Description

Specialties

Tapa, not tapas?

Yes. The Tapa Room takes its name from the huge, traditional Rarotongan Tapa cloth that hangs on the wall. Tapa cloth can be found throughout the Pacific and is used either as a decorative piece, as a ceremonial floor covering at feasts, or sometimes as fabric for clothing. Yes, we do serve small dishes of food, much like Spanish tapas, but it is the cloth that we honour with the name.

Sorry, we don’t accept reservations in The Tapa Room

The Providores

A more formal affair than the Tapa Room, The Providores offers delicious, finely executed dishes in a relaxed yet stylish environment.

For dinner Monday to Saturday we have a tasting menu in which all our savoury dishes are starter-sized. You choose however many courses you wish. This enables you to experience a variety of our dishes, and you can match each course with a different wine if you want to. Much more fun than the starter/main course format!

History

Established in 2001.

The Providores and Tapa Room was originally set up and opened in August 2001 by four partners: Peter Gordon, Michael McGrath, Jeremy Leeming and Anna Hansen. Jeremy and Anna have both since left the business, but you can find Anna and her wonderful food at her own restaurant The Modern Pantry in Clerkenwell.

The Providores is run by co-owners Peter Gordon and Michael McGrath. They have combined their individual skills to create a unique dining experience in the heart of London’s Marylebone Village — the union of an award-winning fine dining restaurant, and an all-day wine bar/café with one of the best breakfast offerings in London, serving some of the city’s finest coffee. The ever-changing menus are driven by creativity, innovation and the use of prime ingredients from within the UK and abroad. The constantly evolving wine list offers Europe’s largest selection of premium New Zealand wines, while our service has been described as some of the friendliest and most informed in the city
