unfortunately this wounderful pub has stopped doing lunches so far as to say they have two types of sandwiches no sharing dishes nothing really that you’d want to pop into to have for a quick lunch which is a shame because on previous visits the menu was quite extensive… we ended up going to the Red Lion which had a huge range of yummy food. the prices were also quite high for lunch. shame it was pretty empty too… just need to sort out the menu guys!! x

I was pleasantly surprised by the food here. My broiled cod with smashed potatoes, green beans, and caper sauce was quite good. My friends liked their mushroom chicken pie, fish and chips, and bangers and mash too. For the uninitiated, you order food and drinks(even tea) at the bar. The tables have a homestyle feel to them. Overall, good local pub.

Lovely pub, great garden put the back. The food was good — not massive portions but all was very tasty

We had the fish and chips, the pot pie and bangers and mash all very good. A good selection of beer and not overly expensive. If your looking for authentic British food this is the place.

So I was invited here by a friend of mine who works for Fuller Brewery(since this is a Fullers pub it did make sense, honest!). There was an event on that evening where for the bargain price of £12 you could go into the spacious pub garden and watch a Shakespeare production that Permanently Bard were putting on. Apparently they had run this event the year before at a couple of different Fullers pubs and now had taken it to 13 pubs around London and the South. That’s quite a jump, so I thought there must be something good here and went along! The pub itself is a typical after-work middle class suburbia gastropub affair… OK that is quite a specific description! Spacious inside, looks clean, newly refurbished and has a clientele that you would expect in Ealing. Now I have to admit I’m not actually a great fan of beer so me tasting Fuller’s wares was never going to be the most pleasant of experiences. But I obliged and tried their newest concoction, Frontier — a craft lager. Actually it was pretty nice, not too heavy and pretty refreshing(why would anyone want a pint like Guinness that leaves you as full as a full 3 course meal?!). I didn’t try the food but it seemed what you’d expect for gastropubs at prices between £10– £15 for a main meal. Definitely on my radar to try the food if I’m around South Ealing again though! The beer garden was also large(which was good since they were putting on a play) and I spent a really entertaining few hours watching A Midsummer Night’s Dream, incredibly well directed & acted from a group of semi-professional actors. I said it before, but for £12 what a bargain! I could easily imagine sitting out in the beer garden on a normal summers day as well and wiling away an afternoon with a group of friends and a few too many bottles of wine. Normally I associate breweries and pubs with brewery affiliations as slightly stuffy, old man pubs where the usual punters give you a stare when you walk in because you’re clearly not a regular in their drinking hole. But the Rose and Crown wasn’t like that at all, inviting and made me want to come back to sample more. Who knows, perhaps there’s a Unilocal event to be had in there somewhere?!

A hidden away pub that’s bustling with life. Slightly off the main road in West Ealing is this cute — mock thatched cottage, public house. It has a good selection behind the bar and also offers food. This place as a real community feel to it, offering cinema nights and birthday events for particular locals. There’s a large interior with ample dining and bar space. And also a big beer garden to enjoy the 5 mins of sun we have in the summer. Overall an A-Ok place.

About as good as a pub gets. Plenty of local competition but all my friends prefer the Rose. Can’t wait for summer in the beer garden.

Love this pub. There’s always a good selection of ale on, a large beer garden, the pub itself is huge with many separate rooms and the clientele are always quite interesting. Slightly strange conversations taking place but that’s not a bad thing. Have heard a lot of good things about the food too — haven’t got around to trying any yet but am looking forward to it!

Rose and Crown, Pub: Church Place, Ealing, London, W54HN, Tel: 8721077077 If you’re in the mood for fish’n’chips but are worrying about a plate sans veggies then you probably haven’t treated yourself to a meal at the Rose and Crown. From the juke box that grins a warm welcome at the entrance to the smiling servers inside this rustic english pub there’s warmth here and by that I don’t just mean the piping hot plates in winter and the sun soaked patio in the summer. I love the crispness of their perfectly battered fish and hot golden chips made guilt free by the freshly steamed greens at the party on the plate. There’s also the house special of coriander chicken and the best half shandies in Ealing I reckon. The service is fantastic. This is the only pub I’ve been to where four pawed guests are served with a smile. The nice thing about the Rose and Crown is that if the weather isn’t great you can always find yourself a quiet table inside where soft instrumental melodies waltz around the room adding to the friendly and relaxed ambience. This pub is clean and homely and that even applies to the Ladies room so powdering your nose is not a scary thought here, which it is in many places that like to pride themselves in great food, which of course to foodies is the main focus but it’s not the only focus that’s for sure.

Visited this hidden gem last week on account of a mate living nearby. I lived near it yet never visited. It’s warm, cozy, deceptively large, was busy but not rammed. The staff were great. The food looked good although we’d eaten. They apparently do lots of theme nights(Burns night coming up), movie nights and other more ‘interesting’ things than just selling booze. As for the booze, they had a load available — I was drinking Pride and Winter Warmer ale, as well as a cider I’d not seen before from Herefordshire I think. They had lots of cider to choose from! It’s a bit annoying to get to(Bus 65 or walking for us) but I think I will have to pop in again. I think it’s worth it.

This pub has definitely sorted itself out. The staff are very friendly and the menu changes frequently and the food is great(now). The garden means that if you are out with smokers, you arent left there pondering life as most of it us under cover and heated.

Love this pub. Went through a lull 07-early 08, not sure if due to smoking ban or the food menu which was not very inspired. Oh and the toilets were awful. Pleased to say has really turned itself around, the garden and smoking area are nice, food is now vastly improved and the newly re-furbed toilets are a million % better. Oh and the best pint of Carling in the area in my opinion. Feels like a real ‘find’ as it’s tucked away in the vast shadow of St Marys Church.

Visited this place last summer and chilled out in the beer garden at the back. It must have been very good as I don’t remember a lot about it!!!

I’ve lived in this neighbourhood for four years and somehow always passed by the Rose & Crown. The way that it was tucked back off the street(in a blind spot, as another reviewer said) with an unappealing front, I just never bothered checking it out. Today I did, and I’m glad. I’ve been missing out. It’s a nice place with several different areas to suit all needs. There are regular pub-style tables in the front room, places for 2 – 4 people to sit and have a drink amongst the wood and cast iron. The second room is larger, and has some of the same tables but also has some areas with low, soft sofas for those that want to lounge a bit more. The bar wraps around to both of these rooms. At the back is a dining room and an open kitchen. The menu was substantial and more adventurous than just fish and chips. Crab cakes with chili dip and salad, peccino pizza(which looked great — they had a few other pizzas on too), BBQ ribs, and lots more, all well-priced. They were serving food in the middle of the afternoon, so they must serve it all day. Out back was a beer garden. Several tables were on a wooden deck, and some of these were underneath a motorised awning that looked quite new. There were a handful of picnic tables on the grass too. Not much of a view, since it’s hedged-in backyards bordering on people’s houses, but nice enough. The staff were friendly. There were plenty of newspapers and games about for those who fancied them. There were posters up for a quiz night(Sunday, I think) and jazz on Wednesday nights. I’ll be going back.

Not frequented this pub that often, but when I have, I have found it a pleasant little pub, with a varied menu and the usual Fullers beers. They have a Quiz night, which is well advertised around the bar and a fair amount of regulars which points to an all-round good place to go.

You might miss the Rose & Crown if you were coming into town from South Ealing Road, as its on the blind spot as you come around the corner by St. Mary’s Church. It’s worth a visit. Decent size, plenty of tables, with a beer garden which is closer to a family pub in the country than an urban smoking area(read ‘grass and picnic tables’ rather than ‘concrete and bins’). The pizzas are easily big enough for 2 if combined with a bowl of chips each. I had chorizo and haloumi — big, generous chunks of meat which made for messy but satisfying eating. Beers aren’t bad, a selection of ales and posh lagers(from Fullers).
