The Betjeman Arms

If you want noisy lively British pub, this is a right place. Don’t order anything other than beer as you won’t be happy.
Wait can be very long for a table so if you are on wait list, just grab a table at the bar and get something to eat.

Went here tonight for drinks. It was OK, but just OK. Had to go in to the inside bar to get drinks twice because they were out in the outside bar. That’s just crazy in this weather! Nothing special.

One of the better train station bars in the country I’d say.
And then you have the pork belly bites and are transported to a place of bliss and wonder — a place no train could ever transport you so easily. Yes, it’s like injecting hot liquid fat into your body, but they taste so good!
The drink selection is as you’d expect, the staff have always been really friendly when I’ve been in and the toilets have always been clean too — so it’s a winner for me.

As you’d expect, this place gets extremely busy and it can be hard to find a seat. But it’s very convenient and is generally well worth a visit.
Two colleagues of mine suggested meeting here for an informal work meeting and it was a good choice, if a little noisy at times.
It’s really attractive inside. I recall how it all looked before the renovation and the restaurant area was the station’s (not particularly pleasant) public loos. To get to the pub’s loos now involves quite a trek. It’s huge inside, like a TARDIS!
In her review, Nina B remarked on the service being ‘glacial and a bit snippy’. I had the same experience when ordering my drinks.
It wouldn’t put me off returning though, mainly because I adore St Pancras and I could sit and look at that station interior all day. Next time I’d like to try the food.

If you’re in the area, this as as fine a place as any to grab a decent beverage. The location makes it ideal since it’s on top of Kings Cross/​St. Pancras, and the outside seating is tempting for a smoker like myself. The lads that served all seemed rather jovial, and that they’ve more than simply Bombay Sapphire for gin drinkers (I’m really not a fan) is quite the boon.
Nothing could have been more lovely than to have whiled away a few Hendricks and tonics, with an old friend, before catching the train home. It’s pretty busy, being where it is, but if you’re happy to share a table you can always pair up with other travellers. The restaurant looked fairly attractive, but given the toilets are accessed via the inner dining rooms (at least, I’m assuming they were dining tables as I’m sure I noted the cutlery) it’s not necessarily the place for an intimate meal.
In any case, it’ll do.

Monopoly Pub Crawl — Stop #7 — Kings Cross Station (Railway)
Now, there used to be a pub in the station on Platform 8 but I was advised it has closed (but apparently has recently reopened under new management). Sadly, since we didn’t learn of the new pub until after the fact, we opted to go to the Betjeman Arms which is more or less on top of St. Pancras station. If you go up the stairs next to the St. Pancras station entrance opposite Kings Cross, the pub materialises to your right.
A few things to note: it’s part of the hotel so expect quite a few well dressed business types, the bar is suitably upscale from your standard pub, they aren’t quite used to crawlers so behave yourself, and they have renamed the kitchen to «the Scullery» (which I find hilarious).
I rocked up and chose a jaegerbomb for the drink at this top as I needed the energy to keep on trucking. At £6, it came in as the most expensive drink on the crawl although the size of the drink was fairly impressive. A word of warning, they do drop a shot glass in that fits snugly in the glass. It won’t come out at first when you take the shooter down, but 3 seconds in it will race towards you and can cause a mess if you aren’t careful.
Erica U pulled a chance card at this stop and had to do 20 push ups. I’m happy to report that not only did she pull it off in fine form, the entire pub started chanting in support. Overall, an excellent place that I quite enjoyed our little warm stop in.

Pretty much only good things to say about this place. Upsides: the décor, the view, the location, the beer, the food, the history and the service. Downsides: it’s a bit windswept in the outside seating area. Come here when waiting for a train or come on a train to have a pint and a chat.

Aptly named after the man who saved St Pancras. Im sure if Sir John was alive today he would appreciate his namesake pint.
A good pub that serves a fine pint, good selection of food served in the rear dining room.
A must for the weary traveller.

Completely average, and only notable because it’s a place to sit and eat while waiting for a train. The automatic 12.5% gratuity is practically criminal.

Well kept real ale, a nice place to unwind whilst waiting for your train.

Stopped here for a quick burger on our way to catch a train to Paris. It’s nice in that it’s tucked away from the chaos of the rest of St. Pancras and the «outdoor» patio overlooks some of the trains and is kind of nice. But I can’t give it more than two stars because the burgers were just awful. So so bad. I can’t remember having had one this bad before, and my companion had the same reaction — just tough and dry and hard. And the fries were undercooked as well. Server was quite nice and asked if we wanted something else instead, when he saw that most of our sandwiches were left, but we didn’t have time.

A pub in a railway station should not really work so well but (a) St Pancras no ordinary station, and (b) this is in all fairness a pretty decent pub. At least I hope it is, because I’ve been hanging out here with friends on a regular basis for the best part of five years — it’s a great meet-​up point for people living in various bits of London due to Kings Cross St. P’s unbeatable transport links.
Drinks-​wise there’s a decent choice for beer and wine-​drinkers alike, and the food is pretty decent when you get peckish. The staff are friendly and (usually) pretty attentive too. My only gripe would be the odd-​tasting humous we were brought on one occasion: we’re fairly sure it was not, indeed, humous at all but the staff insisted it was. Either way, it wasn’t great!

A nice, quiet retreat on the first floor of the st pancras station, away from the hub bub of the terminal just below. Brightly lit restaurant pub, ideal for a quick pint just before a train ride. Located just around the corner of the St Pancras Hotel.

The five stars go to the burger. I love this place and have been here loads of times. Waiting for a train or just retuned to London for an overseas trip and need a place to relax then this the place for you. A nice selection of beers and the food is amazing. If the bar is packed sneak around the back to find a large dining room. I love this place and have had the homemade beef burger about 6 times now and I’ll be back. Plus the staff that I have encountered have always been friendly. Five out of five.

If the location wasn’t so damned convenient, I’d never go to this place. Sadly, it’s very damned convenient.
Service varies between ok, glacial, and a bit snippy. Beer selection isn’t great– the usual big-​name suspects with nothing special — thankfully they have Guinness.
The seats inside look comfy but are usually taken. Finding the toilet’s a bit of a mission.
It’s not horrible, but this place is… meh. Go somewhere else.

Always busy but good beer and good food.
If you cannot find a seat, try round the corner past the bar towards the toilets — big dinning room area tucked away!
I recommend the burger!

Being a seasoned traveller, I’ve had the (mis)fortune to have had to while away the hours awaiting my train in a variety of different station bars. Each and every one of them has, for the most part, been a overpriced den of misery — full of warm beer, bad bar snacks and walls stained yellow from years of diesel fuel. So, when I stopped for a pint in The Betjeman Arms, I wasn’t expecting much. After all, it was a railway bar. How good could it possibly be?
As it is, this is an excellent pub. Indeed, many other stations should take a look at it and hold it up as the perfect example of what a railway station pub should be. It’s spacious and well decorated with a great outdoor area overlooking the great vista of the newly designed station. Plus, it has an excellent range of beers and ciders — even if I did feel that my pint of Aspalls Blush was ever so slightly on the pricey side.
Although I didn’t try the food when I was there, I’ve heard that The Betjeman Arms is attempting to position itself as being a gastro pub. Which should be interesting — particularly in an area which seems to have its fair share of halfway decent eateries. More power to its elbow I say.
Even if it wasn’t situated in a huge commuter hub, The Betjeman Arms would still be a very good pub indeed. It makes me want to find more excuses to travel through St. Pancras, if only so I can sample some more of its excellent ales.

This is a surprisingly good pub, for a station pub. Quite upmarket too. but thankfully not TOO upmarket.
They serve 3 real ales, except when they have beer festivals, including a beer called Betjeman Ale from Sharps (which I think is just Cornish Coaster rebranded) which was nice. They once had on a Sharp’s Winter Ale (I’ve forgotten the name unfortunately) which was the best winter ale I’ve had so farfull of flavour but yet not as strong as they usually are.
There are seats inside the bar (a couple of different rooms), outside if it is not raining and also inside the train station itself, with a view of the Eurostar. They serve food, but judging by the look of the place it might be a bit posh gastro for my lower class palate. This last fact means the beer can be a bit above the average price too.

Not the best pub in the world by any stretch, but if you are waiting for a train from St. Pancras or Kings Cross then there is non better around! Food was great, nice wine and good selection of beers. Two nice terrace bars, one in the sun (when it is out) overlooking the outside of Kings Cross station, the other is inside St. Pancras itself under the beautiful roof while watching the Eurostar trains arrive.
Not a pub to go running to, but if you have time before a train the best choice for a drink and lunch/​dinner.

As an old hand at this train travel malark (two years as a boyfriend commuter) I have ended up in a lot of train stations, passing a lot of sad time over vile food and mouth-​burning tea served in a plastic cup, before forgetting it all once the boy arrived.
And so if only I’d been coming and going to St Pancras all these months. The Betjeman Arms really is a revelation and should stand as a symbol to those who have platform pubs in the palms of their beery hands that really, the station pub can be a great place. Guaranteed business doesn’t mean it should be shit now, does it?
Here there is great beer and fantastic food at a more than reasonable central London price. I like that it doesn’t feel altogether like a gastropub here, more just like a wholly decent pub. If you’re in the area, skip over the chain eateries downstairs (even if they are the slightly posher ones) and take a trip upstairs (mind the wheely suitcases on your way…)
