History

Established in 1989.

TransIndus was founded in 1989 and the aim at the outset was simple: to provide tours to India of the highest possible quality, at reasonable prices, for discerning travellers.

Itineraries were devised that threaded together both the must-​see sights and off-​track gems where clients could gain an authentic taste of rural as well as urban India, beyond the reach of more conventional tourist trails. The holidays had to be both comfortable and relaxing, and culturally stimulating. So as well as landmark five-​stars, we started to hunt out heritage and boutique properties with great character, and journeys on quirkier modes of transport, from river boats to elephants. The formula proved a great success.

Two-​and-​a-​half decades on, the business has grown considerably. TransIndus now ranks among the UK’s largest operator of tailor-​made and group tours to Asia and we now operate in twenty different countries.
