pretentious? For a pub, this place has good food and in a great location to people-​watch English tourists. On that subject, it’s perfectly understandable that they charge a bit more than the next town over.
I’d say go here, enjoy a few ales and a good meal before hitting the town proper.

A nice place to go– IF you have plenty of time to spare. Every time I have been there I wait for ages. Drinks are served in the wrong types of glasses. Food is good though and prices are not that bad for Rip off Winchester

A lovely warm friendly welcome when you enter, a little cramped for space and the day we went it was raining so it was very busy. The food is quite pricey but it’s nice.

Quite small bar area downstairs. There is an area upstairs as well which is often shut during quieter periods. This places gets busy in the evenings and is a pretty good place for a good night out. The food is always good and I think fairly priced. Service is sometimes a little to be desired, but sitting outside in the summer amongst the hustle and bustle is always nice, just near the cathedral and the olde worlde part of Winchester. Also they never play any sport in here, good for some, not for others, I don’t think there is even a screen in here.

I like this place, its always really busy and on a night out its a really good pub to go to. The food is delicious but quite pricey but you do get what you pay for.
