Great Chinese buffet. Great location, right across from the Liverpool train station. They kept rolling out carts with freshly cooked food while we were eating. I really liked the thin noodle dish. And yes, the food has MSG especially on the fried chicken and fried pork ribs.

Eat there yesterday on quick visit to Liverpool. Very good for the price. Large selection of dishes. I’ve had worse buffets. Bit miffed at being asked to pay bill before I’d even sat down. I’m a pensioner I’m not going to do a runner.

With a 10% discount for students, purely functional seating and basic décor, you know the deal as soon as you walk in. The food isn’t the most amazing Chinese food you’ll ever have but it’s perfectly tasty and does the job, especially when it comes to lining your stomach before a skinful. Hey, this isn’t me being unclassy. I’m just telling it like it is! No frills, no luxury, it’s a restaurant with a buffet and people come for the buffet, all you can eat with plenty of options, always hot and constantly being refilled. I’ve had some good and bad buffet experiences in my time but this was one of the better ones, and its central location means it’s very handy if you’re ravenous after a day’s shopping for example. It’s definitely a popular meeting place before hitting the social scene in Liverpool town and it’s a great place to chat over some shared buffet goodies. And an extra bonus, the cakes, puddings, fritters, fruits and ice cream are really nice here! Basic as you can get but all the better for it. Maybe not so spot on for a date or anything intimate, but for groups it’s a doozy.

May Sum is an Oriental feast, a place where chinese, thai and japanese are all served under one roof. The best time to visit May Sum is a sunday afternoon as an eastern alternative to a sunday dinner when an all you can eat buffet is priced at £6.95. There are discounts for OAP and student customers although this does not stretch to the drinks. As with any large establishment serving warmed buffet fare not all the food is of a particularly high standard but for the price there can hardly be cause for concern. One particular preference of mine is the mouthwatering aromatic crispy duck which never fails to impress although the Japanese sushi looks somewhat less appetising. May Sum is a simple no frills buffet which is worth a visit if you feel like a good feed, however it is not a place for a romantic date or classy dinner if this is what your after then somewhere more upmarket is required.

Hmmm, well I have two pieces of advice for anyone considering visiting this all you can eat buffet restaurant: 1) Don’t be fooled by the website 2) Go somewhere else. This might seem a little harsh considering the general standard of all you can eat chinese restaurants, but this has to be one of the worst I have ever been to. The restaurant seems unclean and really glum… the food isn’t good, and there are many other buffets around the city centre, such as the new Masala Wok. Now for the pros — the staff are really friendly, and don’t glare at you if you dare go up for seconds, also the prices are ridiculously cheap before 5.30pm at around £6 to eat in, or £4 to take away.

May Sum is a self-service buffet restaurant situated opposite Lime Street Station adjacent to the city’s historic St. Georges Hall and St. John’s Shopping Centre. It’s open seven days a week from 11:30am to 11pm. Customers can enjoy the vast range of oriental dishes and for one set price, you can ‘eat as much as you like’. Chefs produce fresh food all day long and because of the central location and sheer volume of customers, the food turnaround at May Sum is very quick, meaning nothing sits around for too long. My personal experience at this restaurant was that the food was average, a bit on the salty side and contained too much monosodium glutamate, therefore every bite of a chicken wing or spare rib made me thirsty and wanting more drink.

I’ve been here on several occasions with my wife and kids. It is very much a basic(no luxury) style restaurant with a buffet. It also has a bar. I can only say from experience that the food was second to none and was always being refilled. Also had some lovely desert cakes and fruit. I will certainly be going back again. It is also ideal if you have been walking around Liverpool City Centre and it is very central.

as with other maysums that i have attended, pretty basic, the chairs are not ment for comfort, its basically feed you and get out, there fore a higher turn over, very central so a popular meeting place, if it was my choice would meet at weatherspoons across the road, or tsos, which is around the corner where the atmosphere is more welcoming and is also a buffet style restaurant xmx
