I was drawn by the location, huge outdoor area and some good reviews of Studio Six being reasonably priced. I love Gabriel’s Wharf on the Southbank and it always seems to be bustling in the summer months. I tried to book but you can only book a table if you’re eating. We weren’t sure if we were having sharing platters/bar snacks, a meal or just drinks so we just crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. We managed to get a table outside for 6 and a few of the group stood(there were 9 of us). We did book a table for a little later in the evening for food though. It was a really warm evening so the outside area was packed but had a good vibe about it. I went for Pimms which was made with a good amount of fruit and cucumber but it tasted like they had scrimped a little on the alcohol. My boyfriend was really pleased that they had Hoegaarden on tap — it’s one of his favourite beers but it’s not often available or only in bottles. When a table became available for us to eat, we moved over and managed to squash 9 of us on one picnic bench. One waiter moved a table for us so that two were together but then another guy came along and was a bit rude and told us off for moving them! We ordered and then very soon after two burgers came out. We mentioned that it might not be for us as it seemed a bit soon and as the order was only two meals not 9 but they told us they were. My friends started tucking into their chips with the burgers and then the waitress came out and said that they weren’t ours. We watched as she went inside and then straight back out again and took them to another table. They were less a few chips and some dips in the mayo but that didn’t seem to bother her. Our food when it arrived was good but nothing to shout about. I had the pulled pork burger. It came in a brioche bun which I love and the chips/fries were delicious — crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and nicely seasoned. I found the meat a little dry and thought it could have done with a bit more BBQ sauce. It was reasonable value for money for London and especially on the Southbank, but not as cheap as some reviews seemed to make out. I like the location and that you can sit outside in the summer as there’s a large area, if you get there quick enough. I found the staff to be a little rude though and the food could have been better.

Ate here last night, and while the service was good, the food was pretty mixed. The goats cheese starter was pretty good, the Cajun wings weren’t very Cajun. They just tasted like plain. The Camembert platter was delish the lamb shoulder was pretty good but the ‘peri peri’ chicken sandwich was exceptionally bland. First time I’ve seen HIM not finish a meal. He sent it back. They did take it off the bill without us asking, which was a good thing to do. Portion sizes are pretty good.

Been here for drinks a few times now. Unpretentious and cheap for where it is. Good range of beers, including Brewdog which is a plus for me. Lots of seating outside and in, though on a Saturday night you might struggle to get a seat inside or even in the heated outside area if it’s cold. Mixed and nice crowd, on the whole. I haven’t eaten, but the restaurant and food look nice enough. Will be back I’m sure.

This is one of the nicest meals I’ve had in YEARS! I had superfood risotto made with butternut squash, kale and bulgur wheat. As a veggie it’s SO dull to always have risotto but theirs was different(as made with quinoa and bulgur wheat) and just yum. I was using my fingers at the end to scoop up extra sauce! My boyfriend had steak pie which he reported was also yummy. AND they had raspberry kopparverg which is so hard to find. We sat in a little conservatory and felt so happy and sunny. The staff were really nice and the whole thing came to £30! When we left about 7 the place was packed so I really feel I’ve unearthed a secret gem!

Was pleasantly surprised by a place I thought would be a tourist trap let down! Situated at the end of Gabriel’s Wharf, Studio 6 was just the opposite… Friendly fast service with delicious food served in an impeccable beautiful manner with prices not all that bad. My cousin and I shared the goat cheese, arugula dish and the beef and Guinness stew pie and both were delicious. Definitely recommend it if you’re walking along Southbank and don’t want to get ripped off.

Either we hit a bad day or things have gone downhill here since the last lot of raving reviews. We stopped by for lunch on a busy Saturday after a friend recommended. They quickly found a table for 6 which is pretty much where the pros end. The menu felt confused with a mixture of different cuisines including Greek, Spanish and usual pub type food and prices seemed quite steep(although I’m admittedly not used to London prices). Of the six meals ordered only two were really enjoyed. Service was pretty minimal and slow so for service charge to be added to our bill was annoying. Not a great lunch.

Special Offer — Grolsch £3. Where along the SouthBank can you get a pint for £3. Nowhere but here. That being said — Studio Six would not always be my first choice to grab a pint along the river. Situated in St Gabriels Wharf, Studio Six is a bar come café/restaurant with ample seating inside and out. Sounds great, but on a less than sunny day you’re only option is the outside seating if you don’t want to eat. The place is reliably packed with what seems most of its tables reserved. The bar staff have always left a little to be desired, but that’s probably because there’s usually the one dude behind with a bar queue 4 deep. A good enough selection and food is pretty average but it beats getting stuck in the tourist traps around the immediate area.

Surprisingly good for what I expected. Outside, it looks like an outdated greasy spoon and indoors although not the nicest décor, was the food amazing! I ordered the burger and hubby ordered a meatballs with spaghetti. Both were great and reasonably priced. a great place to grab a quick bite on a sunny day. will come back for the drink and food!

Real nice place besides the usual tourist spots with focus on fresh mediterranean food and refreshing beverages. You get here real good quality for less money then you would expect near the well known sightseeing spots. We visited it twice during our week in London last summer.

Stumbled upon this place after seeing a play at the Globe. Nice outdoor seating, but it’s unfortunate when a smoker ruins the atmosphere with their pollutant. When is London going to ban smoking in AND outside of restaurants? Anyway, the service was kinda slow and my waiter never really came by to ask how the meal was. I had the filo dish, which was actually pretty decent. I really liked the flavor of it with the feta cheese and all. Their portions are just right in my opinion. Decent prices, but sortof mediocre all around I’d say.

tl;dr: Lovely outdoor seating, OK food, terrible service. I love Gabriel’s Wharf. It’s a respite from the horrible chainy-mac-tourism down the road AND it’s affiliated with Coin Street. So, fab. Pulled in here to avoid Southbank crowds the other day. Half empty, but the menu looked reasonable, in a «they can’t really screw this up» sort of way. Wedged into a corner where we couldn’t fit in without gymnastics. Demanded fo rour drink order before we’d even sat down. A request for«what beers do you have» produced a «look at the menu(stupid, implied). So ordered the food. What looked like a Sainsbury’s curry wasn’t great(but not too bad — I am still mystified why pub grub includes Thai-ish food). There was a lamb shank thingo that wasn’t too bad, in a pub grubby sort of way. Never asked how the food was. Never had a chance for more drinks. Had to chase down the waiter to get the bill after trying to catch their eye for 20 minutes. After 10 minutes of watiing for our change(it was nearly £9 on a £40 bill) had to chase down the waiter — again — and demand it. This produced a «Yes, yes, it’s coming dear, hang on to your knickers» look. Kids, I’m sorry you’ve got to work on the first sunny Sunday in weeks. But that’s the job you do. And you get to be outside. So, essentially, don’ t go here. There’s other places that are better, but still in Gabriel’s Wharf.

This is cheap and cheerful family-run, outdoor seating goodness! Gabriel’s Wharf is a nice off the path break from the South Bank. There is lots of outdoor seating so it is quite a treat on a nice afternoon or evening. Kitchen is open late, the menu is varied – hamburgers, fish cakes, chicken dishes, pastas, etc. I enjoyed a halloumi salad and my guy had delicious pasta. It was super-cheap – a large pour of wine, an appetizer and two mains for 30 quid. Can’t go wrong here.

First time stumbling onto this wharf I find myself ordering liver, ham and mash in Studio Six. Plenty of outdoor seating, service is prompt and it’s popular with the nearby office crowd. They accept reservations for lunch if you manage to understand the receptionist over the phone — my American accent probably didn’t help. Good food. Friendly staff. Polished yet down-to-earth atmosphere. And not(too) touristy.

Unilocalers, you let me down. BIG time! This place was terrible! We arrived at about 7:45 on a Wednesday evening, expecting a small wait — but not the 45ish minutes we stood in line. No one greeted us, no one gave us an estimate on the wait time. Ok fine, maybe that’s just standard for a pub type environment, but it went downhill from there. When we finally got seated, finding a place for the high chair for our son was nearly impossible — this place is NOT good for kids. I repeat — don’t bring your kids here, especially if you’re planning to feed them… there is no kids menu. We ordered the chicken satay skewers(sold out) and the spring rolls to start. The spring rolls were obviously some kind of pre-frozen jobber, thrown into the deep fryer for a little too long. The sauce was fine but standard. My son refused even a bite of them. Dinner was inedible. I had the special, the Thai chicken salad — which was drenched in so much fish sauce it dried my mouth out instantly. I would have happily ordered another glass of wine to satiate myself — but our waiter never returned. In fact, we never saw the waiter again after we ordered. Some random person delivered our food(seemingly hours after we’d ordered it), and another — when we finally managed to wave him down — delivered our check. My son was about to lose his poor little mind. I apologize to all the diners around us. I suppose if you wanted to sit and have a leisurely drink(read: you get one, and only one drink because the waiter never comes back) this would be a good place to do it. The atmosphere is cool and relaxed — I’ll give them that. Just don’t plan to get an edible dinner… or feed your child!

Studio Six has endlessly impressed me over the years. Having lived a minute away for a while, this was my regular spot for when a well-priced high quality meal was in order. The menu is changed on a regular basis(certainly weekly, if not maybe even daily). There’s clearly a competent and light touch in the kitchen — food has been consistently well-executed in a homely and nutritious manner, without too much fussing or pretension. Exactly what you want in informal surroundings drinking a few beers in the sun, or late evening when you’re sauntering down the South Bank. The menu normally features a good piece of fish and a thai curry. Starters are well-conceived, usually with a delightful soup. Desserts are of the traditional mould — crumbles and pies and the like. Service is mixed — it’s certainly not horrendous or rude, but it’s a little ditzy and disorganised. They’re friendly, if not at the cutting edge of their game … Been a while since I’ve sampled the wine list, but recall having never been disappointed in the past. Solid beer list, including Palm which is a bit of a favourite of mine. Finally, you shouldn’t overlook this place just for a drink — plenty of seating outside, and Gabriel’s Wharf offers a wonderful place to while away a sunny afternoon with friends before heading off to the National Theatre, a museum, or crossing Waterloo bridge to live it up in Covent Garden.

I’m a big fan of this place. Although I did forget the name I find the drinks at good prices for the Southbank, thus it is memorable for something! The barmen are pleasant. If you pay by card for drinks under £10 they’ll charge you ten and give you change. They make excellent mojito’s. Trust me!

Firstly I actually had no idea what this place was called even though I have spend many lazy weekends here. Actually, whenever I have non-Londoners visit this is where I take them. Partly because this part of London is a lot cleaner than where I live but also because it’s got some amazing atmosphere about it. Basically it’s just outside seating, inside is a bit stuffy and disappointing but outside they have huge heaters and it’s in a great spot that just seems to catch the sunlight. The booze is reasonably priced for this area, as is the food. It’s a take on pub grub, well cooked and basic menu but filling and enjoyable. Actually it’s a great place just to hang out and chat so really you don’t want to be distracted by the food. It’s kid central here with babies, small children and teens being dragged around London by their families for the weekend. But don’t be put off by this. It actually provide some fantastic people watching opportunities. A really happy place to be! It does get busy and you will most likely have to wait for a table but saying that, it’s worth it if you’re relaxed enough to queue up on a weekend.

Well known to workers in the area, this place serves great, affordable food and comes with plenty of chairs in the sunshine! The staff are very friendly and met our dairy/wheat intolerant needs, and answered innumerable questions about the menu. The steaks are very juicy and the summer pudding with cream was so huge it went unfinished! There’s a decent selection of wines and a great view to people watch. There’s plenty to do in the area as it’s right on the South Bank between the National Theatre and Oxo Tower so it’s easy to swing by for food and/or a drink.

On the second day of my trip to the UK two falls ago I visited the London Eye. Since the line… oh, excuse me… que was long, we decided to grab some eats at a nearby restaurant. Though it had only been two days, I experienced some sub-par meals. The meal I had here at Studio Six was the first decent meal I had in England. I had the Braised Lamb Shank served in its own jus. The great thing about Europe is that they love their alcohol, and this lamb was surely braised in a substantial amount of red wine. No, I’m not complaining at all. The shank was served with some roasted new potatoes(aka young potato) and a medley of bell peppers(see pic). I’m a sucker for lamb shank especially when it’s prepared right. With lamb shank, you just need to bring out and accent the lamb flavor, and above all cook it right. Studio Six did its job with the shank by keeping it simple, and letting the lamb speak for itself. Accompanying the meal was a refreshing Hacker-Pschorr wheat beer that was suggested by the waiter in place of the Magner’s I had requested because they were out. It was a damn good German beer that I’ll have to look up here in the states. I think my buddy had the burger, but I can’t really remember. It was so long ago. But then again, I remember my meal as if it was a few digestive cycles ago. Cheers!

Gabriel’s Warf is a buzzing energetic little alcove on the Southbank. Little shops, restaurants and bars in a long circle shape with the middle filled with carved wood logs creating interesting shaped chairs. Studio Six is the perfect little café/bar/restaurant. I often come here in the summer with a couple of friends and drink copious amounts of wine and order delicious food such as handmade spinach and ricotta ravioli with a coarse tomato chilli and basil sauce rocket and fresh parmesan or homemade salmon fishcakes with mixed leaves and pickled beetroot. The exterior is all seating under a canopy. The seating to the left is for those who wish to drink and eat, where the seating to the right is for those who just wish to drink ad may order later. Inside is a seated restaurant area which is perfect for the winter time. Out the back of the restaurant is an enclosed outdoor section, perfect if you have children and you wish them to feel comfortable running around. Great little spot in the summer! Afterwards you can take a stroll down the Southbank and wander through the endless amount of outdoor activities!

A friend and I were kind of wandering aimlessly when we came across the little street that had studio six. It was really sweet with musicians playing outside. It serves food in quite a rustic atmosphere, but you can also stop by just for drinks. The food was good anyway and well priced. I ate swordfish with med vegatables — delicious! It was quite busy so obviously a favourite for many.
