Just when you think things can’t any better you arrive at Egg Café and have the Vegan Full Breakfast. This is the best full breakfast I’ve had so far in the UK.
The staff are always friendly and helpful and are always trying new things.
The food is always consistent. Fresh and delicious. The Vegan Burger is the absolute bomb!
We are satisfied and full. Ready to take on the day.
Oh and did I mention the Staff are wonderful and helpful. Even when they are busy they have time for the customer. The customer service is amazing.

This place is great! I was so happy to find a vegan restaurant/​café in Liverpool. I actually thought I was back in California when I was there (you know… Aside from the cold and rain). So many delicious options for great prices. Definitely have the full breakfast here by the way. Delish!

As a pay day treat, I decided to get more acquainted with the specialist vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Liverpool whist I was giving up meat for Lent and paid a visit to a bohemian and eccentric café called The Egg which can be found just off of Bold Street and up several sets of red staircases. My first impression of the café was that it felt like a really cool and hipster school dining hall with the food several on red trays, long tables and a cutlery station. The staff were very welcoming though I did feel slightly on edge having to read the menu at the counter and make a snap decision order. The menu was sadly extremely limited. I am a person who makes an effort to order a dish when I dine out that I do not have the skill to make or, at the very least, I do not have in my kitchen cupboards. The only item on the menu, in amongst all the cheese on toast, egg on toast and well… toast…, was the spiced veggie burger. For a mere five pounds I was presented with a feast which I left guiltily as it looked almost untouched. There was just so much food and it was actually really really yummy! The Egg is bursting with character, with lovely staff and with great value for money vegetarian and vegan food. I would probably go again for an afternoon snack or for tea and cake on a gorgeous summer day with the ladies but probably not for a meal again.

This place is one of the few ones when you can invite friends who get a bit obnoxious when it comes to food. Even meat lovers like myself can enjoy unique flavours.

What a great little spot in the city! Arrived just shortly after they opened at 9 on a Thursday. The food was a little alow coming but that’s somewhat expected from a small vegetarian/​vegan place like this. My wife and I had vegetarian breakfasts with tea (incl in the price) and paid about £9.50. The worker who helped was a wonderful human being. He spoke to us about our homeland, made some jokes, and even gave us a free piece of delicous cookie crumble.
Decent selection of teas on hand and a nice array of unique foods. The breakfasts were great, especially the sausage – so good! When my plate was empty, I was full, but nowhere near finished eating.
I look forward to returning. This is a good place for solo and group trips, both brief visits and long-​term study sessions. Local art is displayed and sold at the café and the décor is charming. The stairs may be difficult for some to manage, so take precaution.

Avec une amie vegan nous avons dejeune au Egg Café et ce fut fort sympathique ! Le cadre est tres agreable et les plats bons et varies. Tout ou presque est declinable pour les vegan meme si a ce sujet je trouve le nom du restaurant pas forcement adapte. Il faut faire la queue et payer au comptoir puis on vous donne un ticket avec un numero et on vous apporte votre assiette. Mon amie a commande une soupe aux courgettes avec du garlic bread, d’apres elle la soupe etait bonne, le pain un peu moins. Pour ma part je né suis pas fan des courgettes, j’ai donc ete un peu decue d’en trouver dans ma quiche aux brocolis mais j’ai pu les retirer sans probleme et on né sentait pas trop le gout. Nous avons egalement pris un capuccino au lait de soja qui etait tres bon ainsi qu’une part de crumble au chocolat, tres bon egalement.

I adore the Egg Café which is a few flights up in a old, creaky building — individual, bohemian and refreshing. It’s so difficult to get vegetarian restaurants and this place is delightful. I’ve eaten here numerous times over the years whilst visiting friends in Liverpool and really wish Belfast had somewhere like this. Tasty, delicious, home made food and it’s BYOB. At night candles transform the fresh daytime café feel into a very relaxed atmospheric restaurant. I’ve had breakfasts, lunches and dinners here. In fact I might just plan a visit to Liverpool asap just to eat at this great spot again! Plus it’s also a fantastic art gallery to boot!

The Egg is bohemian with a capital B. Its clientèle is largely made up of local creatives, yummy mummies, and students on their lunch breaks. The shabby, hand-​painted décor is very welcoming, and the local artworks exhibited on the walls are a nice touch, and provide talking points as well as visual stimulation. The atmosphere is incredibly laid-​back, and it’s the kind of place where you can happily stay for hours, without really noticing the time passing. This is helped in no small part by the selection of quality music, covering everything from classic jazz to ambient electronica, coming through the PA at just the right volume.
The Egg serve simple, wholesome vegetarian cuisine, usually accompanied by a satisfying salad of fresh veg, quinoa, and cold pasta. I’ve never had a dish that I was disappointed with, although to be honest I very rarely stray away from my favourite dish of theirs — cheese on toast. The Egg manage to make usually uninspiring dish extremely fulfilling, simply through the quality of their ingredients. The wholemeal bread is fresh, the cheese is of a high quality, and the fresh side salad acts as a perfect counterbalance.
I’ve been frequenting this café for over ten years now, and I can’t see that stopping any time soon. On the downside, the pricing is not what it was. In fact, the cost of their staple dish (my beloved cheese on toast) has almost doubled since I first started going. This is obviously above and beyond inflation, and I’d like to know what the reason is, if not naked profiteering — I’m not against people making a buck, just as long as they’re honest about it. Still, I’m obviously still happy to pay it, so it must be worth it.
The food is better than any similarly-​priced café else in the vicinity, and its super-​relaxed atmosphere means that it remains the best place in the city centre to fritter away an afternoon, chatting with a friend over endless cups of tea and watching the world go by.

Yes. I remember coming here years ago. I remember asking for a glass of coke and the cheeky bitch proceeded to pour me a glass from the last of the dregs from an old bottle of tesco coke. It was flat.
I ordered her to At least pour me a fresh coke from an unopened bottle.
And then come gay guy tried it on with me.

Depending on where and who you are, «vegetarian» is either: 1) a lack — of meat — or 2) an opportunity — to think creatively about how to make food healthy, tasty and appealing in unconventional ways. I’m usually in the second camp; the Egg Café falls squarely in the first.
My «spicy» burger looked and sounded wonderful; it ended up being almost insufferably tasteless and dry, with only a below-​average chutney to help it go down. The sides — couscous and pasta salads — were equally bland. My partner’s full veggie breakfast was a slight improvement because the veggie sausages were tasty; the rest — white toast, beans from a can, fried eggs, tomato and mushroom — was subpar. A little effort here would have gone a long way.
The servers, for their part, were friendly but hardly efficient; one of our dishes arrived about 15 minutes before the other (and was not, as we’ve seen, worth the wait).
The Egg Café’s colorful, comfortable ambiance, however — up two flights of crooked, curving orange stairs, in an attic room with purple rafters, plenty of plants, and a superb view out the third-​floor windows — rescued our experience from complete disappointment. Had even some of this care and creativity gone into the menu, the Egg Café would have been an out-​and-​out winner for us.
In sum, *don’t* expect to impress your date with the food; but *do* bring along a craft beer or bottle of wine, pay the modest corkage fee, and share an appetizer while you sink in the atmosphere.

This place wasn’t the easiest to find (small door and up some windy stairs) but when we did it was worth it. The food was really nice with lots of vegan choices. The décor is shabby chic, but we went in the evening and when they lit the candles it did create a nice ambience and the shabbiness worked. As I say, food was lovely and for the price we paid (I think it was just over a tenner for three courses) was great. If you are veggie or vegan then Egg is a must.

The Egg is a quirky vegetarian café located just off of Bold Street. When you get in, the décor is unique, interesting and eclectic. Everywhere is purple and there is artwork by locals all over the walls.
So far, so good.
The food itself is nice, healthy and filling… just nothing spectacular. It’s tasty enough, but none of it is particularly inspired, different, unique. There are some burgers, a salad, soup, etc. The menu rarely changes, also.
The drinks are of the same vein — can of coke here, a tea bag there. Hot chocolate powder? Got you covered.
To me, The Egg is a fun place to hang out first and foremost. The atmosphere is always fun and relaxed. The food is secondary, which is why I give it three stars.

We had one of our favorite dining experiences of a month long trip here. It’s up 2 flights of stairs, and worth it completely. I had wonderful veggie soup, and yummy bread. The purple colors all over the place add a lot to the charm. It feels so much like it would be in Portland, Oregon. .. very hippie, funky, homey! There is a nice view out the windows as well. The value is supreme. And the tea was quite delightful. m-​m-​m-​m-​m-​m good!

Visiting Liverpool for a couple of days with my girlfriend, we turned to Unilocal to help us find somewhere to go for lunch and found The Egg Café.
As other reviewers have said, until you actually open the door at the top of the stairs you might not be sure that you have the right place, but inside is a welcoming and friendly eatery.
Neither myself nor my girlfriend are veggie, but we like vegetarian food and The Egg Café certainly didn’t disappoint. Also the tea and cakes are fantastic.
If you are feeling hungry you might want to check any meal deals they have one — the prices make the food tremendously good value even without any offers, but it lets you sample a bit more of the menu.

I visited Liverpool on a uni trip a few weeks ago and my tutor recommended this place as there are a few vegetarians on the course. We happily agreed, especially as it’s nice not to traipse around a city you don’t know very well looking for somewhere to eat.
There was a little purple door on the street and from the outside it looked very cool and welcoming. We ascended the many stairs and for a moment wondered if we were going the right way when eventually we got to the top of the building, opened a little door, and there it was! A wonderful, bustling little café nestled in the rooftop of the building!
I love little places like this that you discover through recommendation. Egg is kind of a canteen style: you queue and place your order and they either prepare your order there and then if it’s quick or they give you an order number and then bring your food over to you. You can see all the fresh salad ingredients in the display fridge and it looks wonderful and colourful and very appealing.
I ordered some veggie dhal which was delicious and the portions are very generous for the price; it’s really good wholesome food with a great side salad. A few others also got this and my meat-​eating friend who was a bit unsure of the place ordered the veggie lasagne and was pleasantly surprised; he really enjoyed it! I had a soy hot chocolate which was great and a couple of my friends had fruit smoothies and the amount you got for the price was amazing! And so yummy.
The layout of the café is great, it’s mainly long tables (think Wagamamas) which is great for groups, but is also nice for smaller groups and encourages interactions with other customers which is really nice and adds to the friendly and relaxed atmosphere of the place.
Liverpool is a big city with many restaurants, though when I return I will absolutely come back here! I would love to take my boyfriend; I also here it’s BYOB which is even better! I can’t wait to return, it’s one of the best vegetarian restaurants I have ever been to.

The Egg Café was founded in 1984 by Janine Pinion. It was formerly known as the Acorn Gallery and then The Garden, before becoming the Egg Café. It is located just off Bold Street and occupies a large and airy loft space in an old Victorian Building. From the windows you get an excellent view across the rooftops of the city, giving you a whole new perspective on the city centre. As well as being a vegetarian café The Egg is also an independent gallery called Eggspace
The atmosphere at the Egg café is relaxed and welcoming. There is a range of seating available from comfy sofa’s to small tables and long rows of tables suitable for larger groups. If you are planning to come in a large group it is advisable to reserve a table in advance as the Egg can get pretty busy.
The food at the Egg is vegetarian only, but even as a dedicated carnivore I have always enjoyed the food I have had here. I strongly recommend the cheesy garlic bread, it’s just amazing. The cakes are delicious, in particular the carrot cake. The food is inexpensive but the portions are very generous.
If you are coming for a meal then the Egg offers a corkage service where if you bring your own wine you pay £1 per bottle, which can work out really well compared to usual restaurant prices for wine.
The Egg is a great place for a simple pot of tea, or for a meal and a get together with friends. The staff are so welcoming that you’re almost sad to leave.

Egg is exactly the kind of café Antony Bourdain has nightmares about.
The beams and stairs are painted bright purple, there’s bad abstract art on the walls and they play jazz and folk rather than The Ramones and The Stooges. The thing he’d hate most however, is the fact it’s a healthy café devoted to veggie and vegan food. The burgers are made of beans and pulses, the sausages are made of quorn and the fried and scrambled eggs are served with tomatoes and mushrooms instead of crispy bacon and black pudding.
I’d love to argue that the food is so imaginative and delicious carnivores will forget there’s no meat on their plates. The truth is however, that it tastes more wholesome, nutritious and filling than amazing.

How do you like your eggs in the morning sir? Scrambled please! I’m here to report however that this place might not be everyone’s cup of tea. First of all, not a big an of purple I’m afraid. On the other side of the coin again, vegetarian is the café people. If we were meant to be eating only vegetables we would have been born in the form of herbivore mamals. The prospect of going to a vegetarian café is thus not that appealing to me. It is however more appealing than going to a vegetarian restaurant.
Having said all of this vegetarian cafes are an absolute delight. The lack of meat here is compensated by the delightful array of foodie offerings. The atmosphere here is the real draw though. It just carries a certain ambiance, a friendliness a homeliness which is priceless.

I never knew such a quaint place like this existed in Liverpool until I came across reviews from other Unilocalers. Today, I decided to try The Egg Café to see for myself and it was certainly not a disappointment.
The Egg Café may not be the most noticeable, obvious or attractive of cafés from the outside, but as I trawled up their purple stairwell to the top floor, I was silently amazed to see how pleasant an environment there was. The atmosphere was peaceful with plenty of fresh air entering the balcony, where you can enjoy the view overlooking Newington.
Being a carnivorous person, I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy the full vegetarian breakfast I ordered. However, I did not miss the fact that there was no meat in my meal as it still tasted yummy. The Quorn sausages were questionable but the double egg, beans, fried mushrooms and tomatoes went down well. Plus, there were generous slices of granary toast which was the thickest toast I’d ever had! With a pot of tea included all under a fiver, I would definitely go back again and who knows, I may be converted into a veggie!

The Egg is definitely a ‘what you see is what you get’ place. If you make it all the way up there, that is. And that’s if you even manage to find it. On a road running between Renshaw and Bold Street, you can’t miss the brightly painted doorway, but if you weren’t looking for it you may just walk past.
So, you’ve found The Egg. You drag yourself up the flights of rickety stairs (I’m surprised someone hasn’t has an accident there) and tried to open the one locked door before pushing your way through the single unlocked door. This is not a welcome feature for persons of the larger persuasion. Then you are greated by scrubbed wooden tables and chairs, loud artwork and nice smells. You go to order at the counter, and the menu is on a blackboard on the wall.
All the food is delicious and so good you want to sit there all day. I can recommend the pancakes, whatever the daily soup is with chunky cheese on toast or garlic bread, and some Moroccan dish they do with lots of mushrooms in. However, whatever you try you will probably be happy with the result. If you’re on water, you can help yourself from the bar, hot drinks are served in big mugs and cutlery and sauces are from the counter next to the til.
That’s about it. Simplicity itself. It looks like a great place to live because it has a sort of rural charm, and you get good views of the city. Prices are a refelction on the venue: cheap and cheerful!
