A highlight for me as I made my way through London. Came in for an early lunch so it didn’t start getting busy until I was about done with my meal. Ordered a beer(there’s a great selection of beer here) and the Slow Hog(Slow Richie’s provides the great burgers here at Jeremy Bentham). The Slow Hog is definitely one of my favorite burger. Came packed with a ton of food and flavor. The texture and flavor of the pulled pork meshed really well the crackling and chili apple sauce. Felt super satisfied after that meal. Would definitely go back.

When you name your pub after the great philosopher of happiness, you set up high expectations. The Jeremy Bentham delivers on those expectations. Good atmosphere, good beer selection, good food from Slow Richie’s. Tonight I paired a Hog(slow roasted pork belly sandwich) with a Black Sheep(Bitter). The Ale was pulled expertly and the sandwich was a delightful combination of slow roasted pork, crackling, and chilli apple sauce. Good value at £10. I think Mr. Bentham would approve.

The beef burger was a bit overcooked, but the hog sandwich was the best burger OFMYLIFE. A toasty bun piled up with pulled pork, crispy pork skin, rockets, and finally, a tangy chili applesauce. The last ingredient was a stroke of genius. Who even thinks of stuff like that?

Nice bar, traditional english style with a good selection of beers. Not exactly a booming pub with music, more a nice pint and chat kinda place

A solid, reliable pub. We often go here after work at UCL and it always has good ciders on tap. There are a few benches outside, which has been great this London summer. Mostly an academic crowd of professors, doctors, and students, making for delightful conversation.(If you’re going before 5, go into UCL’s main hall and check out the actual Jeremy Bentham(that is, his skeleton dressed in his clothes with a wax head) for some inspiration.

We often end up at Jeremy Bentham on a Friday night after work. It’s probably because we work right around the corner. And it’s a nice pub, albeit a bit small. And that’s one of its downfalls as there are always a ton of people here for drinks. While the weather is warmer, it’s fine, but as winter comes along, it’s just going to make it worse. However, they do have a nice selection of beers and usually have some guest ales on draught so you can try some new and interesting ales instead of being stuck to one brand. We also came here for lunch one day. They actually do real food, but only for lunch, and surprisingly, the food was quite tasty. I had a ploughmans, but the cheese was great, and the salad and accompaniments alongside were tasty as well. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food quite a bit, and it’s not ridiculously expensive which is nice.

Small cosy pub with relaxed atmos. Good selection of real ales on draught. Nice quiet place to grab a pint away from the hustle and bustle of Central London.

Great selection of real ales on tap here at this pub around by the hospital. Chilled out vibe. Not a very big pub. Aged drinkers inside

Terrible. Bad management, poor service and rude owners. Definitely avoid.

They have a good selection of ales, some potent scrumpy and the standard selection of lagers on tap. You get the reassuring feeling they will never run out of dry roasted peanuts. Good that.

Nice pub in Bloomsbury: the character — Jeremy Bentham — rather more interesting than his namesake — kept as a stuffed mummy in nearby University College. But do look at this pub book, its fantastic: A PUBCRAWLTHROUGHHISTORY by Mike Pentelow(a local) & Peter Arkell pub by Janus Press The book helps you discover the quirky stories behind a mixture of characters who all share the common distinction– as commoners– of having a pub named after them. From poets, to actors, from sports personalities to comedians, from novelists to singers & war heroes to inventors. By the author of CHARACTERSOFFITZROVIA

Bentham has character, great beers, good specials and the luck of avoiding the rowdiest student crowds(pub crawls permitting). I particularly love their upstairs room. As of my last info(old), it was free to book for a private function. Talk about brownie points there! I regretted the removal of a replica of Bentham’s head from said room, as its creepiness added character, memorability and conversation starters(or an abrupt end thereof).

Lovely pub this — good beer, good staff, pleasant atmosphere. It’s off Gower Street so you get a fair number of students and academics. They usually have 3 or 4 real ales, which always seem to be in good condition. They’re typically £3.00-£3.30 a pint. There’s an upstairs room are tables outside for smokers. I’m not sure if they do food. The gents is very cramped and there’s no hot water, but otherwise OK. There’s no piped music.

The Jeremy Bentham is a pub by the UCL, which presumably prompted the name. It is a traditional pub, and is rather nice. The service is quick and friendly. Despite its central London location it seems to have a regular crowd of aged men, presumably academics. At the same time it does not have the hostility of the typical country local. It is quite small with some tables inside and relatively large outside seating area as well, which is particularly pleasant during the summer. The Jeremy Bentham is a really nice pub and is particularly good for sunny afternoon drinking.

Whats’ Jeremy Bentham doing in the middle of Bloomsbury? I can’t think of a better place thugh for this reformist to keep the traditions of his philosophy in debate. And the place for this is The Jeremy Benthams Bar. Tickle tickle. Cosy and wood furnished; the music is folk-classic-country Tom Jones vogue; intelligent bar staff in genuine smiles. On a Friday there is a spill, including that of ales out into the footpath of the street. Such is its fame and fortune. Radically enough hes still busted in the University College London premises.

The Jeremy Bentham is a great little pub, just off Gower Street in amongst UCL, School of Law and UCH. The area is great — between Euston and Tottenham Court Road — both of which are horrible — but the streets in between are proper old London, with a long history of academia and science. The pub has a good range of bitters plus is not too pricey for the location. The house red is better than the white. One of the best things is that it is rarely frequented by the local students, and the older crowd of lecturers, local workers and builders proves an interesting mix and serves for some good eavesdropping. If you want to visit the real Jeremy Bentham, his preserved corpse still sits in a glass case in nearby UCL(seriously!).

Many a happy hour was spent in here drinking away any memory of what I might have learned in college that day. But the pub itself is just another mediocrity we only came here because it was close to UCL. It’s got nothing special going for it; they have a couple of standard ales, but why are they charging so much for them? It used to be one of the principal hangouts of the philosophy graduate community, until one of us(not me!) was banned for the foreseeable future. No one really knows whether it was justified or not. Oh well.
